Thats my point, Chrysler designed the Daytona body to compete in NHRA Pro Stock which is obviously RWD, so yeah, it may look that way. The production cars were FWD and Intercooled turbo Shelby Z's had similar or better stats than Mustang and Camaro in all performance categories... in fact the original owner of my car traded in his year old Z28 on it.
@MetalheadEchidna There are at least two RWD Daytonas that You may like: one can be found here on UA-cam as "ULTIMATE HEMI DAYTONA" (I don't have the URL at hand), and the other is at www.exlinecustomauto.com . But I also love the FWD Daytona and its sister car, the 84-86 Chrysler Laser.
In the slow motion video you can see the back end dip.down. Possible to put in stiffer springs just for the track to save som e ot that energy. Could get a few more 1/2 sec off time. like this car. thks
stiffer springs are good. a board jamed inbetween axle and frame to stop all movement would be best.. Maybe a bar with button release pull pins. Or even air shocks that you max out right before you go to the track. Nic car.
@stockman1963 Used to have air shocks - it bounced more (watch my 10.84 video) Solid would not be good, especially at 140mph... For how it leaves with the current coil overs / stiff springs watch teh 10.62 video
I had an 88 daytona shelby z turbo, bought it for 1000 back in 05. put quite a bit of money into it. had it to about 370 hp, never did drag with it, but ALOT of street racing, right up until I got arrested for racing it and my former roomate wrecked it while I was away and fled town.... I decided I was done with building cars after that lol. bought a caddy next. hahaha
You should get back into it.. It's difficult having a slow stock car after having something BAD-ASS.. During the week, I die inside driving my daily.. My testosterone comes flooding back when I get behind the wheel of my HIGH PERFORMANCE ROCKET-SHIP!!
2.4L stock block (N/A), stock crank, many other stock parts.. but good pistons and rods plus soem head work... info in my build thread at turbo-mopar (.) com
I had an '88 Daytona and enjoyed it a lot. Sold her in 2005.
Javier De La Garza I did too
I miss mine and have been considering the purchase of one today, if I could find a decent example. 35 years...

love it !!!!!
For Dodge Daytonas, the top performance models were as follows:
'84-'86 Turbo Z
'87-'88 Shelby Z
'89-'91 Shelby Daytona
'92-93 IROC R/T

Looks like a nice, solid launch Jason!
Sounds like a nice Shelby Z!
interesting car in itself, i would've loved to see RWD variants of these, they look like they need to be, not that im dissing on it for being fwd. :)

@stockman1963 ...Yeah, thats why I made the slow motion video. Car has stiffer springs all around now. Bigger tires coming in 2012
is the engine stock? My dad just gave me his 88 shelby z less than 14,000 miles on it... almost smells new
You've got one helluva dad.
What motor do you have in there?
Whats the difference between the Shelby & Shelby Z ??
I had an 87 Shelby Z . It had the turbo and everything. 5 speed . Ran hella good for a 4 cylinder. I didn’t know there was a difference
I meant in more or less of a matter that wasnt tube frame, and from the factory
2.4L stock block (N/A), stock crank, many other stock parts.. but good pistons and rods plus soem head work... info in my build thread at turbo-mopar (.) com
