    Kids growing up now think Katy Perry, Beyoncé or Lady Gaga are big, but they have no idea. Michael Jackson was on a whole different level and he literally wrote nearly all his music (and ACTUALLY wrote it, he wasn't gifted writing credits by the record company like they do, to make artists seem more authentic and talented), invented and did most of his choreography etc. He created the choreography element to pop music, especially to that level, that's why all 90's pop had synchronised choreography. He also crossed generations which never normally happens with pop music, my parents loved his music.

      My parents and grandparents loved Michael Jackson, and they are all gone now! my Italian grandma wanted me to marry him, LOL! Never got close, but she loved his heart, and she said she loved him as much as she loved Elvis. (and that was a LOT!) My mom named my brother Ben because it was on the radio when she was in the Hospital (and she LOVED that song!) as it was popular then. My parents even let me stay up to watch Michael sing Ben at the Academy Awards, and it was a big deal, because I was like 8 or so.

I feel lucky, i'm old enough to witness his career when he was alive. I was "dragged" into his magic when Bad was released. This is from MJ's full length movie called Moonwalker. The film is a collection of different unrelated sections. And this is a small section from the longest part of the movie that's actually called Smooth Criminal. This is the only section that is a full short movie with a plot. The bad guy is played my Joe Pesci. The movie is actually great but it came out at the end of the 80s' when the US and UK media started it's hate-boner for MJ.

    MJ revolutionized the whole music video genre forever. His Thriller mv, hailed as the greatest music video of all time and is also the only music video selected to be in the Library of Congress’ prestigious National Film Registry. It was his original idea. Not to mention Thriller album was and is still the biggest selling album of all time. Unbeatable. That’s how genius and ahead of the game he was. So yeah, he started it all.

  • @Mike-ow4ot
    @Mike-ow4ot 2 роки тому +45

    Everyone gets confused about the interlude, but it's all about light and dark and is pure artistry. The video is characterised by warm light, calm and calculated precision, everyone playing their part like clockwork. The interlude seeks to bring you back down to earth with the complete antithesis; cold darkness, disjointed beats, pure chaos, before shooting you back up to the heights of genius.

    • @TheMitchZone
      @TheMitchZone Рік тому +6

      YES! THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS! I've been binging people's reactions of MJ's OG Smooth Criminal video, and at least 85% to 90% of reactors get very confused, and/or weirded out by it. Was watching the reaction of this from "jayshara"? Something like that. Can't remember her channel name.
      When that part came up, she made an awkward cringe face while still smiling awkwardly. Lol Then she said "What is happening? I don't know if I like this part. It's freaking me out" 😂
      It obviously made her uncomfortable just like all the others. Lol Being totally honest though, I didn't fully understand it myself, but I KNEW that it was likely a part of some kind of dance/art that I wasn't familiar with, which was likely very popular, so I never outright REJECTED it, just simply because I didn't understand it. Most people are usually ignorant about these unique styles of art and dance, so they're naturally confused when seeing it because they don't understand it, and people often reject things that they don't understand. I'm very self aware of that, I always was, so I never had a problem with it.
      It does however make people's reactions difficult to watch (imo) when this part comes, because I know the awkwardness & uncomfortable confusion is coming... and I don't do well with awkwardness. Lol
      Makes me have to mentally prepare for this part EVERYTIME! It never fails. 😂😭

    Spouse or partners violence/ physical abuse (from their partners)
    Annie are you ok. They're asking Annie is she okay. Her partner is the smooth criminal. He's going around causing disruption, violence and physical abuse in every space he stands. Every time he is causing violence they're asking Annie are you ok, will you tell us you're ok. That is why?...Annie are you ok her partner is a criminal. Michael Jackson was heavily influenced by Fred Astire, MJ got the idea for "Smooth Crimial" from this musical skit. The Band Wagon (1953) But also for "Billie Jean", "Rock My World" and the chorus to "Dangerous". Fred Astire was one of MJ's biggest influences there is a video on youtube of fred in a clip danceing with smooth crimial play over the top it is ace!

    The Smooth Criminal music video is actually a section of the movie Moonwalker - which itself started as an extended music video. While released as a stand alone music video overseas, the Smooth Criminal music video wasn't released on its own in the USA until reissues many years later.
    For a long time the only way to see this was in a cinema.
    Also, fun fact: the beat to this is the same rhythm as CPR. "ANNIE" is rescusi-annie, the practice CPR doll. That's where he got the idea.

    He basically ''made'' MTV. His music videos were like short films. I grew up in the 90s, sitting with a tape recorder in front of the tv, recording his songs. He was THE absolute super star. I haven't seen his level of fame since he passed away. I honestly can't ever see an artist on his level anymore. He became the best selling solo artist and he did it in a time where people had to go out and make the effort to buy a record, cassette tape or CD. He created the blueprint of the modern pop artist. He came from a funk/soul background and was active in the music scene since his was a child. He is the absolute greatest of all time.

      love MJ as well but prince was the greatest album sales don't tell the whole story and my only criticism of MJ is he didn't release enough albums just 7 he made a really huge impact with those 7 albums but prince's catalog is clearly the best for a solo artist rip to both of them
