Woodlawn COGIC - 1948. I learned to play Gospel music sitting on the outside and listening to this lady and watching Sister Patterson on the piano. We lived close to the church. I am now ending 70 years in church music. Elder Patterson - who became Bishop- delivered our coal in the winter and ice in the winter. He also buried our loved ones. The funeral home was on Chelsea. Before moving to Woodlawn Street, we lived on Georgia Avenue, and I saw Dad Mason almost every day. Blessed to have been one of those who played at his viewing in 1961.
It been six months Madame,& still love this song. Jesus is Worthy🎹📻. I grew up listening to this Sister sing & praise. This was in,89. Bishop Sr. Patterson was preaching. ENJOY, ENJOY. Precious Memory! Doris is directing..Sis.Hill,Sis. Johnson ,Marlow,& OTHERS. Tear of joy😥😂😥🏛🎹📻
This song was written by a very famous Memphis Minister, the late Rev. William Herbert Brewster. I am blessed to be one of the musicians at the Church where he wrote so many songs, East Trigg Avenue M. B. Church. I have the pleasure of working with his great great and his great great great grandaughters. Unfortunately, Rev. Brewster did not receive credit for many songs he wrote that helped to make singers like Mahalia Jackson famous. For example: he wrote "How I got over" and "Move on up a Little Higher. The Pattersonaires recorded a similar version of the above song. Rev. Brewster also wrote Old Land Mark, You'll never be left to walk alone, Payday someday, Move upstairs and Surely God is able, just to name a few.
Cheryl Honey Memories of Dr. Brewster, Queen C Anderson and Juanita. we remember the days when we saved the front left side of the church for the whites who came to the church just before the broadcast! Now in my 80th year, I remember when Elvis came. I think I have played all of the Brewster, Campbell and Ward compositions. God bless! Clara performing them will never be forgotten by me. (church musician since the 40's)
Lord mercy I know these folks. This my P. T. praise to God. Excellent memory. Thank u Br. Harris & Cartier. . This is so great.Ít look At us in pass. They Big Happy Family..I. use Sing With. Saint. Malowe, Betty. Mattie,Toosie, Johnson, .And other. Amen
Yes, and the same lady - which you probably already know - Sister Patterson, COGIC founder, Dad Mason's daughter, was on the piano. Her husband, Bishop J O Patterson , pastor. FROM WOODLAWN STREET In the 40's; Danny Thomas and around the corner to the present location. Blessings!

Notice at 6:41 it says that Madame Wigley’s performance with the choir was recorded in 1988. In the following year Bishop Patterson would have been hospitalized already ...
If this was taped on Christmas ‘89, How was it possible for Bishop Patterson Sr to preach? Footage taped in the year’s Memphis convocation portrayed a very frail Bishop Patterson. furthermore, a rumor states that Bishop was taken ill during the convocation ..... Did he really preach his last sermon just 4 days before he went from labor to rest ( He passed away on the 29th)?
Worthy God knows who got the Voice Sis. Mattie Wigley. All way share her",Love you always and forever➕. My friend, mom,Granmy. She got grand-baby That got same Gifts. She was a Missonary, M. C.to. Rest in Peace...😂😇🤣😱😍😘😘😘😘😘😍🙆🙅🙍🙌🙋👵👨👨👧👧👥🤦🤷💁🤦🤷🤴
