It is a real privilege to be able ta watch an artist at work. What an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your art with the rest of us. Absolutely beautiful.
I absolutely love that you show your WHOLE process. I wish more people would be honest about the tools they use and just show it for the love of the craft. I am a huge fan of rotary tools, and I wish more people showed how they use them. Please make more videos like this. I absolutely adore watching them and learning the process you use.
My 4 yr old son and I watch your channel all the time as his treat before bedtime. He absolutely loved this one!! He's a pretty big fan. He loved the dragon head too!!
Edward James III That is really cool to hear! I assume most 4 year olds watches minecraft videos all day so it is nice that i can contribute with something else! Wish you and your son all the best! Jonas
I love that you show your exact routine even where the spot you go to think and relax and figure out your thoughts. It has helped me and im sure manh other people
Congratulations fantastic great work, can you please explain how you managed to apply the shine on the wood of the dragon's eye? thank you very much Jonas Olsen.
Classic Jonas, What a man you are, The end result, so artistic and perfect, you must be proud. When you were sanding at your Parents house you reminded me of Mike Stinnett minus the little dog Pearl and minus the bushy beard!!! You seem to be comfortable with your life as does Mike, good luck in your future endevours my friend, from John in England.
Thanks John! I am spending a lot of time up at the cabin lately and it is very good for me. It is fun to show a bit "behind the scenes" in my videos :)
The fact that you say " another good tip to be good at wood working is to like and subscribe to my channel" gets you a thumbs down, that's the most pathetic and desperate things I've heard! Not to mention an outright lie! Another garbage UA-camr who doesn't know how to edit or give advice, you're just hear for the likes!
You've outdone your self my friend. This looks so realistic its like watching the end of the first Hobbit movie. Love your work and love watching you so please, keep it coming because I cant wait till the next one.
I'm just blown away by your talent! I can't sculpt or carve worth a damn, it's like my brain just isn't able to process stuff in 3D like yours is. Amazing to watch, keep it up! :)
Awesome art. I would hame fashioned the eye out of colored resin and put a small red LED in the back attached to a motion sensor in from so when anybody passed by the eye lighted up. Beautiiful work as-is tho.
heh you shouldnt have glued the piece in the back. either hinged it or even just pinned it... could have kept something back there... would have been poetic hehe keep a secret in the eye of the dragon..
I am by no means an expert and I'm a huge fan of the final product but I thought from the thunbnail that you were going to use orange resin and form it to shape so that you could potentially put a light behind it and make it glow or just have a more eyball looking texture! That could be cool for a future project!
Jonasolsenwoodcraft you should do a huge wall mural out of little pieces of wood carved into a scene from the Hobbit move like when the dragon is looming over Bilbo and looking down at him with one eye you carved the eye now all that is needed is the rest of the scene like the gold, Bilbo, pillars, etc. that would be very awesome.
Have you ever thought of making a carving of Daredevil from the Netflix series? Or something inspired by the character? Or a House Elf from Harry Potter.
I am just getting into this kind of work. Have not even received my Dremel tool in the mail from Amazon yet LOL. I have subscribed to your channel. You do awesome work!
This is amazing! ♥ I loved the "another woodcarving tip is to subscribe to this channel", lmao. I don't see a lot of channels that do wood carving using hand-tools-- most of the ones I see seem to favor wood-turning-- so I absolutely adore your videos! By the way, would you be willing to do a "tour" of your workshop and show what tools you have and what their primary uses are? I'm trying to get into wood carving/wood turning and I'm not really sure where to begin, or where to learn about the tools used in this craft, and I learn best from videos. Thank you! :)
Thank you! well it is funny that you mention that i use hand tools, but actually a few people are mad at the for using powertools :D Yes i can do a tour, but then i will have to do a lot of cleaning first :D
May I ask how you take care of the amount of dust that the Dremel creates? Because I tried doing it in my basement and I ended up getting dust in places that I didn't think it went
I dont and its a mess all over the place!! But i got myself a fairly cheap industrial vacum cleaner that i will use. The best option would be to get some kind of dust collector close to your workstation
What a beautiful piece of art! It is astounding the way you finished it off. The pupil turned out amazing! What type of multi tool do you use? I have a Dremel, but you're seems to have a little bit more power than mine. I'm truly curious. Many blessings to you!
I would have never guessed. I saw you use the grinding stones as you were placing the last bit of detail on that beautiful piece. I've never seen a grinding stone used that way. Fantastic video! Many blessings!
Can we get a video of just you sanding out on the cabin? That short bit was so incredibly peaceful, I really wanna just run it in the background while I work on things.
It is funny that you mention it. I have (and probably you as well) noticed that there is a big market for calm videos here on youtube. I have been concidering opening another channel with calming nature stuff.
hahaha 😂 smaug is one hell of a challenge, even the designers must have had a little trouble drawing him, so your job with this piece was amazing to watch, respect!
Is this supposed to be some sort of ode to Lucifer that old dragon 🐉?! I never understood people that worship a crummy old fallen angel. Why settle when you can have the real uppercase God?! 😂 I see the symbolism everywhere. You may not be a satanist but there definitely are deep rooted meanings behind both the dragon and the eye symbology.. what will you do next the eye on the back of the dollar bill?! How about the dude on the Statue of Liberty 🗽?! Hahaha tooo fun!

Just a small tip. Especially with the amount of movement in this video. I would invest in better lighting... you could give a viewer epileptic siezures with the light flashing going on. Especially when you were working on the back of the eye.
Great looking Smaug's Eye Carving. The first red wheel carving tool is fantastic. I used to carve wooden signs about thirty years ago. That tool would have changed my life. ha ha.

Congratulations fantastic great work, can you please explain how you managed to apply the shine on the wood of the dragon's eye? thank you very much Jonas Olsen.
