I just wanted to say I love your channel the way that it is. I know that some people give you some flack about savings, but the channel is called life and numbers and you have to do what works for you.
Everybody has an opinion so be careful about spending so much time justifying or explaining in the comments why you do what you do if someone has a problem with it. I honestly get tired of videos that are just about paying off debt. Because there’s so much more to life and finances than just paying off debt and you’re a great example of how you can pay off debt and still enjoy life.❤
As someone who is living with a brain tumor. You can’t make a life all about savings and paying off debt. You have to enjoy some cause you never know when things might change. You seem to have found the perfect balance.❤

Thank you! I know for the most part people have good intentions when commenting on videos. But personal finance is personal so everyone isn’t going to agree with my decisions.
Like you said I try to make good decisions that fit my life and learn from my mistakes. When I paid off my car I was extremely focused to the point that it affected my mental health and I don’t want to repeat that. Now I want to have a balanced life; complete my goals and enjoy life along the way.
Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing about your tumor. Life can change quickly so it’s important live in the moment sometimes and not always be tunnel visioned on the future. Keeping you in my thoughts! 💜

If you tag your hotel cc charge as debt and your cc payments as debt, then wouldn't that mean you're calculating each charge 2x in debt?

Not sure I understand your question. It's only charged once as debt. I paid for the hotel on a credit card so that's why I labeled it as debt. Then when I got paid I immediately paid it off. And I also did an extra payment of $1,000.

I think I understand now...if you make a cc purchase that you then pay for it in full, you tag those as debt. But if you make a cc purchase that you don't pay for in full yet, you give those a different tag?

Anytime I make a purchase on my credit card, I tag that as debt, whether I paid for it in full or not.

Hmmm..that would go back to my first point then. For example, if you didn't have any cc bal and you charged something for $1k you tag that purchase as debt. At the end of the month, when you make a cc payment for the total bal of $1k you also tag that as debt. That means if you tallied up your debt for the month you would have counted it 2x. Once when you charged it and once again when you pay for it.

I like your channel but I'm confused because I thought this was more of a financial & savings channel. I would respectfully like to say that you spend a lot but you don't save a lot. You make a great salary but you never include savings or 401k or tithing or even sinking funds. I've been watching you for a year maybe and the video that got my attention is when your rent went up and you were house hunting and also the video where you paid your car off quickly. I'm more of the mind set where you live below your means and you save.more than you spend. But, I'm much older and might be closer in age with your parents but please.remember " to whom much is given much is required. Also, glad you learned from the error with your rent payment, but to be honest you are not living small ( trips and flights and Beyonce tickets are expensive.) I know this is long but I just had to comment because if you're in tech all these companies are laying off and that big salary is not promised. Again, I say all of this respectfully because you're grown and this is your life but I'm saying this from a place of parent talking to their child or a friend talking to their bestie. Good luck with all your endeavors and God Bless ❤

Thanks for your outlook on everything! I tithe every month, with my first paycheck of the month, and I include in the videos that go over that paycheck. I haven't been contributing to sinking funds for several months because I've either been focused on saving to buy a house or paying off debt. I can start talking about my investments in future videos but I contribute 7% of my salary to my 401K every paycheck. I'll also start contributing to a HSA in March and when my credit card debt is gone I'll contribute to a Roth IRA again.
I get where you're coming from but I do think I live below my means all things considering. The concert is a rare thing for me (the last time I went to a concert was 2018) and it's something special I do with my sister. And I'm not doing anymore "retail therapy". If I want to treat myself, I plan for it in advance, don't finance it, and pay for it cash.
I don't work for a tech company, I just have a technical role. But the amount of layoffs are scary and I do think about it. Which is why I'm trying to pay off my high interest debt. I already have an emergency fund and when the high interest debt is paid off, I be contributing to my savings again.
Thank you again for your concern, I really do appreciate it! I'm going to keep striving for my goals while at the same time enjoying a few of the small things in life. 😊
