That looks great, you can tell even through the camera how bright and thorough the illumination is. I really miss seeing parking lots lit with these lights.
Wow! I haven't seen those for years! We had a bunch we pulled out of an old hospital parking lot years ago. I guess they are good for growing weed indoors or something, so we sold them off for a bit of profit instead of scrapping them.
I was in College to get my degree as a Renewable Energy Specialist, the class was asked to provide a plan using what we learned. I chose to do a study on the cost of replacing every high pressure sodium and halogen light and the routine maintenance of replacing the bulbs in adverse weather. with LED systems high lighting the savings and costs of doing this. a year after Graduation The school started replacing the lights. Neighbors are happy that the lights are problem at night because of the way they are designed to project down not out. in total 110 light poles replaced and after 8 to 10 years they will pay for themselves. that was 8 years ago and the Maintenance crew at the college hasn't had to change 1 bulb since. The LED lights they used had a 25 year warranty. a big win for all
While I find this interesting, I have to respectfully disagree with your standpoint on LED lighting for these reasons: 1. HPS lights are an extremely efficient type of light. Yes, LEDs use less energy, but what most people fail to touch on is the fact that LEDs are only SLIGHTLY more efficient the HPS. The difference is not as much as most people make it out to be. 2. HPS lights have a refraction lens that covers the bulb. This ensures that the light will only shine in a sort of "strip" pattern, in order to only illuminate the road. LED fixtures have no refraction lens covering the diodes, which results in light getting blasted all over the ground, not just the road. It also creates a "spotlight" effect on the road, which in turn, creates dark spots. 3. Maybe the LED fixtures your school used are different than the ones around here I have seen. Most, if not all the original LED fixtures they installed around 7 years ago, have been replaced due to some sort of failure. These failures are due to cheap manufacturing. I find this ridicules, because the old HPS lights where in use since the 80s, and 90s, and did not fail near as often. This is just my standpoint on the topic, and I hope you found it interesting, as I did yours.
Sodium lamps are energy efficient and bright and their lifespan is very long, but they have a CATASTROPHIC colour rendering and they are emitting a kind of light which is much worse regarding to light pollution problem than other light sources e.g. LEDs or Metal-halide HID lamps. These are the reasons HPS lamps are getting be replaced everywhere. But in Europe especially in Eastern Europe e.g. Hungary HPS lamps are still very common.
Yes. In my opinion, when driving, it is important to have a good quality light, evenly spread out on the road, so that you can actually see properly. LEDs blast light on a small section of the road and have no refraction lens to stop the glare. Just another money-making craze the world is undergoing. Nothing can ever replace the natural, calming glow of HPS streetlights.
You might like them because of their "pleasant" warm light (I personally doubt though it is pleasant) but this kinda orange light is not really for human eyes. Blueish white lights are ideally perceived by human eye which means you can see much better in cold light than in warm light. (And see my other comment above.)
@@peles73really, you are saying that amber and red light is not pleasant for the eyes at night?!?! Wow! You have no clue. Do some research, please? Harsh, bright white and blue, huh? Alright!
I am not sure what about the video leads you into thinking I spend my whole life constantly complaining about SOMETHING. This video exists to showcase a rather uncommon sight, nowadays of high-quality lighting. All that was stated in the video was commentary on the fixtures. Commentary and complaining are 2 completely different things. This channel exists, to create a community for those with similar interests, to enjoy those interests. The comments box exists on this channel, so that those individuals can communicate with each other, by either, sharing information, memories, or anything directly relating to the video, in a positive manor. Horrible lighting. Color rendering is absolute poo. If you poured a cup of blood under one, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was blood or water or Coca Cola. LED offer a huge advantage in both color rendering and efficacy. HPS is dead. Signed, The Lighting Geek.
Well, HPS is not dead in my backyard. LEDs have a horrible, harsh, quality light, and compared to HPS, LEDs are only slightly more efficient. If that's the way people want to live, it's not my problem.
That looks great, you can tell even through the camera how bright and thorough the illumination is. I really miss seeing parking lots lit with these lights.
Yes,, unfortunately this is one of the few remaining parking lots with these lights. Hopefully,, they will remain for some time still.

LEDs are better for pot too.
The filament inside is a really good knife sharpener!
Your Check Engine light is on.
Yes, I know. A sensor went bad.

Where is this that there’s snow and freezing temps at the end of May? 🥶
The video was originally taped on 1/18/2024.
The 60 Hz flicker of high pressure sodium lighting gives fluffy winter snow a dotted track appearance sometimes in real life. I miss it.
This was a picture-perfect night to record these fixtures!
So. Where's something about the efficiency?
I don't know.

This is interesting. Thank you for sharing!
They emit a very nice, natural yellowish light, unlike the cold and unpleasant bright LED-spotlights.

@@fanman1184 Well said!
In addition HPS and MH are superior for cannabis cultivation

I can tell that light has got some high pressure sodium, take a look 👀 on the ground, all that salt and sodium 🧂!
Seriously... I don't know why, but I find that slightly comical...

Well, if you're a person that has to spend your whole life constantly complaining about SOMETHING, I guess light fixtures are fair game. SMFH.
