I started out majoring in Psychology as it's one of my main passions, but I'm now considering Cognitive Science and various engineering disciplines as I want to combine my psychology knowledge with math and science. However, I also love Anthropology, and am considering possibly minoring in it and/or getting an Associate's in it, and I would love to conduct some ethnographic research at some point in my life. It is always great to hear you talk about anthropology, I always learn from your videos!
Hey Matthew! All of these topics sound amazing so I feel like you really can't go wrong! I actually started out with a major in anthropology and minor in cognitive science so I really do have such a soft spot for these things. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, I am so glad you are gaining things from these videos!
Hey alivia, i'm starting my first year for anthropolgy, and i want to thank you because your channel and videos are so interesting and i really like the way you're talking about the anthropology 🙏🏻❤ keep going😘
Hey Michket, thank you so much! Starting anthropology was such an exciting time for me so enjoy it as much as you can. Thank you for the kind words and good luck!
Fantastic video! As a second year psychology major, I don't think I could have explained the differences and similarities any better! I agreed with you on everything you said. I'm actually taking Intro to Cultural Anthropology this semester and I'm absolutely loving it! Anthropology has offered me a fresh perspective on human behavior. Like you said, the main difference between psychology and anthropology is that anthropology is much, much more holistic. That's not to say psychology isn't holistic; psychologists have an ethical obligation to look at where a person is coming from (upbringing, community/home life, medical history) before they can even consider a diagnosis. "There are elements of anthropology in psychology and elements of psychology in anthropology." Truer words have never been spoken. I'm considering switching my major to anthropology or even double majoring because anthropology has really opened my eyes to holism.
Oh my gosh I'm so glad!! I know I've got the anthro side down but hearing this from a psych major is incredibly validating, so thank you! Also, I love hearing that you are having a positive experience with cultural anthropology. Psych and anthro truly do compliment each other well so I can see how this is a tough decision to make. Good luck!
Even we as social anthropologists can help people, we do after all have applied anthropology and even clinical anthropology. And not to mention applicable, practicing aspects of medical and psychological anthropology that, at least in theory, deal even with one single individual. Unfortunately, I don't think we still have much experience, not like psychologists. We need to catch up. The best recent exemple of applying social anthropology to world problems is journalist Gillian Tett's case, who almost predicted financial crisis in 2008 thanks to ethnographic research she did.
Thank you so much for your vedios..!! I've been looking for any accadamic major ,whatever the degree, besaide my mine, and I've found only Anthorpology that I could (depending on many reasons), So, my question for you please: do you think it would support my major and I could get benefit from. My Bacholar and master degrees are Geography, and I have a high cirtificate (diploma) in Geographic Information Systems. I'm also a PhD student in Geospatial Scince (in spcific: Geographic Information Scince)? I'm hesitated..! Any advice please.! Thank you again!
Hello! It is clear to me that you have accomplished so much already which is incredible. I think anthropology will always be a good compliment to other disciplines (including the ones you mentioned) but at the same time, sometimes the best thing to do it just get started. If the career options available to you right now are not the ones you are interested in AND you think doing a degree in anthropology could create opportunities you like, then I would absolutely recommend. You got this!
