Good review covering some valid points. I've had mine for 7 yrs now and had the swivel hub changed along with some cracked springs/top mounts recently, but the most expense came from a noisy diff bearing that had to be changed, expensive gearbox out job and then clutch changed as it was more cost effective to do it then.
I still forgive it all that when I take it down some twisty B road 😄

I might go have a look at one in person in the next few days that I first saw online with 197k kms on the clock (around 122k miles). The mileage doesn't scare me as long as it's got a well documented history and there's nothing bad on there. Great insight.

Great video mate. I've got an 2011 RS 250 Trophy here in Ausland. I picked it up at a great price as it has over 210Km's on the clock. So far in my ownership it hasn't been too cheap though. Here are the things that have been done from the previous owner and myself...
    1. Clutch & Solid Mass Flywheel at 180km's. Previous owner
    2. Timing belt at 185km's. Previous owner
    3. Replaced AC compressor and condenser at 208km's.
    4. Lower Hub ball joint 211km's.
At this stage I have it booked in for a noisy front end. Some rubber must be split somewhere. The clutch that got replaced rattles like crazy at idle and shudders badly on take off. Thermostat needs to be replaced as I think its stuck open. Rear main seal looks like it needs to be done as well. So will probably just get the clutch and flywheel done at the same time, as the rattling really bothers me a lot. Thankfully I have access to a workshop through family, so must of this stuff will be done by me to drop the labour cost.
I love the car to death, and its such a different beast from my Monaro, which I love in the twisties. But yea I would say, for those that are looking to purchase one of these, really do your research or even better, take someone who's owned one with you to an inspection. These things can add up to be very expensive very quickly if they haven't been maintained. Cheers

What do you mean rattles like crazy at idle? Mine has a little bit of rattling on idle but I need to put my head really close to the front left wheel. Nothing can be heard while sitting in the car.

    Nice guide.
The standard exhaust with a mid section delete (cost me £50) sounds so much better.
The standard seats do look crap but are actually really supportive and comfortable, they actually sit lower than the Recaros too.
Also gearbox mounts are prone to snapping on the 250's and Ph1 265's so definitely something to look out for.
The mileage on yours shows how long they can last if looked after. 👍👍

@@FastandFun StageX Motorsport do and pretty sure some guys on the forums have. It's a bit of a gimmick on the Mk 3 Clio 200 as you can't change the throttle map but really handy that you can in the Megs as Sport/Race are defaulted to extreme throttle map.

I have an RS 250 trophy ( Australian Grand Prix edition). They only made 50 in 2012. It's was a bitch to get first gear when I purchased it. I've gotten used to it now, but I still have to lean on it and hit 2nd before engaging 1st. I can also double clutch.... It's like there's no 1st gear synchro and feels like a crash box. I'm wondering if it might be a gearbox mount.

I agree, the engine is reliable. Had mine from 2013 till now... Yes the suspension is the weak point of this car...

  • @gigantor62

I'd make sure all engine components have been replaced with genuine ( OEM ) parts. Aftermarket parts on the rest of the car are fine....just don't cheap out with aftermarket engine parts.

They are great, firm and supportive but not too hard either. The only tricky bit is getting in/out with their high sided bolsters (hence why they wear heavily on that bolster). Wouldn’t want to be without mine 👍🏻

@@FastandFun Yeah, one of my keys doesnt get recognized when it pushed into its slot. Still works. But ingnition does not work with that key. For now I'll just use the other key.
Other problems i currently face are that both of the doors seem to not close perfectly. I can heard the road through the door next to me. Not sure how i fix that. I think it just happend over time because the doors are so heavy.
And I my turbo wastegate or whatever seems to make weird noises. Only got a regular TCe 130 :( Still it takes 10l/100km. Not far away from something with real power.

Don't listen to this guy. There will not be a single german competitor that will have the slightest chance against any Mégane R.S. model. No matter if its OPC/VXR, RS3, Golf R/GTI, AMG or any other Hot Hatch competitor. The Mégane will eat them all for lunch.
And you obviously have no idea about sound design. This car is one of the least modern cars that have a Unique sound. If you own or owned an Mégane yourself, you would notice it between 100 different cars. This is what makes this car stand out and so special compared to other modern cars
It needs lots of love and you need to know what to do. If you're good to it it will be good to you.

    • @FastandFun
      @FastandFun  7 місяців тому

Do you actually own one? Doesn’t sound like it to me?
The Megane RS is a brilliant handling car, both on track and road, but some of the German hot hatches have serious power advantages that would be much quicker down the straights and ultimately there wouldn’t be much between either, which shows how good the Megane’s are with such a power deficit to the German hot-hatches.
Regarding sound, I’m not sure how you’ve convinced yourself that the Megane’s exhaust (in standard form) is anything but average/quiet. Easily fixed with an after market exhaust but certainly needs modification to get a better sound from the 2.0 turbo.

@@FastandFun you obviously don't know how to use one if you're talking so Derogatory about it. I don't think you ever used it the right way. I have the 265 TCé Phase II model with all Trophy components and no RS3, RS500 (or RS MK3), GTI (or R), GTi (Peugeot), AMG or OPC/VXR could get rid of me. Sometimes I even had my family and purchases in the trunk.
