Dude, I love watching your videos. Where I live, I am the only guy in the area that has ANY knowledge of this stuff...working on radios, amps, computers...so technically I am "The Tech Guy" in my neck of the woods, and I've learned quite a bit watching you. I am currently in the process of learning the in's and out's of amp building...I want to be able to build my OWN amps from scratch, and I'm in the process of starting up my own radio shop here where I live...hell, everyone brings their gear to me anyway, I may as well make a legit business from it. I'd love to be able to design, build and tune my own line of home-built amps for the radio crowd where I live, as well as maybe an e-bay store. I am still in the learning process, though. My current mission at the moment is finding a decent Bird 43 meter, a high amp power supply with variable voltage and a digital voltage and amps readout meter, kind of like your set up. I'd give my left nut to have even HALF the equipment that you have...lol.
Well keep your left nut cause you may need it lol lol. brother I honestly have what you call, "Just Enough To Get By" meaning i need a lot more equipment then I have. You can go to ebay and find this guy named matt something I can't remember the rest of the letters to his username but it will be really easy to find him go to eBay and search for bird 43 and just look at the people's username is the person that Matt 2K or something like that well anyway he sells a setup with a aftermarket bird 43 meter movement line section and cable for just $140, then you can get you a plastic case or buy a metal case from fatboy to put the meter in. this will at least get you started. I personally try to only use genuine bird equipment because I am using my industry standard equipment for a precise readouts so there is no need to be using non bird equipment cuz I'm trying to keep everything as precise as possible but I have tried these aftermarket meters and they seem to work just fine. maybe one day I'll be able to I have kits for purchase that people can build their own amplifiers. keep pushing forward brother if you're the only person around where you live when you have a hole that needs to be filled. I am the same way also I got into computers around the age of six and started designing software around the age of 10 back in the old school AOL 2.0 warez days making proggies and feeding off of others source code lol. around the age of 13 or 14 I started phone phreaking and that is when I begin to learn how to solder following schematics and such so all that didn't prepare me a bit for this. Thanks a bunch for your comment my friend keep watching the videos as they come along I plan on doing a lot more of these informational videos.
1883GotDown -- That's awesome, you sound like how I grew up...lol. My late Grandpa (R.I.P.) used to work in the oil fields. I was around the age 4 to 6 and he'd bring home all the mechanical stuff from the fields, timers, meters, mercury switched timers, etc...and he'd give them to me, hand me a pile of tools and say "Ok, kiddo...take 'em apart and put 'em back together"...that's how I got started learning to fix things. He had the old rotary dial 40 channel Cobra 29XLR in his work truck, and had a Cobra base at the house...and that's what got me into CB'ing. I do have a question for you...I have an older PDC700 meter, a Yeasu YS-200 meter and a Drake W4 meter with 200 watt and 2000 watt scales in switchable forward and reverse modes. I have calibrated the PDC700 and Yeasu meters the best I can, but the Drake meters are giving me hell. Can you calibrate them to your Bird meter and how much would you charge?
+Gunslinger Survival hey brother sorry for the delay I'm getting back to you on this question I need to get way better at responding to my comments but yes you can send that Drake on down and I will match it up for you for $20 no biggy. shoot me a message over at this email and I will get you my address threemanpro then AT then the gmail then the DOT then the COM
1883GotDown -- Got it. bro. Dude, I really appreciate it. I may just send you my PDC700's, they are the older set, as well as my Yeasu YS-200's...calibrate them all as close to your Bird 43's as possible so I can get some fairly to damn close accurate readings for people. I appreciate it, bro. What ever it costs...$20.00 each, discount for multiples, I may send you some stuff as partial trade payment, I'll email you...whatever dude...I gotta get this done, bro. Thanks!!!
By the way, just wanted you to know I have started uploading videos again :) Pleasebcome by and watch a few. BTW This is my last video I released: ua-cam.com/video/dHA-2blbX3k/v-deo.html
I never had saw this till today. My 667 8 pill sleeper. I love but i would like to get the texas star buttons and meter in the case. The buttons i think is doable the meter not so much. If i cut the board like what you did there and flip the switches up side down and move the lens as needed it may fly. For sure they wont fit the right way.
yes you should, to show that you are making everything from scratch it's amazing. not precut copper board everything hand made. And doing 530 bird watts and over a kw pep with 2 mrf455's driving a 4 pill is pretty amaizing!!!!!!!!!!
thanks a lot brother. yeah it feels better when you do build one from scratch like that. it for sure takes more time but it is worth it in the end. one day i will make my own case as well. like mr. Tech Nine does. well see how it goes.

Beautiful sleeper box Gatekeeper ! It's amazing how these boxes perform. Gatekeeper....I have been totally re-doing a DX 350 HDV Texas Star and it powers up, has receive pass through and dial watt functions that work. The relay keys up along with the LED on the meter, yet the amp meter does not show any sign of OUTPUT. I have capacitive trimmers on the input and output transformers with a value of 280 pf. My bench watt meter shows 40 watts on the 1000 watt scale. I am using a variable power set at Two watts on my radio and 14 volts power to the amp. All parts on the amp have been replaced including the transformers and two tochiba 2879's pills. I am also using a 50 ohm dummy load. Can you tell me why I am not seeing a good output on the ( onboard amp meter ) and on my bench wattmeter ? At least all the functions are working, but would like to see this working to its peak. Thanks, Billy....Albq. N.M. 1 /27 / 2023
Last things I would check are the capacitors ontop of the transformers and as far as the input and output caps go you should be able to use what it calls. Since Texas Stars are all etched boards the tuning is the same and doesn't need to be fine tuned usually but under social circumstances.....look up the schematics ans follow the values for the input and output hope that helps buddy
Actually, Gate Keeper you ought to make videos showing every step of building linear amplifiers from start to finish showing every detail. You won't be loosing any business. It is time you passed on some of that knowledge to people that want to learn. Now.... that is what I would like to see you do, sometime soon. Billy.....Albuquerque NM
