CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A condescending customer makes trouble for Brad (Judge Reinhold).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Amy Heckerling's adaptation of Cameron Crowe's Fast Times at Ridgemont High is often considered one of the finest films of a disreputable genre (the teen sex comedy), and kick-started the careers of many future stars. The center of this ensemble film is Jennifer Jason Leigh as Stacy Hamilton. She is a young, innocent high-school student who, as the film opens, is asking for advice from her friend, the sexually outspoken Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates). Stacy takes a liking to nebbish Mark Ratner (Brian Backer), but he is too afraid to make a move even after Stacy all but throws herself at him. She eventually hooks up with Mark's more confident best friend, Mike Damone (Robert Romanus). When not concerning itself with these four characters, the film spends time with stoned surfer dude Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) and his ongoing feud with history teacher Mr. Hand (Ray Walston). The film includes brief appearances by such future stars as Nicolas Cage, Eric Stoltz, and Forest Whitaker.

I got fired from McDonald's in 1984 for being rude to a customer. Best thing that ever happened to me.
I quit Kroger back in 2006. Best move I ever made in my life.
Did you threaten this customer or use profanity in anyway?
You’re fired 😮😅
Both!
Please Don’t Do That
Some old dude got me fired by launching a complaint with the city 🙄
Anyone who's ever worked retail knows: the customer is NOT always right! Right on, Brad!
Yeah, right on!
The irony of him being on the "employee of the month" poster in the background.
i know right, and he seemed unsure of himself and caught offguard easily.
Exactly.
Yeah!
Man I never even noticed. Nice eye.
He should never been fired
Every retail job every American has ever held in the last 30 years. Period.
Exactly. I want to work at Hot Topic and I don't want to act like Brad lol
Wow... both of these comments
@johanna dam
😣 Working in retail is the next thing to hell. All those idiots out there !
Yes but as you gain experience you get used to it, the only people that really pissed me off when I used to work in retail are those who just ask for something that the store doesnt sell and then I tell them it isnt sold there and they dont believe me and start attacking me but even that can be dealt with properly. The reason why employees cant defend themselves is because they dont have the autority and it makes the company look bad when they do it anyways, but managers can defend themselves. And normally when you are dealt with what seems to be an impossible situation, you must always ask for the manager instead of dealing with the customer yourself, then if the person insults the manager, they will get kicked out of the store. The employee's job is only to follow orders and deal with what they can in a professional manner. The great thing about this is that you can dump all the responsability of dealing with bad customers onto the manager. If I had been in Brad's position, I would have asked someone else if the customer was right about getting his money back before assuming he was wrong.
@@reverseflash6400, I had a lady customer who wanted a steak and egg bagel. I told her that we didn't sell them at the McDonald's I worked at. She proceeds to tell me, "Well, they have them at the Springfield (MO) restaurant."
I replied, "You have two choices, ma'am. 1) you can drive back to Springfield and get one or 2) drive across the street to Walmart and buy all the eggs, steak, and bagels you want."
"Look sir, Brad was definitely wrong and I'll deal with him in a second but you're not off the hook either. If you ever use any verbal abuse against any of my employees again you will not be welcomed into my store again. Do I make myself clear?"
What a good manager would do !!
@stavomatias3047 , exactly! This manager just takes the customers' word, and throws it back in Brads' face. Never hears his side of the story.
Said no fast food manager, ever
the customer is not always right ...
Especially when using verbal abuse.
I always had a counter to that saying. How can the customer is always right? No the customer is an idiot that's why we lie to them and get away with it lol
Most of the time, the customer is wrong.
It's not meant to be taken literally. Obviously, they won't always be right. It's more of a guide then a rule. You treat them as though they are right, and work toward solving the problem. Meaning, you don't go, "BUT YOU SAID THIS, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS" Instead you say, "I understand, let's fix this".
Whoever came up with that phrase, I hope he's burning in hell.
Brad should've punched that guy in the face right after getting fired.
He should've punched the manager too
Lol or Arnold
Would have put the 1-2 punch on both idiots👊
He would of gotten arrested for assault. It would of been harder for him to get a job later too. For finding that on his record.
@@thespaceram2879 Brad was a minor, so I dont think much wouldve happened to him. Probation, expunged off record by 21.
Brad Hamilton went from being an army vet, to working at a burger joint, to being a police detective. Really impressive resume 👍🏼
Arnold would also join the police academy a couple years later
And Judge Reinhold is a great actor by the way playing those parts.
He also became a psychologist who didn't believe in Santa Claus. But finds out the chick he's bagging is the ex wife of Santa
Brad also kidnapped Bette Midler with his wife and became good friends with her to take down Danny Devito
Worked in a bank also"Gremlins"
Purely technically, the sign reads, "100% guaranteed breakfast" -- i.e the product offered is guaranteed to classify as breakfast. The sign carries no mention of customers' satisfaction, much less a warranty of same.
You have a great future as a lawyer! LOL!
100% guaranteed pedantry -- bah dah dah dah dah -- I'm lovin it!
You’re only guaranteed to get food classified as “breakfast”. Satisfaction is not advertised. Sorry Kim Kardashian.
Exactly. The customer was griping about the meaning of a guarantee, but there were no conditions.
I always felt bad for Brad because the customer was such a jerk!!
I agree. Brad should have gotten the manager, Dennis, to deal with the dude instead. Let it be Dennis' problem, not his. But Brad said what we all want to at work though, lol.
Still brad shouldn't have threatened the customer with violence or used profanity.
So you were born the day in 1994 when Simpson killed 2 people.
I don't think the customer was a jerk. He wanted his money back and was getting the run around. If Brad had gotten Dennis, no problem.
Thank you.
Years ago something almost exactly like this happened to me at a McDonald's
in Southern California. Some asshole stepped right in front of me in line
with an empty (meaning he ate ALL of it) Styrofoam food container and demanded that the service worker behind the counter refund all his money back immediately. The guy behind the counter politely tried to explain that the customer had to wait until the manager came over to explain the problem to him. Immediately the customer started cussing the poor guy out and told him that if he didn't get his money NOW he was gonna punch his lights out. The service worker
told the jerk that if he laid one finger on him he was gonna kick his ass. So the jerk began screaming at the top of his lungs-which of course brought the manager running. He then began a BS story almost word for word like what is shown here. I couldn't believe it when the stupid manager actually started to fire the worker right then and there! Well hell, I'll be damned if I'm gonna stand there and let that happen to the poor guy! I told the manager that the customer was a goddamn liar and that if the manager fired the service worker then it was ME who was gonna be calling the corporate office to complain, at which point two customers behind me (who had been too shy to get involved) spoke up and backed me. Not only did that jerk NOT get his damn money back, but he ended up getting BANNED from that McDonald's! :)
Hell yeah! That's awesome. Too many people in retail and fast food jobs get treated like garbage by customers. That's cool you stuck up for them.
Good on you, Shirley! Well done!
***** That is awesome girl! That customer sounded like a first class jerk for trying to pull a stunt like that. It's one thing to be not satisfied with your lunch, but to threaten the worker and make up some bogus ass lie about it..that's another. Good on you for sticking up for him and thankfully you'll never have to see that jackass again.
Clark Drew
:)
Some people think that they're entitled to royal treatment, and if they don't get it they act like that. I know because I work at a place that takes pride in good customer service, but on some occasions I've delt with assholes who either talk to me like I'm 3, or just be straight up rude. It's a sad sad world
I love that quote I always think of by Judge Reinhold...
"Mister, if you don't shut up, I'm gonna kick 100% of your ass!" 1:26
O-Dog Kubrick Is he really a judge??
@@m42037 No, that's his first name. Kevin Smith actually made a joke out of it by turning him into an actual judge on his short-lived cartoon spin-off of Clerks back in 2000 though.
hellsunicorn I wish Eddie would finally make BHC 4. He said he was a couple years ago and didn't want it to be a flop like BHC 3 was...
That was hilarious and he should have afterwards
It's hard to believe he ever was an employer of the month.
Being "employee of the month" means nothing to management. You are disposable.
Exactly
This scene is so accurate when it comes to customer service. The difficult customers will flat-out lie and play innocent if you have the guts to stand up to them in some manner. Happens all the time.
The thing that kills me, though, is that they will lie to you and if you fall for it, hey, they got over on you. But if you call them out on their bullshit, it becomes "the customer is always right" instantly.
@@NeuralNetProcessorI wonder what managers do if I just walk away from customers like that.

1:27 One of the best comebacks/threats ever written for the screen. 😂😂😂
1:21 Love the reaction of Cage and the other dude.😆
Every high school senior class should watch this movie on their first day. Put that year into perspective.
“ I hope it was a hell of a piss Arnold “ 😂
As a McDonald's employee, I completely understand Brad's frustration.
People piss at me and my co-workers all the time for things that we have no control over.
And then of course, whenever the shake machine goes down, people act like the zombie apocalypse is starting.
wait until you get a real job with actual stress. I worked fast food for 4+ years thru highschool and college. Looking back it was the easiest, best job of my life (except for the pay of course). Why in the world would you care slightly that a customer is pissed? Just call the manager and walk away, its not your problem and who cares if they never come back?
BA_300_AAC That realisation doesn’t really set in until after a year or so working there. Stop caring, nearly all the managers don’t, and they’d rather you ask them to sort out an issue than fix it yourself. McDonalds is only as stressful as you make it.
@@testy462 what kind of "actual stress" do you deal with now, boomer?
@@testy462 omg stfu boomer stop thinking your past is our present
As much money as Mc Donald's has your think they would have fixed the shake machine issue decades ago.
Customer: "I'm am so tired of dealing with incompetence."
Also customer: "I eat here all the time. They usually have pretty good service, until today."
$2.75 was a lot of money back in the day. lol
Yes it was 34 years ago!
2.75 was a lot of money when the minimum wage was 6 bucks 10 years ago.
I remember in mid 1980's a slice of pizza at school was $.85 and that was a lot of money to me!
we have ruined this countries money
That breakfast would have been a steal in today's world.
I wish he would've gotten revenge sometime later in the movie.
That asshole customer should've been the dude who tried robbing the store at the end, when Brad threw that hot ass coffee in the robber's face. That would've been pretty cool.
ALRIGHT, HAMILTON! lol
Robert Ryan hell yea dude
I know the boss should have gave him a second chance
I know dude
did you see nicholas Cage in the kitchen?
They had a great time making this movie. The customer and Brad had fun making this scene.
"I HOPE YOU HAD A HELL OF A PISS, ARNOLD!"
Mr. Wildcat oh he did
Yeah I know he didn't even help him he just went back in the bathroom lol
Hahahahhaha
"I hope you had a hell of a piss Arnold!"
John Bowerman He's mad because if Arnold hadn't gone to pee, Arnold would've had to deal with the customer.
@@sha11235 lol I thought he's only pissed off because he got fired xD. That quote was funny.

Is that really him?
Alfred Prufrock , isn't that him also in the van with Spicoli as they are smoking weed and they roll out of the van
the film marks early appearances of many future stars
I just watched the movie and completely missed him
@@jimthomas777 Nah. That was Eric Stoltz. The other Red Head. The other blonde guy is Anthony Edwards who played Gilbert Love on REVENGE OF THE NERDS.
It's really sad that all Brad was trying to do was follow policy. For this the man insulted him, called him a name, and Brad snapped. Then the manager adds insult to injury by just giving the man his money back without having him make out the form. And what some people don't know is, this movie was based on actual events. Remember at the end Brad saved a convenience store from a robbery? This made the papers and this manager tried to convince Brad to come back! And no, he didn't!
They should've kept that scene in the movie! They also should've included Brad calling out his co-workers for not standing up to him. Also, it would've been a dose of karma if the robber who got a face full of coffee at the end was the same guy who got Brad fired.
I hope you had a hell of a piss Arnold!
Movie quote of the day!
Damn that ARnold, he sure knows how to throw his friends under the bus by taking the old piss!
LOL
if it was me id have been takin a shit
A _'2020/Covid-19'_ Brad would have removed his _'Employee Of The Month'_ picture off the wall, go into the bathroom and smashed it over Arnold's head, then punched him in the face to go flying back into a bathroom stall.
After that Brad would grab a chair or fire extinguisher and go outside in the parking lot looking for the customer...
The most ironic part of this scene was that brad earned employee of the month
One of my favorite memories of being in retail doesn’t even involve me working there. I’ve been fortunate enough to not have to work in this department, but a couple of my friends have. I used to hang out at Burger King during Saturday’s because all my friends worked the same shift, and whenever they had to deal with people like this (rare, but it did happen) I just let loose on the people so my buddies wouldn’t have to. They didn’t get reprimanded, the customer got told exactly what he deserved, and we all got to have a laugh over it later. Thankfully, they’re all out of there now, but man it was fun for those two years
To think Brad's attitude saves his life and gets him promoted to manager of Mi T Mart at the end of the movie but Spicoli had a hand in it by distracting the 211 suspect
The best twist to this would have been if the rude customer was the one robbing the store Brad was working in at the end.
That’s what I said. Would have been an even better way to end the movie.
My buddy met Judge Reinhold a while back and had him sign his autograph "Hope you hadda a hell of a piss Arnold!" lol
Lol nice 👍
Lmao that’s amazing
That's hilarious 😆😆😆 Is your friend's name Arnold too? Lol
As stated in the film “Steve Jobs,” *whoever said the customer is always right was, I promise you, a customer.*
26 people had a hell of a piss with Arnold.
I was at a Chinese buffet one time, and they had a special for crab legs. There was this big fat lady at the table next to mine with a pile of empty plates and eaten crab legs. She was still there by the time I was done, and she had called the manager over. She explained to the manager that the food wasn't cooked right and didn't taste like it was fresh. The manager looked at the mountain of plates she had in front of her with half eaten crab legs, and goes "If a food so bad, why you eat so much?" I lost it.
Lol😆😆😆 what was her response?
Dennis should've asked for an explanation first.
agreed
Why ask for an explanation? The point is, he can't tolerate that behavior from an employee toward a customer. The customer was a jerk, but did not threaten Brad.
Employee of the Month: Brad Hamilton
"...I'm a single successful guy," said Brad as he was cleaning the washroom's mirrors at the fast-food joint.

+Julie Erin I died of laughter
And your point is?
successful at what?.....
He has a healthy work ethic. Nothin' wrong with that
"Employee of the Month"
Not now
At least Brad (Judge Reinhold) finally caught a break when he threw hot coffee at a robber at Mi-T-Mart and became the manager afterwards.
Brad should’ve thrown stuff at that customer right after he gets fired. The manager is also a jerk.
This scene really is so true to life dealing with customers (especially irate ones) in fast food and grocery stores ...I know ive lived it.

@1:27 I love how Cage's head moves to the side just so he could be seen on camera.
What I've never understood about this scene is that the sign just says, "100% guaranteed breakfast." All that implies is the customer is definitely going to receive a breakfast eventually. There's no doubt this customer was given a breakfast. Ergo, All American Burger delivered on its promise.
From burger flipper to Beverly Hills cop.

@@attila7092ofcourse they would and then you would have to face higher consequences whereas the customer would basically face none accept for maybe the manager putting him/her in their place in the process.
If I were Brad, I would have called my supervisor to deal with the issue.
This scene is so relatable.
Everything about this scene is perfect in representing the cancer that is working retail and I've experienced similar situations multiple times as the serving employee. The slandering threatening "customer" who wants a free lunch and to rob the place by abusing customer service, the exhausted employee currently in an emotional place in his life trying to find the random forms that are never where they are meant to be and he probably hasn't been trained at all for this situation whilst being berated by the customer, not supported by his fearful unhelpful colleagues with no manager to be found. In such a pressured state the employee responds emotionally, suddenly the manager appears if by magic, he was hiding to wait for the right moment to publicly destroy the employee in front of everyone and play the "hero boss", with the aim to destroy his employee's potential career despite the employee being the employee of the month, he is given no empathy and immediately fired, most likely to keep the manager top dog without competition in his work place. The customer continues to abuse employees and customer service policy every time they visit and is rewarded for it, the business looses money and good employees always leave except for weak willed ones who break the rules to keep customers happy and stop going insane under the illogical regime.
👏
" I hope you had a hell of piss Arnold" Lol Wether he's Brad hamilton or Billy rosewood Judge was always hilarious!!!
I love Judge Reinhold's character in this film.
I don't know why, but this is my favorite scene in the movie.
I probably quote that piss line way too often.😅
This scene is brilliant for a million different reasons, among them: 1) the customer is clearly a screw loose weirdo that most likely gets walked on regularly at his own job, 2) the little guy is so frustrated that his eyes go wonky at 1:11, 3) the way every customer in the place is staring at the counter by 1:30, 4) nearly everyone at one time or another has worked for the giant d-bag that is Brad's boss Dennis, 5) that absolutely rancid "f*ck you" smirk at 2:13 over a $2.75 WIN and finally, 6) nothing is more humiliating than being fired by a guy wearing a Kentucky Colonel tie, well except perhaps having to dress up like a fake pirate.
To me, it always looked like the guy was about to start literally crying about the whole thing at the 1:25 mark.
in the book it was a woman who said the fries tasted like metal. they went through all the procedures they followed to ensure hygiene and tried to placate her and she just wouldn't let up and wanted to complain to the corporate office. In the end the asst manager is so spineless he sets up brad for theft so he can just get rid of him and not have to deal with the complaint. The woman in the book is way worse than this guy.
I should look at the book to see what other differences there are.
Since he'd already been fired, it wouldn't have mattered if he then went and kicked the guy's ass. Too bad he didn't.
2:13 more like You got your freedom back Brad.
$2.75 you can't even get a egg McMuffin today for $3 LOL
Yeah, but this was made back in 1982. It probably takes place around that time, too.
The customer would be wearing the unsatisfactory breakfast the moment after I was fired. Brad was too nice a guy.
This scene reminds me of the time when at my retail job I had a young man in his 20's go up to me and orders me to go get him a motorized cart, he claims he just had surgery and can't walk very far, I went and got him a motorized cart, then he barks orders at me by telling me to go help him find a couple items, while I was assisting him he was being rude & obnoxious towards me for no apparent reason, I just tried to be polite & respectful towards him by helping him find the items he is looking for, then he asks me how long I've been working there for, I answered his question, then he has the nerve to tell me I've sounded robotic and come across sounding like a mindless drone, all what I did was apologize to him for not showing much enthusiasm while dealing with him because I didn't want to be a jerk back to him, I even told him that I'll change my tone for him, then after I was done assisting him he gets off of the motorized cart and was walking perfectly normal, I didn't want to get into an argument with this customer because arguing with someone can cause my fuse to shorten, fortunately I haven't seen him since and hope I never will, I told the relief manager about him and she told me if a customer is being a jerk towards me I should have someone else help him because I should never have to take any abuse from a customer.
7 people got 100% of their asses kicked by Judge Reinhold.
Lol that's hilarious 😆😆😆
When I'm at work I refer to customers as 'Body Snatchers' because they look like humans but lack common sense and mercy.
But you human. .🤔😑.
@harrylongbaugh1 Again and you too also. .🤔😑.
I despise that saying "The customer is always right." I wouldn't be surprised if some people believe it's one of the Ten Commandments. Frankly, I think that phrase could be translated to mean "I as a customer can be an insufferable douchebag to service workers and get away with it."
I can't believe he got fired instead of getting a verbal warning. Especially being "employee of the month."
Christopher Hendley his girlfriend even said if you apologize he'll take you back
Well, that’s the way it was written.
I went through crap just like what Brad went through here, when I was his age and a little older. When you work in food service or any form of retail, people can just come in and give you any crap they want. Now that I am older, and utterly unafraid of the inside of a court room or even a jail cell, I would say the same thing Brad said to that little asshole, but I would add: "and getting fired won't mean shit to me, and going to jail won't mean shit to me, YOUR ASS will still be kicked!" Then, if the little prick kept it up, I would make good on my promise.
Ain't you the tough guy. x
Wow, strong man, aren't you, man👌👌👍
Sounds like you have moved on to a successful, edgy life.
Kip L Good description. I try really hard to just ignore guys like the dick in this video, and I am now in a position such that I am less likely to encounter them. The one thing I have found, though, is that when you make it clear that the BS is not going to fly, they almost always back down.
+Casey Vee Always challenge people and call them on their twaddle. Human beings cluck their thick tongues to a tune of nothing everyday. Call it up. Never need for aggression. Words are what we have. x
You hit the nail right on the head with this. I've worked numerous jobs in retail and customer service and it's true. Most of the time if there is a problem it's because the customer is an asshole like this guy. Sometimes they ask you questions, ignore the response and then play dumb when a problem arises regarding the very issue or policy you already explained to them!
Honestly a funny bit is how he says hes a single successful guy and says that with such a lack of enthusiasm 🤣
