A true classic that will live on forever. Mickey has one of the best voices in rock and roll and blues. Love this song. Has everything needed to be perfect, which it is.
I never forgot this, saw him sing it at a Elvin Bishop concert in San Francisco, don't know the year, but it was fabulous. The best thing I'd ever heard and to this day I can still hear it in my head and love it...!! Had to research him and see more about it. Mickey Thomas, thank you for your great voice and feeling on this song...!!
I fell in love with you, Mickey Thomas, when you sang “Fooled Around & Fell In Love” in the 70’s. My all time favorite song! Saw Elvin & The Marshall Tucker band in Phoenix, AZ in the 70’s. End of show jam w/ both bands was absolutely fantastic. Awesome Vocals you have🤙🤙
That's one of my very favorite songs. It was on the radio when I was just a small kid. I grew up to it. Mickey is such an awesome singer. I love to hear the Ga boy sing the blues.. He's always been so handsome too! 😁
Love this song... Some songs grow on you and you eventually like and then love them, but other songs like this one, grab and catch you immediately and you want to keep comin' back for more. As a musician, if the song motivates me to want to play my guitar and/or learn the song to play along with it, then it fits that higher level. Well done on all levels! :)
This song is pure magic and to hear how it came about is amazing. Then again so many great songs which are hits get throw on to the albums last minute. It put Elvin Bishop and Mickey Thomas on the map.
Mickey should have gotten half the profits from the "Struttin' My Stuff" LP. No guest vocal performance ever did more to sell someone else's album. Most fans who bought it for "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" were shocked when they heard Elvin Bishop's voice on the other tracks.
Capricorn went crazy , yeah the whole world went crazy over this song . Couldn’t go to a dance where people flooded the floor from the first few chords .
I really enjoyed these segments. He seems like a really nice person. I keep looking at his pendant though. I'm sure it's nothing, but it looks a little bit creepy--not that he's creepy--I don't mean anything nasty--I just mean that it unsettles me. But maybe it's some kind of celtic artifact thing. Well, I still really enjoyed this series and I'd never have known much about him without this. Amazing singer. Thank you for posting.
This might sound like overkill but it’s not. “Fooled Around and Fell In Love” was a transformative song. It put Elvin Bishop on the pop charts and it made Mickey Thomas's career. (Later he went to Jefferson Starship.) You can find an early video of the song right here on YT. The tune itself is nothing special. But Mickey Thomas's vocal is a modern classic. And so is Bishop's guitar solo.
the funny thing is he made a pretty lame solo album called "As Long As You Love Me" just prior to his joining the Starship and the irony is he did a cover of "Somebody To Love" on that album....did he know?????

Mickey's voice is the whole song.... he made the tune.
Very true, Mickey's voice sold the song! But you have to give Elvin credit for writing a great song with a catchy chorus, plus a great guitar solo!
Seems like such a nice guy. Smart, interesting, articulate....Fooled Around and Fell in Love is one of my all time fav songs.
This dude was one of the greatest frontmen of all time. One of the premier sounds of the 1980's.
David Muzzatti 70's to
He’s so under rated. One of the best. Up there with steve perry!!

We'll never forget you for that.

Mickey....my vocal hero dammit!
Thanks for the additional info, logjammers. Mickey's got a one-in-a-million voice if ever there was one.

when i first heard that song i heard it on the movie boogie nights.

PERFICT!!!
it wasn't a guest" vocal performance....he was a member of Elvins band.
"Spend Some Time" is a similar Mickey gem on Hometown Boy Makes Good.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
classic...
TG Sheppard also did a great version of the song Fooled Around & Fell In Love around the same time.
@rjmprod It's not a pedal steel.
It's harmonics played on a regular guitar with a volume pedal, played by Johnny V.
Good 'ol Georgia boy, there
Audino’s theme song . Period
What great singer !! made a burned-out half *ss looser band sound great.
No auto tune or other BS, just a GREAT voice.
I love that story... such a consummate rockre...
I dont know why... but Mickey Thomas kind of reminds me of Jose Feliciano... maybe its the glasses...
He does.
Iceguy thanx
Mickey has a better voice than Steve perry
So where's East Lafacka?
Is that urban for East L.A.?
@BlackThoughtChannel lol that's alright if you were aiming for the "like" button.
I wonder if Mickey Thomas and Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon are related. They have the same personality and talk alike!!
the funny thing is he made a pretty lame solo album called "As Long As You Love Me" just prior to his joining the Starship and the irony is he did a cover of "Somebody To Love" on that album....did he know?????
LOL ... dude ... you're American, but that was funny.
@khayelitshaissafe Your dad's a woman!

@Rob Mikels Looks like the star of David to me
Too bad your spelling isn't PERFECT. ;)
