if you can afford peltors, get them. if you are stuck buying something like this in a situation that's basically you'd rather have something than nothing, they aren't too bad. I use them every training/range day and they keep my ears well protected. I have them mostly for comms and would recommend using earplugs such as the surefire sonic defenders under the headset for better protection. but from personal experience, they do fine on thier own.
