    Very professional install! This is one of the best 'How-to' videos on UA-cam! In my video where I was showing what was behind the 'cover-plates' in the back of the pilot house, whoever installed my radar just bundled all of the excess wires back there; lazy on their part!.. LOVE your 'helper'; beautiful puppy! (and very funny ☺)...

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  4 роки тому +1

      Yes some installers are lazy to do connection so they just bundle everything up and hide it but as voters me and you we know the less weight on the boat the better and that electrical cord weighs almost 15 lb that you don't.
      And thank you for your coming about my puppy yes she's very helpful but she didn't have thumbs LOL thank you for watching Cap.

      You're right the Crooked by the house is almost 90% complete.
      I'm still adding more things to it I think I'm going to sink it if I keep adding weight to it LOL

    A Cable Clam on the Hardtop would allow the cables to be waterproof and able to remove the cables with the RJ45 ends still on....Saves time and money done the road when the radar needs to be removed for repair or damage. I use them all the time coming behind installs that use those stupid stainless clam shell and Gobs of silicone.

      In my case it's very easy to change that cable I just run it Through the TikTok it only takes me 10 minutes to run that cable it's not a big problem captain the less connections you have the better the radar would read the more you split it the more frequency you will lose

    Just ordered a new 2320. I'm installing all the electronics myself to give me more options and to save a few bucks. I'm thinking about maybe going with a 24" Phantom rather than the 18". Do you ever have any regret going with the smaller version? Personally I'm like you, I don't like the look of a raised dome so I'm not too sure I will be happy with a larger one either. Velcro was a great option since your assistant was missing thumbs, lol. I watched the next video you made as well, looks like you'll get a lot of use.
    I'm in Washington where it never stops raining. I picked up a 5 inch riser to get the dome up a bit, I'll be honest the waterproofing looks like it might be good for Florida but I'm not sure about the conditions here. I probably worry too much. Really doubt that radar has bird mode it's too small. radar's ability to resolve small moving objects is dependant on the distance between array. this is why you see 48" open arrays on 24' center consoles. Not saying it can't be done with that radar just that it probably doesn't have bird mode, you'll have to tune it in manually.

    X-O-LENT installation!! Only two issues - 1) You voided the warranty by installing your own fuse block (modifying the mfgr's equipment, but being Garmin you probably won’t have any problems. 2) Did you seal the through bolts at the top to wedge and the unit to wedge?? What’s the range of that unit??

I had a custom Bimini made for mine that connects to the cabin via a....I’ll call it a dodger. The way you use your boat I think you would love it. It keeps the sun out of the back ind helps keep it cool and give a place to stand/sit under while on deck while being able to still handle lines. Wish I could share some pics. Captain,
    I noticed that you have the light and horn right behind the radar. Does that affect the functionality of the radar?
    The Garmin instructions say that you need 40" all around which I think is insane! All boats I have seen do not leave or have that space.
    My plan is to install it behind a searchlight but raised right above. It will have a VHF Antenna to the right, GPS Antenna to the left and the anchor light behind.
    I don't want to spend the $ if it will not work right but struggle to see all boats with even less space than mines and they do have the radar.

    • @OutOnTheReef

    Great great job--I’m happy you finally own that now.thats a very awesome thing to have when conditions go rotten on you out there.
    I see some comments on caulking that base to the roof and I agree totally.you may also want to add stainless finishing washers to the bolt heads on the inside of the cabin. Those bolts looked like you had JUST enough to make the connection but those finishing washers are countersunk so you should still be ok making the connection.also the heads of the bolts are damn near the same size as the holes you drilled so with time you could put a lot of pressure on those 4 contact points. Washers will transfer more strength to the ceiling of that pilot house and keep it much stronger.I know you don’t want to draw a lot of attention with the hardware on the ceiling but it will look more than fine.most importantly it will add strength and hold up to the pounding of the water and wind load on the dome.---it won’t take much time-do one at a time and it’ll be easy.
