Hi do you have a plate mounted underneath your Antenna mounting bracket? I mounted mine using a Shakespeare phase III and the roof flexes a little bit when it moves back and forth.
Really doubt that radar has bird mode it's too small. radar's ability to resolve small moving objects is dependant on the distance between array. this is why you see 48" open arrays on 24' center consoles. Not saying it can't be done with that radar just that it probably doesn't have bird mode, you'll have to tune it in manually.
@@OutOnTheReef Never said it wouldn't just said it probably doesn't have "bird mode", I'm sure you can manually tune it to see birds out to maybe 2 miles of a very flat day. I used a 24" analog Radome to find birds for years, but man it's a lot easier now.
hello cap and im sorry amazon had me removed them and i have no way to get that cap im sorry, but my recommendation is buy a lot of them and keep the one you need and send back the ones you dont use cap, hope this helps.
Cap can u see the birds with ur radar? i read that the newer domes like ur garmin fantom are powerful. While crossing the stream seeing a flock could mean a school of bait with a wahoo or mahi lurking below, if not too far off the heading, would nav that way do some trolling.
Finally attempted my install today. Everything went perfect and I used this video the entire time! Only issue I had was the factory bolts were too short with the Radar wedge. I’m having a hard time finding the Allen rod bolts. Which bolts did you use ?
awesome Jared , and you had the same problem then me , the bolts ware small, and i placed the link of the big bolts i used in the description below, it took me a long time to find them, hope it helps cap, thanks for watching👍👍
X-O-LENT installation!! Only two issues - 1) You voided the warranty by installing your own fuse block (modifying the mfgr's equipment, but being Garmin you probably won’t have any problems. 2) Did you seal the through bolts at the top to wedge and the unit to wedge?? What’s the range of that unit??
Out On The Reef Sounds like you’re going to need about a 30’ tuna tower!! Hahaha Actually, if you’re getting 1-2 miles at surface, you’re good. You should get a 24 mile sweep for weather, if that’s what the unit is rated for. Again, good job!!
@@michaelrutledge7048 LOL yes a tuna Tower will be awesome but apparently since I tow my boat I don't think that will be possible but thanks for the great idea cap.
Out On The Reef You could always install a breakdown (hinged) tower or upper station on it. Hey, look what showed up on my yt this morning. ua-cam.com/video/9jF8qBViyYM/v-deo.html
Wished I saw this before I installed my Garmin Fantom radar and didn't drill a 1 1/4" hole,,but did put a gromit in the hole, Very well done video,, Also you had the pliers or purchase them too
Hey Capt I'm not sure I'm not a garmin tech but from side view it look to me like your beam angle in directed towards the downward angle. You might want to check into the wedge maybe should be turn around to get a little up angle thanks just saying that is what it looks like to me JT 🇺🇸🐟🎣🌴🛥⛱😃😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I understand your recommendation but when you see the video when operates I have a Drone footage will show you that the Raider is level when the boat is in operation and when it's not it will be a little bit inclined down but that's what the manufacturer recommends to have on a boat like mine
Out On The Reef I got it now I believe that has bird function on my boat that would have to work find working birds find fish the only marlin I've ever had on and I did rookie mistake after he jump and I know better you know what it was ? Yep tighten the drag stupid stupid stupid I have a tld 25 w 40 lb mamoi high vis yell 700 yds 2100 ft don't don't don't touch drag once you have on fish you can chase him down down in Islamorada I cried live and learn but I knew already JT
@@hookednrolling2009 well Captain sorry to hear that that was a big loss but I'm glad you had the moment at least. And yes I believe it has the bird capability
Since the Raider has a 4 degree inclination the horn does not even touch the beam so there's no need to move it if I put a parallel I will need to move it but it's an inclination that it doesn't interfere with it
I am also considering the purchase and installation of the Fantom 18 radar. It appears you are routing the radar cable along the same route to your panel as your VHF antenna cable. Do you have any interference between the Radar and VHF? While reading the installation instructions for the Fantom 18, Garmin suggests routing the radar cable away from the VHF antenna.
Nice install. My only question is if you considered adding a radar mount to raise it about 8” or so? I see the mount that came with it has a built in wedge to it. Asking because as you know, your head is above the pilot house roof when standing on the rear deck. If you ever do that, I really like the stainless Battlewagon ones. Powder coat ones usually go bad. Boat is looking good.
Thank you Captain in the reason I didn't use a pedestal for the Raider it's because I don't like the way it looks and yes the higher the better but when mine is running I'm not going to be fishing in the back of the deck my Raiders only going to be running when I'm inside the Pilot House to avoid exposure to the radar
Out On The Reef I agree with the look of the raised mount on the 2120’s. It looks a little funny for some reason when they are raised. It does look great flush mounted. I had a custom Bimini made for mine that connects to the cabin via a....I’ll call it a dodger. The way you use your boat I think you would love it. It keeps the sun out of the back ind helps keep it cool and give a place to stand/sit under while on deck while being able to still handle lines. Wish I could share some pics. Maybe I could add it to my uTube channel for you? I’m not good at it like you though. Great to see another 2120 guy making the most out of their boat. Hope to splash mine towards the end of March sometime.

I am thinking of doing the same install - is it necessary to create that ethernet end or was that just because you had too much wire and wanted to size it down?
You can keep the wire the reason I cut it is because I did not want to open a huge hole on the fiberglass but if you don't mind opening a big hole on the fire in the grass you don't have to cut the cable captain this wrap it up and put it somewhere hope this helps
@@johnnygervais3499 usually the ones that show up fist wen you hit the link without changing the size is that one cap. i made this video years ago so i dont remember of my head cap.
Hello I have question. I'm also planning to install same radar and garmin gps. Is there are any other accessories that I need to buy? Other than radar and gps unit.
Captain, I noticed that you have the light and horn right behind the radar. Does that affect the functionality of the radar? The Garmin instructions say that you need 40" all around which I think is insane! All boats I have seen do not leave or have that space. My plan is to install it behind a searchlight but raised right above. It will have a VHF Antenna to the right, GPS Antenna to the left and the anchor light behind. I don't want to spend the $ if it will not work right but struggle to see all boats with even less space than mines and they do have the radar.
they don't affect the reading of the radar i even have the rod holders like 24 inches in the back and i dont see a problem with that cap. hope you have a great install this is a great navigation equipment⚓😉👍
@@OutOnTheReef Thank you! I have another dilemma with the install of the searchlight. Have you done any videos or how can I reach out with a question and a picture?
@@mariodebarros8519 you can upload the picture to your UA-cam channel and send me the link and I can look at it or a small video with the question captain
@@mariodebarros8519 thanks for the upload I seen a lot of boats with the search light in front of the radar even installed by the factory but the search light is small not huge, in your case i would install with stainless steel bolts or weld a aluminum plate and then install the radar but if you have a big bow rise i would recommend a wedge with the degree needed that would help the reception wile on the way cap. I hope the best for your install. And i place the link of the wedge i use in the description below if you need the same one👍👍⚓
Great great job--I’m happy you finally own that now.thats a very awesome thing to have when conditions go rotten on you out there. I see some comments on caulking that base to the roof and I agree totally.you may also want to add stainless finishing washers to the bolt heads on the inside of the cabin. Those bolts looked like you had JUST enough to make the connection but those finishing washers are countersunk so you should still be ok making the connection.also the heads of the bolts are damn near the same size as the holes you drilled so with time you could put a lot of pressure on those 4 contact points. Washers will transfer more strength to the ceiling of that pilot house and keep it much stronger.I know you don’t want to draw a lot of attention with the hardware on the ceiling but it will look more than fine.most importantly it will add strength and hold up to the pounding of the water and wind load on the dome.---it won’t take much time-do one at a time and it’ll be easy. Congrats on that addition man.like I told you months ago-your gonna love having that the first time fog rolls in on you👊🏻
That's an awesome idea Captain I did not think of that I just went with the washer they Supply me with but you know companies don't give you exactly what you need and yes it will be a lot stronger for pounding the ways I agree with you 100% captain and thank you for the great suggestion good looking out. Hi do you have a plate mounted underneath your Antenna mounting bracket? I mounted mine using a Shakespeare phase III and the roof flexes a little bit when it moves back and forth.
I am using a wedge for the radar and I placed the link in the description below captain hopefully this will help
Nice video 👌
Where do you fint the 4% braket ? And What do you Call it ?
@@jrgenj.7604 is called Radar wedge cap. And thank you for watching
Great job on the installation cap, this is going to be awesome for you 🤙
Thank you Captain and yes I think is going to be a great Improvement for navigation when you can't see out your window at the Pilot House
Excellent job captain can't wait to see how it works.
Thanks captain and yes soon i will upload the video showing you how works
Can you see weather close by or only at a distance? Close by is 2-3 miles.
yes and as fat as 20 miles i have seen bad weather cap.
Very nice I hope you use the bird feature to catch dolphin and tuna when you’re in those blue waters.
Lol yes cap , I still have a lot of learning to do about fishing😉
Really doubt that radar has bird mode it's too small. radar's ability to resolve small moving objects is dependant on the distance between array. this is why you see 48" open arrays on 24' center consoles. Not saying it can't be done with that radar just that it probably doesn't have bird mode, you'll have to tune it in manually.
@@rsdna9698 in the next video you'll be surprised captain when I try the writer you'll see if it catches bird or not
@@OutOnTheReef Never said it wouldn't just said it probably doesn't have "bird mode", I'm sure you can manually tune it to see birds out to maybe 2 miles of a very flat day. I used a 24" analog Radome to find birds for years, but man it's a lot easier now.
@@rsdna9698 yes cap.
Good morning! I am getting ready to complete this install on a 2320, do you mind sharing the details on what bolts you used?
hello cap and im sorry amazon had me removed them and i have no way to get that cap im sorry, but my recommendation is buy a lot of them and keep the one you need and send back the ones you dont use cap, hope this helps.
Here is a vide showing what amazon did cap.ua-cam.com/video/BwmnwXbRrxc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Great detail. Very thorough.
Think of Michael it was hard work but it was worth it especially making the video and thank you for watching Captain.
Cap can u see the birds with ur radar? i read that the newer domes like ur garmin fantom are powerful. While crossing the stream seeing a flock could mean a school of bait with a wahoo or mahi lurking below, if not too far off the heading, would nav that way do some trolling.
Yes it is one the radar features
Finally attempted my install today. Everything went perfect and I used this video the entire time! Only issue I had was the factory bolts were too short with the Radar wedge. I’m having a hard time finding the Allen rod bolts. Which bolts did you use ?
awesome Jared , and you had the same problem then me , the bolts ware small, and i placed the link of the big bolts i used in the description below, it took me a long time to find them, hope it helps cap, thanks for watching👍👍
Looks very professional!!
Thank you LB7😉👍
Great job ...professional as usual.
Thank you Sheila 👍👍⚓👊
beautiful boat
Thanks Rob and thanks for watching cap 👍
Very well done! Congrats.
Thanks cap.⚓⚓
X-O-LENT installation!! Only two issues - 1) You voided the warranty by installing your own fuse block (modifying the mfgr's equipment, but being Garmin you probably won’t have any problems. 2) Did you seal the through bolts at the top to wedge and the unit to wedge?? What’s the range of that unit??
Yes i did cap. Thanks
And the range not sure but i think is like 24 miles but you need alot of altitude of radar to get that distance
Wished I saw this before I installed my Garmin Fantom radar and didn't drill a 1 1/4" hole,,but did put a gromit in the hole, Very well done video,, Also you had the pliers or purchase them too
I purchase the pliers at Amazon I place the link in the description below if you want to check it out.
Hope you like your new Garmin Fantom
And yes I believe it has the bird capability
very nice captain; what are going to do with the horn now, are you planning on moving it to the side?
Since the Raider has a 4 degree inclination the horn does not even touch the beam so there's no need to move it if I put a parallel I will need to move it but it's an inclination that it doesn't interfere with it
Nice neat install. Looks great.
Glad you like it👍⚓
I am also considering the purchase and installation of the Fantom 18 radar. It appears you are routing the radar cable along the same route to your panel as your VHF antenna cable. Do you have any interference between the Radar and VHF? While reading the installation instructions for the Fantom 18, Garmin suggests routing the radar cable away from the VHF antenna.
No captain I don't have a problem at all with the VHF radio and the radar
I found your Amazon link for the Bolts, What size bolts did u use ???
In the link i listed all the bolts that i used cap

@@OutOnTheReef Thanks for your quick reply! Makes sense. I will have a challenge with threading the wires through my tower and up to the helm.

Hello I have question. I'm also planning to install same radar and garmin gps. Is there are any other accessories that I need to buy? Other than radar and gps unit.
the wedge helps level the radar wen on the way cap. ad longer bolts and i placed the links in the description below cap. hope it helps
@@OutOnTheReef captain. Thank you. I just ordered my units. Now I will have 2nd eyes. 😀 Do you like it so far?
Captain,
I noticed that you have the light and horn right behind the radar.

@@mariodebarros8519 thanks for the upload
I seen a lot of boats with the search light in front of the radar even installed by the factory but the search light is small not huge, in your case i would install with stainless steel bolts or weld a aluminum plate and then install the radar but if you have a big bow rise i would recommend a wedge with the degree needed that would help the reception wile on the way cap.
I hope the best for your install.
And i place the link of the wedge i use in the description below if you need the same one👍👍⚓

Hi captain nice video and nice and clean installation good job brother now I can’t wait to see the new video haw works 🎼🎶🎊🎺🌅🙏dtb
Thanks Ramon and yes it's a great upgrade for my boat and soon I will upload video of the operation
Hi captain, the gmr 18 HD is cheaper than gmr Fantom, do you know which one is the difference because I want to install that in my boat, thanks
Hello cap. Great you ask well the difference is huge the warming up is seconds instead of a minute and the Doppler Effect shows you ware the otem is moving towers you or away feom you that goes the same for storms and another thing it reads closer then the gmr 18 and that os great for markers at night time , if you go with the Famtom you will always be happy you made that choice, is better if you can spend a little more and get the most advanced technology cap.
