It is an offence. The offence of criminal damage can occur even without any damage if the threat is made. Aggravated criminal damage is also possible since a gun is mentioned. And the mention of the gun as a threat also breaches gun laws. And the highway act as it's an offence to use a gun within 50 feet of a highway.
I think you should have called the police as soon as he threatened to use his gun, the threat of a gun is far more serious than the threat of a 249g drone and a camera!

Section 240 of the Air Navigation Order 2016 makes drones aircraft and threatening to shoot down an aircraft is a crime, even if you 'were joking'. Try going to an airport and joking that you're going to shoot down an aircraft and see how funny they think it is.

I got one with a catapult. I upset a bad driver, so he started to wind me up, walking past the house and staring in. The drone was up 4 times in two days over my head. I left the pieces on the pavement. Not seen him since.

You under estimate a modern air rifle, 10mm kill zone in field target at 55 yards so a drone is an easy shot compared to that.
