Hi Everyone, I have been trying to learn more about watercolour textures. Ann Blockley is a great watercolour artist to refer to when it comes to creating a mood through the use of texture, her book is a fantastic learning source! Here is an orchid that I worked on from her book, which was so much fun :)

Lovely flower. A hint of help. Doing a light outline sketch of the flower before, nothing detailed, will help keep the "boundaries "of negative painting in perspective.

Love the bluish green part at the top of the illustration... 🤩I'll definitely try this one😊

If you read Ann Blockley's book, she adds acrylic inks, and splashes on Granulating Medium. She tilts her board. The latter makes the acrylic split and break up, and flow in the directions she choses. I have yet to try it.

Stunning Alyona. I love Ann Blockley. By the way, Amazon.UK now has Ai Nakamura's book in English. I ordered mine through Amazon.ca as I live in Canada. While in the UK in October I got Billy Showell's synthetic brushes and love them. I also went to Jackson's and got the 10/0 quill which I also love. I love your videos. Thank you very much for sharing your art.

Alyona, I think the texture at the top was done by sanding a bit of watercolor pencil onto the wash while still wet.Shirley Trevina shows it in her book ,which I think you have? It is a great technique! Also, I love Daniel Smith's Lunar black. When dry it looks like black pepper floating in the wash and it is transparent. Good Luck!

Yes,sandpaper! It is a pretty cool technique and many watercolor painters use it.Give it a go but make sure to do it on a damp or wet wash.

Similar to the original painting you can get gorgeous granulation with Daniel Smith's Lunar Black, Hematite Genuine and Black Tourmaline Genuine.

I have this book and love her style! But never tried to copy anything from it. Will be watching this again more slowly on a bigger screen and have a go myself. Thank you for reminding me about this :-)

Good attempt - brave to try publically! word of advice - use an OLD brush to mix colours, you will ruin your good ones! Thanks for sharing. You don't need to copy someone else - you have a style of your own!

Hello, I'm a brand new subscriber. I don't think Ann mixed in mars black watercolor to each of her other colors to achieve her piece. But, you had fun creating this, and you like it, that what matters! I enjoyed your process. And your picture came out lovely! Did you have gesso on your page first? You don't have many comments on your videos...I wonder if you answer questions. I really love your ring; the one with the "V" shape, do you remember where you purchased it? I noticed you left a link for your nail polish... so I was hoping you might be kind enough to share about your ring :-) Thanks you for sharing!
