Agreed, barrel saddles for the win every time on a tele. The CV40th JM is listed as a C but it's much thicker than a regular CV listed as having a C as well. I use rubbing compound on the foam pad in the drill for maple board necks. Gets those frets and board super smooth and shiny.
I noticed that on the gold edition 40th JM i had in, the neck was not even close to being a modern C, much more chunky vintage style. It was a happy surprise to hold that one for the first time!
@@AudiomoMusic For sure. I put a Freeway Ultra into mine and I'll tell. You what, phase switching and series parallel switching on a JM is something to behold. It was a wild wiring job, involved the freeway switch company and Mike Adams and myself to all get it sorted. Super cool sound in that but the neck, yes, definitely a pleasant surprise. Gotta say though, I much prefer the vintage tint on the neck.
Totally, I bought a version someone made with parts, came with modern tele saddles and it was angled weird and high, I got Callaham brass and it sounds and plays soooo much better. The guy I bought it from was from the Gretsch pages and he had TV Powertrons in it, good choice, total rocker but also a tele at low volume
That thing sounds great though. I dig it. That singular knob is less resistance on the overall circuit and it helps those types of guitars just have more oomph. That rawness you mention, that's what those stripped down control "cavity" type guitars have. I love it though man. Super awesome.
That's because I didn't roll the volume knob off at all, the thing loses all of it's high end immediately haha, it's a totally different playing experience for me not messing with the knobs on a guitar when I play it but it does sound great as is.
Very nice!! I've had to narrow up the outer to outer string spacing on a few Fenders. Last one was a Player Jaguar. Stock was 55mm, swapped it out for a 52mm, and it's perfect. That bridge with the brass saddles was a nice tone upgrade for this Cabronita for sure.
I've had my 2012 MIM for almost 10-11 years now... after a few months of gigging I worked out what needed doing... I replaced the bridge with a Rutter's Burrito V, fitted new Fender locking tuners, replaced the plain white pickguard with a thicker black one from WD's, I fitted Schaller strap locks as well... I left electronics as they were as they didn't give me any hassles... I also opted for leaving the Fidelitrons in as they sounded just right through my AC30... I use the volume pot all the time... I actually set my rig to suit the band and room with my guitar's volume on about 30% then ride it up and down as needed for rhythm and solos... check it out on this vid of me playing it live... I already ordered the new pickguard and was waiting for it at this point... ua-cam.com/video/QLsFFNnDCcA/v-deo.html
Good idea with the 3 barrel Jim. Wonder if they ever picked up on their mistake of claiming a modern C carve.... .90 is 58 RI les paul spec. Its definitely chunky
Most of the recent "modern C" Fenders that have been much smaller necks than this so maybe they have. I was extremely surprised when I played this one for the first time, in the best way possible love those bigger style of necks.
You little S.O.B.! The guitar not you, she's a 'dirty' little girl, huh? Not in love with the pickup's, but the up-grade to the bridge makes a big difference. Like most Tele's , half the fun is making it your own. Great job Jim. Peace & Love.
I have one of the thinline versions of this. I sometimes think of selling it, but then I play it… I changed the bridge almost immediately when I got it about a decade ago to a U.S. Strat hard tail bridge. It hits the tone I look for (clean to edge of breakup). And I find rolling the volume back sheds some of the high frequencies so I can use it as a tone control too.
You can upgrade those pickups with the original thick Filtertron magnet, corrected length pole screws and nickel steel back plate. Nickel steel covers too if those are brass. Gets you back to the "high fidelity" nature of them and less spendy than TV Jones or Curtis Novak. I feel like just volume is a little too pop-punk, a stacked pot and concentric knobs would get you a tone control back.
ı have 2 question. 1- This color is darker than thecabronita surf green ı have, how does this happen? 2- Can you share the brand of the pickguard and magnetic switch and where you purchased them?
Very cool looking guitars for sure. I agree about the new bridge as well. So much better. Not my favorite sounding pickups though. Something about the neck just doesn’t float my boat.
It's a little harsh sounding and slightly more compressed than I would want for sure but the middle position does work really well as is. Who knows what happens with this guitar honestly, could be gone in a week but if I end up holding onto it maybe I'll try some other stuff out in it.
I’ve one in black. The bridge is wrong. It should be vintage spec. The stock bridge is too wide and the strings don’t line up. I wish I had a CAR or SF colour! I love Tele’s and the simplicity of the Cab is awesome. I also have the Noventa Tele and an Esquire. Great video. Thanks man! Ha! That insert “that switch is garbage!” Is pure Al Pacino!
I went to last video and rewatched the PRS sounds after this video and them came back here and I have to say no offense but that guitar sounds so lifeless and boring compared to this one. Perhaps designing guitars to having every feature or pickup style and combination can result in something that has so many personalities that none of them stand out which i believe is why I do not like PRS or their pickups. It is also obvious to me as viewer that you enjoyed playing this guitar much more. High $$$ does not guarantee fun to play or great sounding guitar!!!!
I'll certainly agree with a few things here, I have far more fun playing this guitar than that specific PRS that's true and I also second the idea that just because a guitar is expensive doesn't mean you'll enjoy it or that it will sound great.
I see that you are addicted to collecting guitars like the majority of musicians and wanna be musicians but here is the question. How many guitars are enough and how many amps? Not everyone is rich and honestly not everyone is a show-off. Even big musicians like Mark Knopfler got rid of all their excess and just kept around 5 or 6 that they always use and love. On the road they take maybe 4 guitars (a backup in case a string pops, another tuned in drop D for ex ) and not the whole arsenal. I myself have a Yamaha acoustic for fingerpicking, an Ibanez semi-acoustic for strumming and fingerpicking, a Les Paul style Korean made (love it!) and a Strat Yamaha Pac 112v (as you see I go for asian instruments as they are great and not overly priced like American ones and asian instruments have a flatter narrower neck which is great as I have small fingers and small palm ). I have only 1 amp its a Blackstar. I think its enough although I am still playing with the idea of trying a telecaster (then I might sell the Strat). The more you play an instrument the better it gets (the wood for acoustic at least) but if you have too many guitars you play less each, another problem. And talking about tone. Maybe this Strat sounds better than the other but at the end all sounds from all guitars are anyway distorted through amps and pedals so actually what counts for the sound is not really the guitar but quality amps and pedals in my impression. I am a bad guitar player even after 6 years. I am not a person to be self taught and have no money for a guitar teacher therefore those thoughts. So once again maybe you could do a video with an honest personal view as of how many guitars, amps and pedals are absolutely needed and especially enough (minimalistic but complete). Thank you.
I did make a video about it. The answer was one guitar and I did go into detail about it. I also buy and sell these things constantly for extra money, only 2 guitars in the room have been with me for over a year. i bought and sold about 100 guitars last year alone.
Any amp that the player thinks sounds great clean and has enough headroom to take pedals for as much drive as they want is how I look at it. However I know not everyone plays the same style of music I do or even uses the clean channel at all - so it really varies.
Jim, thanks for the video, this thing sounds great!
No problem I'm happy you enjoyed it!

It's a Deep C neck, fater than the wide fat PRS and Modern C Fender..
@@Loicvers Not listed that way officially though. At least it wasn't when being sold.

Thanks Scott and yes, it is such a summer time color just in time for fall! haha

Thanks Bradford i really do appreciate the simpleness of this thing and yeah, just raw as hell.
Wow, I was one of the cool people, and didn't even realize it! :)
You should have already known that before this video man haha

Cool Jimbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks brother!!
I was made aware of this from getting a staytrem bridge!!!!!!!!!
That guitar sounds great
Love the color.
So do I, I had an old strat in this color and it took me a while to come around to getting another guitar in this finish

I don't hate the pickups, which is way more than I expected but my God the switch was terrible just like the first one hahaha
Hey Jim, Great video, what are those gloves for on the bench?
Those are some ace hardware rugged gloves I picked up a while ago, they are great
Nice🙂
Thanks James!

reminds me of that new Xaviere/GFS thinline tele with GF’Trons. great video man 👍🏽
Yep this is exacly where they go that idea from! Same for Harley Benton too, it's really just a cool base design regardless of who makes it
Where did you get that bridge I've got the same problem
Google Rutters Burrito bridge and it’ll pop up from a shop in Arizona
@@AudiomoMusicthanks I'm definitely going to check it out
What's the name of that bridge ? Is it a direct drop in?
Yep, Rutters Burrito bridge for cabronita drops right in

I don't like the Fidelietron pickups. I built one with TV Jones Powertron pickups. hte custom shop model was nice.
They aren't my favorite, I ended up with a set of Lollartrons in a different tele of a similar style that I love
