I believe the black in her paintings is black ink with granulation medium as Ann does mention in her books and in her DVDs that she likes using them.
Yes. This is what I was thinking, too--maybe an acrylic ink.
Curious, doesn't she say in the books what she uses? Also the cows over the newspaper does she say if it's gesso and if so is she using watercolour still please? I've a few books on my list just wondering which one to get next. Thank you for the preview, it's such a help in deciding

Beautiful book. Thank you for the video. Great to see if paying a princely sum is worth it for this book - and CLEARLY IT IS! Some of the work reminds me of Michael Morgan. He was obviously an influence on her style. It is out of this world.

Great review! I have the book but it's always interesting and motivating to watch reviews from other artists. I notice in your Schminke Horadam swatches that all the paints seem to be very granulating. Is that so?

Are the index fingers rings staying in place?
I really enjoy Ann Blockley's work. But, I have a hard time with the use of newspaper in a painting. Newspapers are loaded with acid and acid eats away at a painting, destroying it. That's why we use archival and acid free products, particularly on pieces we hope to sell. We owe it to those who buy our pieces to secure their investment as much as possible by using materials that resist corrosion and contamination.
Judith A Rowland how about using clear Gesso? I haven’t tried the newspaper myself yet, but Gesso helps to prime any paper. Would that seal those acid inks possibly?
@@AlyonasWatercolourCreations No, the acid in the newsprint would begin to break down anything you're painting on very quickly. Gesso would be on top, and not seal the newsprint from the paper substrate or the pain that's on top of it.
