  • Richard Scrope, 1st Baron of Bolton, was granted a licence to crenellate by Richard II. The Scropes were Yorkist supporters during the War of the Roses and we were very fortunate to be joined by Sir John Savile’s Household and The Beaufort Companye to give us an insight into medieval life and warfare during this period in history.

Thanks! It was really awesome to have the re-enactment crew there, it gave a real atmosphere. The smells too of the food cooking and the fire in the hearth...

I visited Bolton Castle in 2019 , I found it very interesting a place where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Sadly there were no workers or soldiers there that day but I did find a nail that had been made lying on the ground and kept it.

Imagine my surprise when I found out my family actually built it! Found out through Ancestry, and double, triple and quadruple checked because I didn't believe it. But its true!
