It's more likely the difference between Google Maps and an in-car navigation system with a local location directory.
The problem with Google Maps is that it gives you what you searched, but it doesn't necessarily know if you can physically go there. For these kinds of natural features like waterfalls, it's very likely there's a parking area where they should have gone to and walked from there, which most Japanese car navigation systems should already come programmed with unless it's some bloody unknown location.
