Many years ago, my old bandmates and friends Walt Dickson, Bill Everett and Elvin went to Petaluma to hear Merl Haggard. When we got back, we went back to our studio, and messed with some tunes. Now, Walt knew Elvin, but I didn't really know him back then. Elvin blew my mind with his amazing ear for harmony lines and such. He is not only a great guitarist, an amazing overall musician! He had us playing four part guitar lines within just a few minutes!!!!!
I saw Elvin at the Santa Barbara County Bowl about a week or two after Fooled Around hit it big on the radio. It was a great show but his amp (or the PA) crapped out right when he played the big solo! Micky Thomas sang his ass off and Johnny V on guitar. Great memories, Sons of Champlin, I think opened?? Not sure. Saw Bob Marley on his first big tour there, Boz Skaggs, Jeff Beck Blow by Blow.............
