The final dev blog for the upcoming Dynasty Version of Total War: Pharaoh is here and it goes through some very exciting changes being introduced to the game.
Today I want to do a thorough breakdown of the dev blog, going through each detail from the deities to the changes to legitimacy, royal court and legacies all the way to how family trees and mortality will work. There are still lot's of question marks and of course mechanics that I would have liked to have seen in this update (namely a deeper trading network) but overall there is a lot of cause for positivity in this free update coming to Pharaoh.

Of course while map expansion, new cultures, factions and more historical mechanics are great. I'm still worried about the battles side of things and how the new lethality mechanic especially is going to work. I'm also disappointed that Sofia didn't get a more in depth trading mechanic, one of my biggest gripes with the game that in my opinion could have tied each of the cultures together in a more meaningful way but it is what it is. Let me know what you think in the comments below I'd love to hear your thoughts on all these new and reworked features!
I am really excited for the update. I really enjoyed original Pharaoh and this update is going to really set it off. To me, the battles were one of the best parts of Pharaoh. They were the best battles in Total War in vanilla form I think. All previous titles I mod to slow the pace. Now, with the addition of some cavalry I think more people will find the game enjoyable. I like to adapt to the tactics of the time, which includes what would I do with no cavalry? Great game, I recommend it to all historical players. Plus it's a steal for $40 with dynasties.
This obsession with trade is such a whiny point of yours, if I'm honest.
I don't think it would add anything to the game except free resources every couple of turns
The game is not about maintaining the bronze age balance.
The game is about keeping your butt intact as sea people batter it or taking down the old world in favor of the new
@@kodan7879 You clearly know nothing about history, especially not the late bronze age. The sea peoples didn't come rolling like thunder flattening civilization before them. In reality there were many raids throughout the late bronze age that were barely if at all connected, they appeared over course of lifetimes. Practically no centralised civilization simply fell nor did the trade routes as shown by for example Cyrus' use of them. Stop looking at history at a 4th grade level and maybe sit down and listen & read before talking about it as if you are the grandmaster of it all. The game if realitistic at all would not be about the fall of the old world but about one of many transitions that our civilizations have gone through, nor would it even show these as absolute or nearly as destructive as you seem to be imagining. History is many great things but it is not a fantasy story where the end of the world comes every time we as historians depict an era as an era and the end of one as the beginning of another. These terms are meant to be loosely accepted and usually only exist so we can teach kids about history quickly and efficiently. To put it plainly for you because I'm sure your ego is about start a looping war in your head trying to climb out of its arse; There is no such thing as the "Bronze age collapse" , there never was it's just much easier to call it that than to teach the truth of it in a below university level classroom.

Never was interested in Pharaoh, but then they announced the map expansion which got me interested. Then they announced the battle changes, which got me paying attention. Then they announced the dynasty update, which sold me…I’m very excited to play this as it looks like the Bronze Age game I was finally expecting

CA has historically done well bouncing back from a foot-in-mouth release so I’m hopeful. Agreed on the battle mechanics and needing to get hands on before I’m convinced of anything.
I already like Pharaoh before but now I'm super hyped to get my hands on that update.

the guys were told that their game would fail, their game failed. But they continue to persist. It evokes respect and pity. How did we get to this point? Why Egypt? Why did everything slide down to one Nile Valley?

@@cal2127 strategy games from this developer are very simple. And they have always been sufficient thanks to tactical battles and that's all. So the variety of troops is insanely necessary for the games of the Total War series! And to slide into a full-fledged game in the era of 5 unrealistic engine to such a narrow variety, after all these really total wars from the last decade that were- shame and stagnation! Sales have shown it. But I am sure that the developer will not draw conclusions and accuse us, the players of historical games, that we are bad and will end up in a fantasy setting. And it was only necessary to make 3th game about the Middle Ages! What a sur for me, a person who is not versed in marketing, to understand these obvious things! Do you want ancient Egypt? Play Assassins in Egypt. At least they recreated an entire region from the time of Cleopatra on a scale of 1 to 1. But give us a real Total War! It is possible in the Bronze Age, but much, much more than a just a 1,2 culture!
You people bumped your collective heads. Lazy game? In no other TW game has the direction you expand mattered so much cause not only are factions all unique, towns, resources, etc.....mattered so much for so many different reasons. I ignored this game for nearly a year listening to Steam reviews, but once I got bored and played, I wished I paid full price to support the programming teams effort. I am a old 42 year old gamer who will not see another Empire Scale masterpiece cause the audience doesn't like the current historic area or period. Speaking of period, researching the Peleset this week, I just realized these are Palestinians. I knew that the Palestinians were part of the Sea Peoples invasion but didn't know which group. That said, the entire state of Israel are full tilt liars.
@@cmathews5909I don’t know how much modern Palestinians are related to the Bronze Age Peleset, but they are more related to them than modern day Israeli are to the Bronze Age Israelites, that’s for sure.
If battles get done correctly, this game is gonna become a singularity in the franchise. I'm really hoping it is because the potential for coool mods is great. Just imagine a medieval crusades campaign, I'm salivating 🤤

I bought this game on the last day of the Steam sale, mainly encouraged by the upcoming Dynasties update. Have 10 hours so far and it's good fun. I have a feeling Dynasties will make Pharaoh even better. Well done, Sophia!

Bit of a piss take when you realize they could have done this with Troy. Or made it so Troy expands Pharoah, like Warhammer.

1) Fixed pathfinding + Proper realistic sieges.
2) 8 players simultaneous turns MP campaigns.
What they bring (that no one asked for EVER): Movable campaign maps that can be expanded to the west
I have been saying this update was needed for a long time. But even during Troy I was saying add Greece and Mesopotamia and add these features. We got it!!!!

Simple tips to make this title extremely realistic:
1: Add killing animations. The retreat phase of the battle is dissapointing with enemies withdrawing while being hit randomly. Some of them should stop running in order to die with an animation.
2: Make the soldiers stand straight rather than 1.000 people having their left leg in front of the right. That gives an extremely cartoonish style deployed army.
3: Make the weapons feel heavy or light depending the type of unit. Currently everyone is walking or running like they are carrying plastic weapons or something. You just dont get the feeling of heavy infantry or heavy armors
8:35 That was Sparta. Specifically, Menelaus and his faction. His faction mechanic plays exactly like that: the more allies you have, the more units you're able to recruit from their rosters. Though his other mechanic is being able to raise up razed settlements and build it up quickly, much more than the others.
It only means that the announcement trailer for next game is going to be released soon.
I'm so conflicted on whether I should get the game or not, like on paper it sounds decent, but its still modern total war and I can't help but feel its going to disappoint me

This looks fantastic, making an already great game into something truly amazing. They're incorporating elements from all of my favorite TW games like Attila, Rome, etc. The sad part is, I hadn't even heard about it until your video so I'm not sure this game will get the attention it deserves. Anyway, great job and thanks!

The colonization of ruined settlements has been confirmed to work like it does in Troy, so it’s not just the press of a button… you are familiar this is a returning mechanic, right?

These are positive steps forward as they needed to redeem themselves and this is a good start.
I got Pharoh recently on a Steam bargain deal (it was never worth £30) but I haven't played it yet.

I actual got the game on steam summer sale for around $20 for this update. This what the game should of look like at launch. With that said I think you should review the new edition even if you don't get a early copy. Not many people are going to be covering the new update. This games needs more opinion even if they are negative. My theory why they need the update to run another app becuase the turns per years system would break the base game
This isn't ideal, but it intrigues me enough to try out Pharaoh now I guess.

I like this new update , we need a family tree in every total war game and there are some good mechanics and I love the expanded map and more playable factions , there could be more improvements but since this is the last update , this is still pretty good
I'm really interested on playing as one of the minor factions, hoping to see something like that also in future games.

Might take a look at it. Was already skeptical of pharaoh, but when I found out they were depecting the Bronze Age collapse without actually depecting the very empires and civilizations that created the Bronze Age? I passed hard. But all of these features n factions is more what I had imagined when they announced they’d be doing a Bronze Age collapsed era
It's weird to me, if _this_ version of Pharaoh had released I have no doubt it would have sold well and been warmly accepted by the community even if Bronze Age Egypt would not have been everyone's cup of tea but what we got was a really pared down Total War scenario. In a way it's like they released the DLC first and now we're getting the main game.
Seems to me CA bean counters shortchanged Sofia and forced them to narrow the scope. Whoever is in charge over there has been making some really poor decisions over the last year or two, hopefully the lessons of Pharaoh and WH3 will teach them to not short change their fans. I've never been one to dogpile on CA but Pharaoh was definitely a strong sign that they were cutting some major corners. I'm glad that it's getting a redemption arc, I only worry it might be too little too late.
I'm just hoping that this leads to a comeback for pharaoh. Maybe a second wind could lead to more development. I know its a far cry but a man can dream
I'm legitimately excited for this update, even enough to dump some money now to buy the game. If only they did this on release, might've even bought it outright
Pharaoh is already a good game and this update will make it even better. Pharaoh may well turn into the best Total War ever and I say that having played most of them (except the last two War Hammers and Troy). Hats off to CA Sofia for the work they have done. It is a shame that the game began life under such a cloud of negativity, even before it was released. Hopefully it will eventually get the recognition it deserves.

I have a high end pc, I like the game but it is chugging hard. The ui seems to slow the game to an almost freeze. I don’t know if anyone else is having the same issue but it’s hard to play

the MAIN proble m is not historical or even super ultra big map , the main CORE problem , is that the battles and the CAampaing map gameplay are terribly arcade and dumbdown plus the terrible AI, that still behaves exactly the same as Total war titles for 20 years ago .
Should’ve did a complete graphical overhaul from the cartoon ass Disney fairytale look. Completely breaks the immersion

I mean it's not an objective claim it's just my subjective impression. Plenty of historical mechanics here (and some new ones) that bring it far closer to what a Historical game should be than Troy or the release version of Pharaoh ever were. Need to get some gameplay in to really be sure of course but there's a lot to be positive about here

Cool, seems like Sophia team was inspired in some other titles with the dynasties and deeds (CK2/CK3). Decided to buy the game cause, you know, fuck it, two games for the price of one? Started playing a ramses campaign to get the feel for fhe game. Liking it for now
So much unfair hate has been thrown in Pharaohs direction. I hope the Dynasties update makes more people realize that Pharaoh is a great game, perhaps one of the best.

Nope, no naval battles. It would be similar to R2: just without ramming, no artillery, no large ships etc. So basically just small ships with boarding and long-range combat.
Sea battles are good, but there are fewer people playing, so there won't be sea battles, is CA Sophia's point of view.
Will it be cheaper to buy current game and get the free upgrade?
Tbh, none of this matters if the battle AI and campaign AI is still as braindead as ever.

and there is also information that this is the last update for Pharaoh! and that in general they will not soon return to the historical Total Wars, they will go into fantasy to Warhammer!🙄🤨 and this big update comes as new content, and should be like paid DLC! but with the unpopularity of the game, that’s why they decided to release it as free! 😉😁

This is not new, CA already been adding this feature. Remember the Records mode from 3K Total War?
They chose to ignore that so they can complain about there not being any historical total war games, same with historical mode in Troy. Many historical only Total War players are extremely elitist, they literally just want remakes of Rome, Medieval, Empire, and Shogun but are too proud to admit it. They’ll point out historical inaccuracies in the new games but turn a blind eye to stuff like ninja grenadier squads.
If they don't fix the combat then all the expansion to the campaign map goes to waste

All depends on how the combat plays. If it is still broken and unsatisfactory I will not be buying. If it actually plays well (good collision & hit mechanics, visuals and tactical gameplay) then I will give this game a purchase for sure
I just hope they get rid of those stupid mechanics from Troy TW , specifically that of the "mood" influence of main characters like Achilles, was really a pain in the ass to have to always play with nerfed stats because of "mood swings".

@@TheTerminatorGaming I’m pretty sure shogun 2 was 4 turns per year. In Rome total war each turn is half a year, and each turn switches off between winter and summer seasons. Same in empire total war in napoleon total war every turn was two weeks, each season lasts a total of eight weeks.

Actually not full historical. There was no Babylonia in this period as this game depicts. Mesopotamia was occupied by the Kassites, a barbarian group, in the late Bronze Age, not by the Babylonia of Sargon from centuries past.
But CA shouldn’t make saga game in such a small timeframe and have to go back to basics and then remake a game. That is not a feasible option.
If the battles are same arcade feeling. I dont care about the campaign addons. For me total war always been about The Battles.

For CA historically They have 2 terrible game lunches. Empire and Rome 2. Now Rome 2 is the most played game in the franchise. Also after CA had these bad lunches came good games on Atilla and Napoleon. Then amazing games like Warhammer and Shogun 2

"immersion", "full for historicity", in a game that its troop looks like fantasy USA Halloween dresses, introduces units from 2000 years before and after the date it's supposed to be set in and ignores all historical documentation, is too much to say, really.

@@baconose1 I'm archaeologist, with a huge dedication to egyptology, they look nothing alike.
You have fantasy veiled archers, you have chariots that are trucks, you have Ood Kingdom infantry (which is the only one that looks believable but it's like giving a spatha to a Marine), you have Hollywoodesque leather armors and helmets (totally unrelated with real stuff), you have infantry with decoration shields from Tutankamon tomb (what its like giving a marine a Balenciaga helmet), not a single realistic armor, the colours are that much plastic and bright that seem from traffic police.
And how do you give cavalry before 1000 years it becomes a battle unit?
That just to say a few problema, maybe the less severe. If you really think those units look anything alike to 13rd century bc military that just means you had never seen, or at the best you have seen 2 or 3 reliefs without knowing neither the date or the origin.
And I say that because the game allegedly depicts an historical moment for which we have plenty of evidence about the military, enough to have stuff with less than 50 years of margin accuracy, still this evidence (carvings, tombs, paints, documentation, weaponary, etc.) has been absolutely ignored in favor of a fantasy world.
@@baconose1 it's not even as "historical" as taking a medieval fantasy scene (Saint George dressed in fire and the Dragon, justing snail, etc.) and use them as an historical reference for an "historical" medieval game.
It's even worse. That's the level of historicity that pharaoh depicts (resting aside the political scenario that it's more or less okey).
@@migueldeuna3261 I agree with you about the fact that there are too many "fantasy elements" (shields etc.). The only problem is that this has been a big problem with the Total War series since the beginning.
When you see how different historically correct units look from total conversion mods like Europa Barbarorum (R1), Age of Bronze (R2), Divide et Impera (R2) or Europa Perdita/Fall of the Eagle (Attila)... CA has always had a tendency to simplify and "Hollywoodize". The problem occurs particularly with elite units. I just hope that there will be a small modding group that can conjure up a DeI Light version of it.
As a Bronze Age fan, you unfortunately can't be picky.
