I'll be a nerd for a bit. In Russia, full names are used only in official conversations, for example in court. For this reason, “Volodya” or “Vovan”, as an abbreviation for the name Vladimir, is more suitable here
"Minä olen lumi ja lumi ja minä olen... "
I can't imagine how many times that guy must have sang that song before he could do it without messing up, it goes so fast!
@@bighillraft I know, but Surely that would still be a tongue twister for even a native speaker. Are you a native Finnish speaker who has sang that song and can tell me for sure that it is easy for anybody to say in one or two tries?
@@Jacobulous Nah the whole Finnish language is a tongue twister lol
@@Demons972 then wouldn’t it be even harder to sing it?
@@Jacobulous I mean this song has a bit of a fast tempo because is a polka after all but for Native Finnish speakers is just a walk in the park. i've been learning Finnish for the last 3 months and i memorized the lyrics already, this one along with Evakon Laulu and Uraliin are my top 3 Finnish war songs.
I know a Japanese person and of course he was able to sing it perfectly.
The Finnish language scrambles minds and this Finnish song scrambles mines.
I see what ya did there
genius
Звучит как полный бред,радиомины может и подрывались с помощью сообщений,но явно не на одной частоте с песней,да и как она вообще должна мешать?
@@aanbbnnvvvthe mines were created by the same genious engineers that created the mighty lada, combining the power of an italian scooter and the fuel efficiency of an american v8
@@aanbbnnvvv нашли частоту на радио и увидели что эта мелодия активирует мины
During soviet retreats in the Continuation War, the Soviets left radio mines on bridges and roads to sabotage finnish advances. These mines would be triggered by recon units observing the finnish units by playing three destinct tones over radio, telling the bombs to detonate. The Finns, however, quickly learned that blasting this song on every radio frequency 24/7 would stop these bombs from working, which is why Säkkijärven Polkka was the only thing you could hear on all channels for months on end, and why soviet veterans of this war have major PTSD from it lol
finally a comment that widely tells us why this song is so popular
"hey any news on the radio?"
*turns on radio and Säkkijärven polkka starts playing*
"...blyat"
Basically fortunate son but for the finns
finns waging psychological warfare
Да-да видимо вы этой песней выбесели советских солдат так что наши солдаты решили заставить финнов перключить шарманку на немцев в 1944 году 😅
Fun fact: During the Continuation War, this song was broadcasted to jam and detonate Soviet radio-controlled mines. It could do so because of the frequency at which it was being played.
Very smart i did not know that
It was actually because the mines required a specific 3 note combination to explode so they just broadcasted every frequenzy with this 24/7 to jam them
My Finnish friend told me that, and it's this random thing I can't forget for over two years.
That would work with any song
ua-cam.com/video/gZx1zl_sVTI/v-deo.html this is the version they played
For a non-Finn, the pronunciation is unusually excellent. There are a few words that reveal that the singer is not a Finnish speaker, but about 95% of the song a native couldn't tell the difference. Astonishing.
yeah considering hes an american too and not like a finnic person
The song sounds like if a danish person sang a swedish song.
@@picklechin2716 Damn bro you just insulted him and his whole family lineage by making that comparison
As I understood, you're Finn? If yes, could you please explain what does the name of the song mean?
@@valman6866guessing by the lyrics and some research (albeit from a non-Finnish person) Sakkijarvi was a town in Finland, or what is now the Leningrad oblast in Karelia, Russia, the lyrics state how sakkijarvi may be lost, but they still have the polka, referring to how the town was ceded to the Soviets in 1940
"They are so many and we are so few, how are we gonna bury them all?"
easily one of the best quotes to come out of that war
you will feel it all very well when you breathe in the wild Finnish air

0:53 I love that they just causally out of nowhere roast a horse.
Why 💀
During the Continuation war, the Finnish military discovered that the retreating Soviets had scattered radio-guided mines throughout the recaptured city of Vaipuri. These mines were activated when a three-note chord was played on the frequency to which the radio was tuned. The Finns discovered that when they played the Säkkijärven polkka tune on the same radio frequency on which the mines were set, they exploded and thus the tune was used as a kind of "mine bank". The most famous and historically used tune is a recording made on June 17, 1939 with members of the Dalfa Orchestra. The recording took place in the ballroom of the German School in Helsinki. The recording became not only the savior of Vipuri, but also the most famous performance of the Säkkijärven polka of all time.

@@TheGreatLiberator1209 Ukraine was a soviet republic. So this doesn't make sense
@@kozara8202 that doesn't change the fact that it still can be used, does it? I mean they literally are drawing German Iron Cross symbols on their tanks both as a way to identify whether tank's is friendly or not and also to troll their Russian counterparts.
@@TheGreatLiberator1209 I think you are severly mistaken if you innocently belive that Ukrainian Ultra-natinalists with a historically inaccuarate and revisionist interpretation of the second world war and early USSR (especialy the highly politicized 1932-33 famine) draw Nazi symbols on thier tanks only " to troll thier russian counterparts". While it is true that Russian state media blows the extent of the Ukrainian nazi problem out of propotion to justify the war, to claim that it is miniscule or even non- existent, like the avrg "SLAVA UKRAINI" screaming 16 year old, would be nothing more than complete and utter cognitive dissonance in the face of the grimm reality that is the rise, political normalsation and governmental instutuionalisation of the far-, like soooo far- right, of white supremacy and of Nazbolism, Nazism and Fashism since the 2014 orange "revolution".

Gdy od muzykanta usłyszysz,
Polkke o Sakkijarvi!

I tęsknote za tą ziemią przypomina,
Hej, nasz grajku, zagraj na akordeonie,
Polkke o Sakkijarvi!
Rwie starego i młodego do tańca,

Z nią zawsze życie szczęśćliwsze.

ma także wiatry wiejące przez drzewa,
nasza stara Karelia gra, każdy to wie,

Bo ta polkka tak pięknie i delikatnie gra,
Hej, niech koń lamentuje i niechaj też uzde gryzie,
bo ma głowe za dużą!
Choć dziewko ma, potańczmy sobie,
bądźmy szczęśćliwi w tej letniej pogodzie,
może i straciliśmy Sakkijarvi,
ale dalej mamy tą polkke!
Gdy opuścilśmy nasze stare plaże,
pustelnik w obcych miejscach pokój znajduje,
gdy słucha tej melancholinej pieśni,
Polkki o Sakkijarvi!
Jest to, co prawda, tylko polkka
