Oh Ive been researching like mad & looking to invest in around 8kw woodburner. So difficult to decide & cant find much on the Heta Inspire 55. Parkway Aspect 8 & Stovax Chesterfield/Sheraton Wide are in my short list....need to decide asap 🙈

Hi Gabriel. Could you please show us how you switch out your stoves? I installed mine years ago (adhering to regs , of course!), but used fire cement as well as rope. i understand youre not an advocate of fire cement, and i agree with you that it looks messy and cracks etc. I am looking to maybe replace my stove (Flavel Rochester 8, as it was then - now Portway. Review maybe to see what you think?), and would like a clean and simple cement-free solution. All the best!

Officially if you were to change your stove the whole installation would require recertificating. I have adjustable flue pipes on my stoves and I will only dry joint them (no rope or sealant of any kind), so whilst this works for me, it’s not something that would comply.

Hi, we have a fiddly old squirrel burner and it's just too fiddly for us. Too many controls not really our style. We only burn wood so would be interested in what you would reccomend.

I loved the Morsø Squirrel when it was made. Lovely thing!
This stove comes in a squirrel sized version (the inspire 40). That might be worth a look, as they’re not dissimilar in terms of the problems they were built to solve:
      Made for the British market
Multi-fuel but leaning towards wood burning
      Excellent control
      Capable of more serious use
High end, and built with an excellent and accurate finish.

Are you blowing into the bare brick chimney or have you run 6inch flu straight to pot

Our chimneys are always lined, but I do climb up and swap things around as and when I need to. Currently this is running on 5”.

Does this need a direct air source given the larger output?

If you have an older house, no.
Otherwise an air brick in the room the stove is in will suffice.
But direct air is always going to be more efficient.
Pulling cool air from outside will mean denser air than pulling warmer air from indoors, so an added bonus.

@@huwbishop6995 I thought it was law to have direct air above 5kw for some reason. I do live in an old house as it happens but already have the Ambition 5

No, direct air isn't compulsory, however if you have the ability to do so, it's well worth it.
I'm not sure of the cfm of a stove, but open fires they say, renew the air in the room every 16 minutes on average.
All that cold air has to come from somewhere.
It's obviously advisable to have the correct amount of ventilation, even if you're not going along the route of direct air.
If you've an old house, I'd not be too concerned. Just monitor if you were to replace your existing stove.
Switch on extractor fans etc with the stove lit, open a door when it's flat to the mat. If you notice significant improvements or the fire reacts to an external influence, then you could adjust the incoming air accordingly.

    HI,
Does it do convection heating as well?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  3 місяці тому +1

Convection and stoves is very simple. Typically the only difference is another panel on the sides with an air gap. This stove doesn’t have that, but I do think the real world differences would be fairly minor. The primary advantage and purpose of convection stoves is about lowering distances to combustibles and making them better suited to be freestanding. In this case, this stove is very much designed for a fireplace.
