I live in Gales Ferry right outside groton CT. We had almost no effects from the storm very little wind and lots of rain. However my wife works in westerly ri and that part of the state, all of Washington County really got whalloped by wind and 70 percent were without power while on the other side where I am in New London County we peaked at 11 percent. The sun was out here by 2pm it was crazy. Your impact definitely depended on which side of the eye you were on. Definitely lucked out on this storm.

The 11pm update from HNC seems to show what you anticipated with that short term trend moving the storm's landfall further east. I was around 10 miles away from the HNC forecasted track earlier today but now I am at the outer edge of their cone.. I am sure it will change again by morning but I really appreciate your video that explained a lot of the details that are not explained by most forecasters. Much appreciated.

Always enjoy your videos, Levi. You're over there in Hawaii. It appears that Linda has regained TS strength east of the islands but no advisories are being issued by CPHC. What's up with that? Tight LLC and ASCAT this afternoon had 35 kts in heavy squalls north of the center.
A video idea! Maybe you could follow up on a few hurricanes after landfall. I would be particularly curious how accurate the forecast was for wind, flooding etc.. Just a broad overview. I enjoy learning more science and the modeling is so interesting! 🙏
The disclaimer is there but this is probably the best analysis. If you're on the coast prepare for possible storm surge. Survey your property and don't be in a room close to a large tree during landfall. Be ready for power outages and boil water mandates. Good luck New England we love you.
The "ensembles" of the GFS and Euro models are increasingly showing the storm going further east of its current projected track, possibly east of Montauk point. I guess the NWS will have the update at 11pm
@@missmiller7829 stay safe out there. I have a few friends with buisness on the shore line. Luckily we have all this cold water around us to help knock the intensity down.
I remember this storm tho.. they had it hitting Long Island at first and not just Long Island but the central part of it and then they had it hitting the hamptons but it completely missed and went way more east (which you basically said would happen) i did hear that north east storms are really hard to predict tho so i get it.. i also heard the north east is going to get more and more hurricanes in the near future ( i honestly think hurricane ida did more damage to the north east then henri did which is crazy to think about since that started in Louisiana)
A slightly nit-picking question, hiding a more serious one underneath. Why was Henri called a Tropical Storm? The Tropics define the area where the Sun is directly overhead at some point in the year: that of Cancer, the northern tropic, lies at about the latitude of Cuba. The MDZ lies below this, so those count. Henri, however, was spawned east of Bermuda and did a tight loop around that before heading north. The real question relates to the wind circulation, primarily of the jet streams, which is Levi's speciality. These tend to lie in bands around the planet, and make more sense as a driver of storms high in the atmosphere than a coincidence of solar position. Admittedly there may be a certain link between the two, but wouldn't it be more focused to talk in terms of the wind bands creating them? This way we break the superficiality which I commented on earlier.
Don't downplay what you do Levi. No one is better at predicting all that there is to know about hurricanes than you. Have followed you for quite awhile, and I would take what you say over what NHC, TWC or any local weather person says
Hopefully Master Cowan-san will have thoughts on the current NHC#1 in the Caribbean Sea, crossing the Yucatan Peninsula before reforming next weekend, running just off the Mexican east coast before coming on shore on the Mexican-Texas border on Sunday, possibly reaching hurricane strength at the same time, per GFS. The mid-Atlantic thing they show dies over colder north-atlantic water, and the last of the current trio stalls and dies.
Only if there's something needing to be said. Right now, there's a couple of areas of latent interest in mid-Atlantic, peeling off the MDZ on the African coast, but it's too early to make anything significant from them - next weekend, perhaps. That doesn't mean there's no wash-up on Henri - it's landfall saw nothing, because what was being watched was high level. It had sheared with the low level off to the west, on the NY/NJ border, as recognised by today's (Monday) NHC/NOAA briefing. A lot of the African energy continues to cross Panama, because the Atlantic high pressure area loock like it'll block Carribean development for at least another week. What is interesting is that a hurricane forming in the Eastern Pacific at the end of the week looks like it'll make landfall on the US - Mexico border. Given that's at the limit of foreseeability, could LA get the water it needs by the barrelful? This is our host's area!
I am in southern Maine on the coast. I’m wondering what will happen here when the storm turns and starts coming back east after landfall. Will that still cause a storm surge or will it push the water out?
7 JEhovah has sworn by the Glory of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and all who dwell in it mourn? And on the earth will be anxiety of nations with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men fainting from fear, and expecting those things which have come on the earth.
