Thanks @PegasusBlack for introducing Andy to Nightwish music! From what I've seen, he has a superior understanding of music composition so he has the potential to become a fan of this band.
no offense to Amy Lee of evanescence , I really like them but nightwish and Floor are not only on a different planet, they are in complete different galaxy compared to evanescence...
"The Note was heard" !!!!! Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. The master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. NWSU.
To the comparison to Amy Lee, I would like for you to hear Romantcide, from the same concert, where Floor and Marco, bassist, do something that I don'r think Amy could do😊 (Amy is also a great singer and I really like what she does in Evanessence( is this spelled right😅)
@Karl Jensen Having just seen Amy Lee last year...no way she can touch Floor's vocals. I like Evenessence back in the day. But, I've seen the live. Absolutely not.
Here in Europe we have scores of female fronted symphonic/progressive metal bands. In the US Amy Lee with her Evanescence is the only kind of point of reference.
This was Waken 2013 live open air music festival. Nightwish were the Headline Band with a crowd of 82k people. You should watch the whole set list at your leisure as none will disappoint. It is one of the Greatest performances ever.
Not only were there 82,000 people at Wacken for this but Nightwish were coming towards the end of a World Tour at this point where they had already played in front of 1.5 MILLION people !
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. This is the Greatest band in the planet lead by the Greatest Volcalist, out Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen, pronounced Yohnsen. I have been blessed to see NightWish live, as well as Sabaton and Epica. Already have tickets for the BabyMetal experience! Nightwish is “Symphonic Metal”. The keyboardist writes everything including the orchestral pieces. He’s a true musician. Floor is a Lyric Opera singer but she can literally sing anything and she even growls. She’s a siren. This concert was her first as an official member of the band.
Thank you for this reaction. I actually almost tear up to see people listening to another kind of music being open to another style and can just enjoy just the music together....music connects if you are open to it. Keep on rockin guys Warm greetings from Switzerland 🤘🏽🔥💯
This guy is IT man lmao THIS is the Metal Head you need during these reactions to actually explain the shit a bit lmao. Bring Andy into all metal reactions!!! lol
Nightwish is almost 30 years old now and still going strong Imagine that! And all 3 vocalists (Tarja, Anette and Floor) they've had are so different and so good 😁
YES! Holy crap I just suggested this recently. Either it's a lucky coincidence or it was a good idea and you're running with it. Either way I'm excited to see what Andiroo thinks.
Yeah P. Bring Andiroo back, You can do what you've been doing with Ren and just react to a track you haven't seen before with him. Though Don might be sad to miss it. But Nightwish don't have any skips.
As a drummer/percussionist for 50 years from orchestra to metal, I can tell you how tricky this drum part is. It's cool that you noticed the time signature changes. Listen a little closer next time and you'll hear a 13/16 time switch for a couple measures, then straight in to 4/4. Very cool.
There are also some odd time signatures (5/8 and 3/4) in this song. For example, here are the intro time signatures, per bar: (6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8) 6 times, then (4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4) 4 times, then steady 4/4 for vocal entry
So, Andy likes technical death metal? You got to show him Sons of Winter and Stars by Wintersun, Sonic Pump Studios live rehearsal version. That is some epic playing and current drummer and bassist of Nightwish play in that too.
Cool guys … Floor opened the Metallica Show these Days in Amsterdam … maybe you are now prepaired for Epica - Sancta Terra. Simone (Vocalist Epica) & Floor are a power pack in Vocals. Should watch this with Andy 😜
FYI NW started as a band before EV, and I have listened to both for about 20yrs, and tho Ev is good, NW is on a whole other level ,lyrically, musicianship, stage ,composition, and supremely, vocals.
One of the details about the video is at the end when floor is bringing it home with the "my fall will be for you" over and over again, you can see kids singing along, but NOT with her, with the choir part. Just....🤯 This band doesn't have fans, it has fanatics.
@@stpfs9281 oh. I still think it's bonkers to memorize a back-up part as well, and then in a live setting, do THAT instead of singing along with the lead. 🤷🏼♂️
Nice reaction after about two second from Andy. What am I hearing here? And that builds very nicely. And that is a mild way to put that. Great reaction guys! 🤘🤘
Just to give chronological context: Evanescence was started 1995, both Nightwish and Trans-Siberian Orchestra were started 1996. 2001 when Evanescence first album came out, Nightwish had released four. This female vocalist, Floor Janssen, is NW third female vocalist and second with a operatic background. Changes in time signatures and smooth transitions are some true characteristics of NW. Andy, you might enjoy Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean by Nightwish 2018 Official Live in Buenos Aires. And they do Celtic-folky-inspired rock as well, like My Walden in Tampere live.
Hello I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter and.....? ( Freja & ...? ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 3 octaves (C3 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she cool singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Guys, info about Floor, she began singing in After Forever She likes to sing high notes. Sings with her sister in Ayreon which is project based prog metal from Arjan Lucassen. Shurely coment on more Nightwish, for instance Yours is an emty hope or Ayreon The day That the wirld breaks down, with 11 singers, characters and all, just listen and let your ears enjoy!
That's cool, Andy, I've been to a bunch of TSO concerts, and Nightwish and TSO do remind me of each other numerous different ways. Very cool reaction. (Also pausing twice in a guitar solo, you trying to get all these metalheads stirred up? LMAO)

I discovered NightWish whilst searching for Amy Lee reactions and this was the 1st song and at first I could see the similarities but by the end I found myself going down the NightWish rabbit hole and after 3 yrs I still haven’t reached the bottom.
So glad to see you reacting to Nightwish. They’re an epic band. Keep having Andy on you show. Not only do enjoy his professional input but he’s so adorable. Glad to see a young person appreciate this. 🥰
If Andy wants to see a technical one. Look up Greatest Show on earth, live at Tampere. Its their homecoming show, and I'll tell you fireworks are part of the pyrotechnics. How he will really like.
Gotta get Sabaton in there next. Floor's husband, Hannes Van Dahl, is the Drummer for them and they primarily write songs based upon historical events so if you're interested in History, they are a must to listen to. My recommendations (in no particular order) would be Christmas Truce, 40-1 Live at Woodstock 2012, Bismarck, 1916 (Motorhead Cover), and En Livstid I Krieg (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg). There are plenty of other gems to listen to in addition to these but those are just ones I'd recommend as a must
Nightwish and symphonic metal are mostly a European thing. There is one major band in the genre from the US, Kamelot. All music and lyrics are written by the keyboardist and Mozart of metal, Tuomos Holopenien. This performance is from the Wacken festival, the largest metal fest in the world, 82,000 people here. Nightwish headlined one night. (3 day fest I think)
Welcome Andy to the best band on Earth, preferably sampled live. At 57, I'd somehow not heard of Nightwish or Floor until then and am now making up for lost time. Floor is the best vocalist that I have ever had the pleasure and privilege to hear. So many more gems for Andy to hear from the bottomless Nightwish treasure chest. Thank you gents. Paul 🙏😊👍❤️
Cool reaction BP and Andy… You should definitely check out Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley… one of the best concert opening songs I’ve ever seen. Riding the Nightwish express. It takes you away. You don’t know where they’ll take you but you know it going to be friggin’ epic.🤘🤘

So great that the festivals and stadium shows are back have my first post covid major show in just 7 weeks time with 60K for MUSE and cannot wait to get back to it. MUSE, ‘Plug in Baby’ at the Rome Olympic stadium would be another classic rock show to dip into in your voyage of discovery.
Thnx 4 this. Go on with the stuff. Welcome to the Nightwish army^^. Please listen to Song of myself at Wacken. And, i am sure this will leave you speachless, the Gratest show on earth at Tampere. Due to Marco's voice , the wiking bassman, give The phantom of the opera a try, the"old" Nightwish singer Tarja will show her quality as well. Peace from Germany and please stay save
I recommend you should react with Andy to the Finnish symphonic death metal band Wintersun with "Son's of Winter and Stars" Live rehearsal at the Sonic Pump Studios!! With a crazy drummer who is now the current drummer of NW and a great bass player who is now also a member of NW!😅🤘
I'm thinking the two of you are in dire need of watching Nightwish "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley. Seriously hard rocking Nightwish. GO FOR IT!
And again 2 souls are taken by our Dutch Valkyrie Goddes of Metal, more Floor Jansen, watch the beste zangers 2019, she sings in different styles and different languages.. She sings O Mio Babbino Caro and from the gamecube game Final Fantasy Chronicals, Sound of the Wind... there is even a video with all the endings of GLS and a video where she even sings the Yellow Pages in a radio-show.. She is working on different projects of Ayreon too, Valley of the Queens and The Day The World Break Down are good ones to start with.. The music on the backtrack is don by the Londen Philharmonic Orchestra, who did the music for the movie's LotR and The Hobbit...
As I always say: The phenomenon of Nightwish and even more Floor Jansen is that they will begin a song on a scale between 0 and 10 on 2 and you will like it. Then they will turn it up to 4 or 5 and you will be amazed. Then you will realize it's only the first third of the song. Then they will do really crazy stuff and push it up unto 8 or 9 and you will fall in love with them. And then they will blow your mind by doing serious music. Like 12.

Argh, you cut off _right_ before Emppu's really good pinch harmonics at the end there when your guest had specifically pointed out how much he loved them... 🥺
Nightwish headlined at Wacken in 2013. Before them was Alice Cooper. Virtually every song is written by Tuomas Holopainen the keyboardist. There are currently 9 albums so over 100 songs plus beautiful instrumental disc. And other music written for other projects. Floor Jansen is probably the most versatile metal singer. Way beyond Amy Lee of Evanescence. By the way Andy talked about pinched harmonics and you cut the song short before some serious pinched harmonics at the end.
It’s Symphonic Metal - Comparing Floor Jansen and Amy Lee is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are exceptionally talented vocalists, but they have their distinct styles and qualities that make any direct comparison nearly impossible. Each artist brings their own unique flavor to the world of music. Floor Jansen’s vocal prowess is truly extraordinary, surpassing all expectations. What’s even more remarkable is that during that particular concert, she battled a fever and relied on medication just to perform. This heightened my admiration for her talent tenfold. When she belted out “Ghost Love Score,” a performance that left us all astounded, she had already been singing for a solid hour! Floor herself revealed that when she stepped onto that stage, her ailment didn’t matter; it was as if her body and voice were guided by an innate muscle memory. There’s simply no one quite like her in the world of music!
I've been clicking through your Nightwish reactions looking for a reaction of a song with Tarja Turunen as lead vocal. "Elvenpath", "End of all hope", and "Bless the Child" are all awesome.
Thanks @PegasusBlack for introducing Andy to Nightwish music! From what I've seen, he has a superior understanding of music composition so he has the potential to become a fan of this band.

Best Live Singer,Best Live band .
Paul 🙏😊👍❤️
Goddess FLOOR 💫💯😍...Yes, it's Truth.
Cool reaction BP and Andy…
You should definitely check out Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley… one of the best concert opening songs I’ve ever seen.
Riding the Nightwish express. It takes you away. You don’t know where they’ll take you but you know it going to be friggin’ epic.🤘🤘
Andy's the first person in my recollection who has made a reference to TSO. Great job picking up on that!!
The greatest song/venue combo on earth.
The Wacken Open Air startet 1990 with 800 people in a little Town call Wacken in Germany , 2013 over 75 000 ( Sold Out ) , Wacken was 2 years cancelt ( Corona ) and 2023 85 000 ( Sold OUT in 1 Day ) play Iron Maiden at the Wacken Open Air as Headliner - Heavy Metal is the Best Music on this Planet
Yep they are, were the headline show
So great that the festivals and stadium shows are back have my first post covid major show in just 7 weeks time with 60K for MUSE and cannot wait to get back to it.
Due to Marco's voice , the wiking bassman, give The phantom of the opera a try,
the"old" Nightwish singer Tarja will show her quality as well.
GO FOR IT!
You are such a joyous ambassador of the music ! TU.
Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish and Floor Jansen, The Goddess Voice of Heaven and Earth. Enjoy your journey.
Andy is great, love the
music thoery talk
I would put money on Andy LOVING Nightwish: Storytime, Romanticide, Yours is an Empty Hope, and High Hopes (Pink Floyd Tribute), among others...
Sub'd in the hope that you guys take the Nightwish journey 🤘
Had the distinct pleasure of geeting to meet Nightwish before a concert. Floor, at around 6 foot, is a Viking goddess with an angelic voice.
Check out Everdream or High Hopes (Pink Floyd tribute) to hear Marko the bass players vocals because they are also insane.
As I always say:
The phenomenon of Nightwish and even more Floor Jansen is that they will begin a song on a scale between 0 and 10 on 2 and you will like it. Then they will turn it up to 4 or 5 and you will be amazed. Then you will realize it's only the first third of the song. Then they will do really crazy stuff and push it up unto 8 or 9 and you will fall in love with them. And then they will blow your mind by doing serious music. Like 12.
Ramp it up!
Seeing reactions to this amazing performance never gets old.
You two need to do Romaticide from the same concert next, VERY metal.
I wonder if Andy deciphered the rhythm at the start of this song. Always great to see all those fans singing along, knowing the lyrics by heart.

This man is casting the nightwish spell on everyone. ❤.
At 6:18 he also fell in love with Floor...
Argh, you cut off _right_ before Emppu's really good pinch harmonics at the end there when your guest had specifically pointed out how much he loved them... 🥺
Pretty disrespectful thing to do on a reaction video anyway
Nightwish headlined at Wacken in 2013. Before them was Alice Cooper. Virtually every song is written by Tuomas Holopainen the keyboardist. There are currently 9 albums so over 100 songs plus beautiful instrumental disc. And other music written for other projects. Floor Jansen is probably the most versatile metal singer. Way beyond Amy Lee of Evanescence. By the way Andy talked about pinched harmonics and you cut the song short before some serious pinched harmonics at the end.
Argh! they missed the last bit!
It’s Symphonic Metal -
Comparing Floor Jansen and Amy Lee is like comparing apples and oranges.
Good one. Floor opened for Metallica last month.
Should have been the other way round.
@@hone-i1d I'll go with that.
