  • On February 1, 2024, the new R211T Open Gangway cars made their debut in passenger service! Unlike previous cars, these feature connections that allow passengers to move freely rather than being confined to individual cars. The first train entered service on the (C) line and was made up of cars 4040-4044 (with the hard shell design) and 4050-4054 which has the soft shell design. It is not yet known when the other ten open gangway cars will enter service. Enjoy!

Not only did they make it better by doing half hard shell and half soft shell. They did it in the most best possible way for fans to see both train sets together. And I love it!

Adding to this. After around like 2 weeks I am very impressed of how the R211T’s are holding up on the C. Sure one set had a sign glitch but it redeemed itself. And that’s why I’m going to love them now as of today. But that’s just me. What’s yall opinions about these new cats on the tracks?

The first articulated trains ever built for NYCT were the BMT Zephyrs back in the 1930s!!!

It actually was the D-Type Triplex's in the 1925.

Those are some really cool walkthrough cars!! Would be great if they would model them in O gauge for the layout!! I love the style.

Very nice! I see that this train has two versions of the gangway, one hard, and the other soft. I prefer the soft one since it looks and feels better; the hard one looks old-fashioned.

Tbh I think both of them are fine, and is a great leap compared to the old fashioned enclosed cars.

No a full length train of hard shell would only have two a cars and my second option is full train of soft shell

I believe the harder shells are more sustainable. Soft shells will fall victim to the city’s grit/grime and will become a maintenance nightmare.

Very nice ,looks like new r211T’s are here ,or I call them as the future of nyc trains ,did anyone notice at 1:09 that is a a cool feature and at 1:38 unlike the r211 a it has a a different Layout on the screen also at 2:39 there is an open gangway layout then at 2:49 there is a different open gangway layout ,what !? ,it seems like the MTA doesn’t know which design to choose ,I would prefer the 2:39 the one which is softer and at 3:21 sounds like a train engine in Taiwan ,when a train is arriving into stations ,it sounded like that 😮,i when to Taiwan.before ,and this train sounded the same as the Taiwanese metro trains (the c651 in Taipei )
