I don't think he failed, he knew that his friends would kill him. Eren sees ALL FUTURES, even the one after the future gets nuked... cause that kid who saw eren's tree, he gonna go through the same process of ymir. and eren sees that kids mind too. One of the future people is gonna get the attack titan. that future looked probally like 300-1000 years in the future

There's no need to feel sad that this is an endless cycle. Ymir was being hunted down by the dog in the past, the kid in the ending had the dog as his companion. The cycle gets better over time. Just like Armin said, humanity needs to keep persisting to change things for the better no matter how slow the process is. I'm sure the kid won't transform into a titan because he has no need to hurt others or to protect himself. He'll use the source of all life power to do something more positive.

no he wanted to wipe everything, that's what he meant. He is not doing this for his friends, remember he said "I thought I was doing this for you, but no". Before this there was shown a memory of Eren from his dad saying "Your name is Eren, you are free". Freedom for Eren is having the the entire world flat without people, that's the view he wanted and the view he had since he was a kid. His goal is also shown when he opens up to Ramzi. The one thing people miss about the final panels: we don't know what happens in the future. It could be the world attacking Paradis as a form of get back for the rumbling, or it could be the end of a war that future eldians started. So, Eren's sacrifice wasn't pointless. His actioned turned his people into heroes and ensured they, their children and grandchildren lived happy peacefull lives. Conflict returned after centuries of peace, when world forgot about the Pain of the Rumbling. A the cycle begun again, but with new characters behind the wheel.

They would have to better justify it with the episode in the past about Ymir and King Fritz or changed trajectory earlier to connect to something else for Ymir. I think that plot is the main awkward point for me.
I think it was funny how Armin was like "Why Mikasa?" and Eren was like "Only Ymir knows" before the extra pages were added with Mikasa actually confronting Ymir.
It seems like this plot was less planned out compared to how more meticulous Isayama is in general with the plots of story, which is why some people theorize that Historia/Ymir connections seemed to have more significance prior (even had weird plot like she could have Eren's kid), but faded more into background later like things changed around. It's just speculation of course though.

Eren didn't do this all for nothing. He succeeded in giving his friends a long, peaceful life, and he kept Paradis at peace for possibly a few generations. Also, the power of the titans were removed as a result of this situation. Eldians wouldn't be viewed as monsters anymore.
The characters thought that the titans were the cause of the problems they were trying to rid from the world, but the depressing reality is that with or without titans these problems still exist and "world peace" is impossible as long as humans have free will.
Eren did the absolute best he could without the ending being too idealistic.
A bittersweet ending. A somewhat happy ending and a deep and depressing message about the reality of the world and humanity.

I’m sorry but I think people are forgetting the declaration of war by Tiber…
If Eren does nothing, they get nuked.
The only reason they hadn’t done it yet was because they wanted the founder and they wanted the natural resources.
Eren didn’t just do this to save his friends, it saved his race.
This is like a group of 100 people coming to your 4 person house hold and trying to kill you all. The only way to survive is to kill 80 of them 🤷🏾‍♂️
People also forget that it’s stated 3 times in the manga and twice in the show that the rest of the world treat eldians WORSE than Marley do! WORSE!!!!
This isn’t a “only soldiers are involved” situation.
The general public of the remote world kept all eldians in concentration camps or just straight up killed them.
The only real innocents are the children.

@georgepapakleovoulou2975 The dialogue with Armin/Eren without the awkward dialogue that seemed to sound like him thanking him for genocide which was controversial. lol Here in anime Armin says he going to hell with Eren (not that he needs to feel that responsible, that's still on Eren) so he's accepting responsibility with him.
Also the time that passed in the epiloque is more before war starts again. Because in manga it seemed like the peace lasted like 50ish years maybe but Eren's efforts quickly undone. In anime it makes it look more futuristic so that so much more time passed before conflict started again.

Well the manga scene was misunderstood to begin with. Armin never thanked Eren for his actions, but his intentions. He thanked him because he put his friends above all humanity, to the point he was about to go borderline insane between the power of the founding Titan and the fact he was exterminating millions of people who were innocent. However, right after that, he says to Eren "we will make sure *this error* doesn't go to waste". Armin thanked Eren for his intentions, not his *actions.* Even tho I agree that the anime handle the scene much better.

I don't think I'll ever love another series this much, I'm not even necessarily an Anime watcher but gave AOT a chance when it came out in 2013 & got hooked (tried to get into a bunch of other anime's after I got into AOT, especially when season 2 took 6 years to come out, but they did not keep my attention). If you take a look at the ODM gear scenes thoroughly, you will find that they are similar or kinda equal to WIT STUDIO art style this time. The ODM gear scene with Levi at the last battle recalls his Season 3 chase. And the one who drew that Season 3 scene was participating in this final part as well. His name is *Arifumi Imai, who is an expert in drawing combat anime and he is the main artist for drawing every single Levi scene in the series (except the first 3 parts in final Season)*

You guys keep mentioning that Eren’s plan was to kill everybody. It was not. He explained his plan was to get his friends to be the ones to kill him and STOP him from killing everybody. He WANTED them to STOP him. That’s why he did and said everything that he did and said. He didn’t calculate it to be 80% either he just had to really sell himself as a villain and they weren’t able to stop him until he reached 80%. He wanted them to stop him sooner but they just weren’t able to because they didn’t want to kill him. In more than ways it’s like Hostoria said, this wasn’t the result of Eren’s choices alone; it was everyone’s. So he had to leave them no choice but to kill him. So just wanted to clarify that. Eren’s plan wasn’t to kill everybody, it was to make the whole world believe he wanted to and see him as the villain and have his friends save the world in their eyes. That way the hate towards his friends would end because they were the ones that killed him and saved them. Ymir was the one that wanted to kill everybody. When they were fighting Eren it wasn’t Eren controlling all those titans and trying to stop them/kill them. It was Ymir doing it because she wanted to slaughter everyone. The desire Eren had to kill everyone came from her because he’s connected to her by the founder and Attack Titan. That’s why he’s saying he doesn’t know why but he had a strong desire to do it. That’s low key also why Eren hates being a slave because he was like the biggest slave. To Ymir and her desires and his desire for freedom and protecting his friends; he had to take the burden of having everyone hate him and give up his life to protect his loved ones. He didn’t want to die though. It was a very complicated and beautiful story and character.
