Piaget divided children's cognitive development in four stages, and each of the stages represents a new way of thinking and understanding the world. He called them (1) sensorimotor intelligence;0-2 years, (2) preoperational thinking;2-7 years, (3) concrete operational thinking;7-11 years, and (4) formal operational thinking;11 years old through adulthood.
