That’s great. Garmin always makes great gear in general. It will also be good even when it’s foggy out on the water. You did a great job installing it and Garmin is doing a great job to keep u safe at all times now. Be safe
You are right thanks Will 👍⚓
Looks like it works great. Now you won't be concerned moving the boat in fog or at night. Nice unit and I like it uses the garmin display and doesn't require a separate one of it's own.
yes this is a dream for low visibility navigation
Nice Job! You will love it! Here on the Chesapeake Bay if its a flat calm you can pick up crab pot floats at night! Keep playing with it you will learn a lot!
Thanks for sharing!
That's an awesome feature for when it's calm waters, definitely is going to be a lot easier for me to navigate when I can't see out.
Thanks captain👍👍
Wow, Captain!! You could have really used that on your night in Bimini when the storms came up, and you had to move.......using your light! This takes the anxiety of having to move during a storm. I'm very happy for you. Calm seas to you, my friend.
You're so right Joe that was one of my scariest moments to move by boat at night time if I had this tool then I would have felt more comfortable.
But now I'm ready thank you for watching Joe
Nice video Cap and very informative. Don't know what else you can do to your boat to make it better. Looks like you have it all. Looking forward to your next trip. Be safe Cap.
Soon I will surprise you with one more thing that I'm thinking of installing in my crooked Pilot house I don't think you have an idea but you'll see it first
Nice job. Glad you covered the rain. That will be more pronounced offshore. Good job on the selection and DYI installation.
Thank you Clarence I really appreciate your great comment and yes on the Open Sea you be able to see the rain clouds a lot easier since there's no obstructions.
Thank you for watching my videos captain👍😁⚓⚓⛵
Out On The Reef Just FYI, you’ll be able to see the actual rain return not the clouds. Pretty cool to see it on radar and be able to avoid if practical.
@@CW-qt1qv yes and you can see which way they're coming that's an awesome tool
Clean boat and clean video great editing. Thanks for posting your projects I am enjoying them.
Awesome Jeff thank you for watching my channel.
Navigate safe Cap.
I am also looking for more video content on using the bird finding feature as it pertains to fishing, I know albacore schools tend to draw flocks of birds, that's half the reason I went with this Garmin that has the doppler feature. At 12:50 you pointed out some rain which is another great reason to go with a doppler unit, you should be able to see weather approaching from 50 miles away! Pretty awesome setup you have there. Clean setup.
i agree the doppler effect is the most important thing for me that i navigate far cap.
Looking forward to seeing some more weather activity on the display, that is a great tool at your disposal.
Thanks Glenn and yes when I'm an open ocean I be able to see thunderstorms in boats on the vicinity.
I will keep you updated captain
@@OutOnTheReef negative ,weather would not be displayed . A GXM 54 antenna must be installed..(600 $ ) with SiriusXM coverage subscription ..like 50 a month .The only thing we can see without this weather device is rain clutter but not tracking information :(
@@PedroRodriguez-ui6pq yes that's the only thing I could do, but remember this radar is different than yours this one has the Doppler effect
@@OutOnTheReef Hummmm maybe you will be able to see little more rain information since is more new radar..remember to update you GPS unit with radar on!!!
@@OutOnTheReef Just saw this " Doppler effect to detect and highlight targets moving toward you or away from you in different colors to help avoid collisions, find flocks of birds and track weather. Dual range shows close and long range split screen images at the same time, using a single antenna"
im very satisfied with you radar beginning from installation until the testing no thing can escape from you radar.very accurate no doubt to move at night.thanks captain you inspired me.keep up upcoming video.have nice day captain💪👍
Thank you Captain really appreciate it and have a great night
Great video and demo. Exactly what I was looking for. I really enjoy your content.
Thank you so much Sam For your positive feedback and also for watching my channel captain navigate safe
I’m looking at the same radar you have the best video on it👍👍👍
Thank you Jason I'm glad you liked it and it helped you for your future installation and thank you for watching
Nice demo, I just ordered the same unit and a Garmin 942 Chartplotter. It’s my first radar, so your demo will be helpful.
Excellent Christopher you going to love it and if you have any questions I'm here to help.👍⚓
Nice job with the radar. Stay safe until next time.
Thank you Rodney and yes till the next time captain thank you for watching
Great video, Capt. This radar will help you stay safer on your trips. Stay safe, mi hermano.
Thank you Ray and yes I will make a lot safer my trips thank you for watching.
Y saludos cap.😉
I’m in the process of adding radar to my proline for Lake Michigan. I ended up going with the furuno drs4w and furuno gp1871f gps instead of the garmin
That is an awesome radar too captain I hope you like it
Nice job on the install captain👌, it’s working perfectly
Thanks dave👍⚓⛵
Capt, your like a kid in a candy store. It looks sharp and I bet you can’t wait for your next adventure!
Yes Kevin you know me so well captain and yes I'm dying to use it on my next trip I will keep you updated😉👍⚓⛵
Sounds good, always interested Capt!
Hi OOTR, I'm late viewing this one; I've been 'incapacitated' the past week and could not get videos. Great job on the Garmin Radar!
Thanks Andrew I love the way you operate it's an awesome tool
Okay-One more question sir-Will you be doing a full up to date tour of your boat one of these days ? You have her set up absolutely great and I/We/Us could use it as a sales tool to the family/Momma so to speak!
One day I'll make the video right now I'm still doing more installations to it
Another great video. Thank you!
Thank you for watching Mike
Cool video, nice to see how it all works.
Thank you for watching Mike
Nice radar!you needed that!
Yes i doo ,thanks for watching 2fast
Very nice video , Thank you for all the info on your radar .
Anytime Raphael and thank you for watching captain.😉⛵👍
Thank you Capt. Your videos have been a God send. Thank you also for sharing & teaching so many of us new /previously boaters so we re-learn can learn again . You videos give me hope.
God Bless
Thank you Deborah and you're awesome for watching my channel, this is a community that we all learn from each other, thanks for watching
Great addition to your boat. Do you think she is now complete? I would say not, when you own a boat there is always something to add on! What model Garmin is your chart plotter? Again, great job Captain!
Thank you Captain but I'm not done yet I got something else to surprise you with soon.
Thanks for this radar install/instruction video. Just purchased and installed a Garmin Fantom 18x this weekend. This is my first opportunity to have radar. I noticed a hum in dome when I had the transmit turned off. Do you know if yours does this as well? Wondering if I need to hook it up to a switch so I don’t drain my batteries when I’m not using the radar. Thought the MFD controlled the power consumption…
Congrats Andrew i haven't herd mine since im inside the pilothouse and yes is better to cut the power off wen not in use, i always cut the power of wen i store my boat after a foshing trip. Navigate safe cap
Great video!!! I envy you!!! 💪🏻
You can do it! thanks Cap,😉👍👍
good video as usual!!! Looking to see more inf about MARPA ( mini auto radar plotting AiD ) I think you will need a heading sensor ( 129 $) connected to you Nmea 2000 but will give you a more precise collision avoidance and radar target information..I recently installed in my old garmin radar GMR 41 and is showing things I never though I can see..is really cool ...I have two 7610 xvs gps
Let me know if you have that option available should be in you GPS settings !!!
I will have to look into it that sounds like a good tool to have thank you Pedro
Great video as always keep up the great work
Thanks D 👍👍
Great Video Cap!
Thanks Chris thank you for watching
Another great one....thanks for sharing...
Anytime thank you for watching
That is really neat! Ive wondered how those work
Thank you Captain and later on the future I'll show you more when I'm in my trips
thank you for your help
Anytime and thanks for watching
Thanks for showing this, I've just put and order in for one. Question for you though...are you running a heading sensor. I'm guessing you might be considering the raymarine heading display. I don't recall you saying.
for now im using Garmin because is easy to use , maybe in the future, thanks for watching Cap.
Well done. Its a great tool. Wish I could do it to my boat too 😅
At least now you know how to install it you can save some money that way👍⚓
Wow that's a must have
This is awesome because at night time or when it's raining you can see everything with it is awesome I love it
Nice new addition. Congratulations
Thank you DD👍😉
Dang cap, that resolution is awesome 🤙
Thank you Captain really appreciate your positive comment👍👍
Good video hermano, the install vid 2
Thanks Kevin it was a lot of work but it was done the best i could, thanks for watching, goodnight Hermano😉👍
Nice !! You should install that new sionyx night vision camera that just came out !
In the future I'll probably do something like that
? - What do u think about a radar reflector to allow another boat to better see ur boat? Like the fast-moving ferry boat in one of your videos. Think ill be getting one for the 22, since its fiberglass mostly, to better show up on the radar of another boat especially in poor conditions like rain or waves.
never seen that captain and i dont know how it looks like
enjoy your new toy captain , I think you need to reduce the radar sensitivity so it will show the lands, and other boaters.
I think you're right I have not messed with the settings yet but I'll do that soon as I have more practice thanks for the recommendation captain
Maybe im late , but i see a nice color on the boat ! What color did you run on the hull capt? Great how too, thanks capt
Light blue and thank you for watching
Another great video.. Thank you. By any chance do you know Total height to top a radar Off concrete driveway?
Thanks and is about 8 .1/2 feet cap
But when you're on the move the bow races higher
I jealous of your electronics and windless, lol. Would love to add new ones to mine but the funds are not available right now. Congratulations on the successful radar install and test. What’s that white mount for on top of your helm? By the way, I made a crappy vid for you of my Bimini and stuff and posted it to my channel. Keep the vids coming, loving your 2120.
That is a gimball holder made of a beach umbrella anchor lol
Nice radar, I'm glad you have the mask off🤣👍Breathe nice free healthy fresh air🍺
Thanks Dean for watching cap.
Too cool!
Thanks cap.😉👍
How small of an object can it pick up? During lobster season there are many lobster traps out and they are hooked up to very small floats with rope. The floats are only 12-24" long
small floats it barely picks it up cap thy have to be bigger to be read by the radar cap, and i too hate those lobster Floats🤣
Does it improve the quickness /accuracy of the heading or do you still need the heading sensor with it?
I don't think so ,in my case it works perfect cap.
Yes I was able to watch the it's nice.
Thanks for taking your time to watch my video captain👍😉😁⚓
Just installed the same rdar. Hoping it is able to pick up bouies from fishing nets when im trolling for salmon.
If is the size of a small crop pot i will not but if they are bigger yes cap. And navigation at night now you will love it cap.👍
@@OutOnTheReef The bouies they use over here en Denmark and Sweeden are useually bigger than the ones on crabpots, so i think its gonna be fine.
@Kaptajn1eye yes you may read those cap. Navigate safe cap
? - Can you set the radar to sound alarm in case of sudden collision course with another boat?
Yes i know is a feature i just dont know how to get it set up, but it is a feature , also it has a alarm if someone is approaching you while at anchor
I am trying to get my radar imaging on my new GMR Fantom 18 to show just like yours, but I seem to always have way too much clutter. Can you share your settings please? I did not see where you adjusted your setting to get such clarity in your radar imaging unless I missed it.
There is a settings that you can adjust your clutter cap from high to low that will be available at the Radar settings cap. I hope this helps
@@OutOnTheReef is the setting actually called "clutter"? And go in the lower direction? My images look like big blobs with no clear shape at all.
@@davidlane2006 try other settings i dont quite remember off my head but i know one of those settings help a lot cap you just have to play with it cap.
Any reason why echo trails are not being displayed on the moving boats?
I'm not sure in this video but in future videos it does work
Came back to watch this video since I just purchased and installed the Fantom 18X plus external 24xd antena with heading sensor, after calibration the heading on the antena bring down the gps error from 18 to 2.5...and update software and map to be centered..Now my question, to be honest precipitation and weather are confusing with structure, Podrias decirme tus settings to pick up weather..La razon principal que compre este radar es para detectar weather...Gracias..( te acordaras la tormenta que me cojio en Bimini ..lol )
Awesome
Cap, will this cause a lot more power usage at night for your batteries?
Hello Shawn and this only draws 40 Watts of power and I have the generator running at night so I can charge the batteries if I want that will be no problem
Is your screen a dedicated radar screen or is it a GPSMAP chartplotter?
is a GPS map chart plotter cap
...WOW...!!! nobody should be able to sneak up on you..lol. and it will keep you safe from running aground or colliding with another vessel...great vid..be safe..
Yes it's more security Now, especially navigating at night time or during storms.
Thanks for watching captain
Nice job
Thank you Captain thank you for watching
nice capt aprende mas del radar para que pongas mas videos y asi cuando me compre el mio ya lo se usar
y en esa agua no hay que preocuparse por flushar el motor
@@DeepBlueChannelCom si es aqua dulce no salada👍⚓
I know you can set a proximity alarm with the radar but no sleeping on your way to Bimini now!
Are you sure I can't sleep because I can set the alarm so I can avoid the big freighters lol
Hey, if you see a bunch of birds can you make a video on your bird mode on your radar? Thanks
I have seen them if there are a lot of them but if it's just a few Birds far away it doesn't reach them it has to be a large crowd
I wonder if you turn your gain up manually if it would then pick them up better?I’m just bought a garmin with fantom radar. I really want to learn that bird mode... where there are birds there are fish. Thanks for the reply
@@duanehankins7077 yes I agree they'll be some top fish like Mahi and tuna I heard a lot of fisherman use the radar for that is awesome but I have never used it for that
If you can't see because of fog, wouldn't you be wanting to run slow?
And every occasion when you can see the best days to slow down as much as you can that's the safe way to go
that looks like a fresh water lake. Okachobee?
no but very close cap.
Can't wait to see. But can't right now.
Wash it later and let me know how you like it
Wait till you use it for birds bro !! Ocean city md !!!
Thank you Tim I'm looking forward to it thanks for watching
Saludos
Buenas noche capitan👍
capi! i wish someone would do this for the simrad 3g.. great vid
Thank you Captain and yes hopefully one day you can do it is very simple just takes a little time
How fast is your boat with the 200 Yamaha
When I purchase the boat without any installation of any equipment I was doing 41 tops but after I started adding weight to it refrigeration air conditioning extra batteries extra anchor Grill and a lot of other accessories my speed came down to 36 miles per hour max but I don't run at that speed I always run at 27 miles per hour wish that's my cruising speed and best fuel economy so even if the boat when 50 miles per hour I will not run at that speed since I need to conserve fuel
Out On The Reef I’m the same way got to conserve the fuel
Part of "Navigate Safe" is your Garmin system. Nice.
Captain, can you do an episode where a national quarantine goes into effect and you escape on your boat? How do you survive for 3 weeks at sea. What weapons and provisions.
I can survive at sea for probably two weeks if I rush in my food.
And that's an awesome idea I would look forward to that sounds like a movie LOL
@@OutOnTheReef you'd get some major hits on your channel if you title it "How to escape the coming Coronavirus quarantine by boat".
@@elmatador6589 LOL yes that sounds like a crazy trip he'll be a lot of viewers on that.😉
Chris over at Peak Prosperity channel has some very good info on what's in the pipeline. He has a PhD in Virology and is a great resource.
4 or 6 kw ?
4kw
@@OutOnTheReef Actually I believe it is a 40 w not 40 kw. Did you look into the safety aspects for people onboard of transmitting at lower wattage (40 w vs. 40 kw)?
@@pacedge123 thanks Greg and no I haven't👍👍
$135 for a plastic piece? Aka wedge. I think I can make one out of starboard for almost free.
i though about making one but did not had the tools
Love EVERYTHING about the show, but not the mask!
Thanks for the suggestion cap.😉🙂👍👍
