Only until 2013 then it takes a torx 50 and the steering wheel comes off without puller. Inflator module has shorting bars inside all yellow connectors, eliminating any voltage to deploy the air bag. I never disconnected the battery but would pull fuse. No big whoop! DK, ASE Master since 78, retired.
Very informative video. Thank you. I came to the part where you use the j hooks to pull the wheel and I learned that the j hooks I have is too big and doesn't fit the holes there. Now I gotta find smaller ones, lol.
Rich, good video! One suggestion : do a video with the removal and installation of the airbag clock spring. Also with the procedure to center the clock spring. Lots of people buy clock springs from the junkyard because they are very expensive new and the person that takes them out messes the alignment. The clock spring itself has alignment arrows on it and can be installed only a certain way,but what it's unknown is if you're 180 degrees off,360 or whatever. The clock spring can only be turned 2 and a half to 3 and a half turns, depending on the clock spring, from dead center in either direction. If you install it 360 degrees off,it will eventually break, your airbag light will come on and your horn will stop working.
Thank you helped me swap my airbag out on my Malibu
Very Helpful! I had hit a roadblock trying to get mine off. The missing part was the OEM 27182 puller that you used. Thanks!

Thanks .
Smashing job, you made that look easy as allways :-)
Dam handy tool there, worth every penny :D
Take the airbag fuse out and unplug the airbag power cable (bright yellow in dashboard endcap) first as well.
Sam Yaza can’t you just pull out just the fuse for the airbag and be fine or is it still too risky to not disconnect the battery?
I would ask a question, but it doesn't look like you have replied to one person yet.
What size socket was used for the main nut ??
Can someone tell me what the button on the left side of the steering wheel means I have this vehicle and I’m trying to figure out what it’s for
