How to fix a battery charge fault warning on a Peugeot 508, Citroen C5, Citroen DS4?
It can be a bad relay on the BPGA unit, a bad ground connection (corroded wires) or a failing alternator. A low battery can cause various faults and warnings on the display as seen in the video.
Step by step video on how to replace the battery management & protection unit (BPGA).

Hi. I have 2015 Peugeot 2.0 HDI. It won't go in the full sleep mode after locking. Light on the P on the automatic gearbox stands ON whole night. And then when I start the car it says Electrical circuit system fault. I googled a bit and found that BPGA could be a solution, but my servicer does not know anything about it... I suppose it is the vertically placed box right before the battery that the battery is attached to it. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes the BPGA unit is the vertically place box and the horizontal bit with the fuses that sits on top of the battery.

My battery on the C4 keeps draining when the car's not in use and I've been told it's most likely the BCU that sits on top of the battery. Can you just buy one or does it need to be coded to your specific car? I've been quoted between 400 + 500 pounds.

The unit does not need to be coded on the peugeot 508, its just remove and connect. I would say its the same for citroen as they are both basically PSA group vehicles with different names. Just to be on the safe side, the unit I got is a genuine PSA part and yes its quite expensive for what you get (a couple of fuses and relays on a piece of plastic)!

Hi, thanks so much for the nice videos you upload. I have the same problem, however I have changed the BPGA unit and the problem still remains 😢… maybe the alternator is not working?? I connected my wife’s car to mine and the problem disappeared, so probably the alternator is not charging the battery …Any idea? Thanks!!

Hi, it could probably be the alternator not charging the battery or there is a problem with the connection between the alternator and the battery. Once you know the alternator is the problem, you can replace the alternator with a refurbished unit for around half the price of a new one.

My changed a brand new battery, didn't drive for 4 weeks and battery all drained to 0%. Is this BPGA problem which caused the battery power drained?

    • @TheLittleCatchannel
      @TheLittleCatchannel  Рік тому

Its unlikely that the BPGA is causing the battery drain on a new battery. You will need to find out what has caused you to change the battery in the first place. As the vehicle in the video is still running on the original battery for 10+ years. Make sure that nothing is hard wired with the vehicle, check that the alternator is charging the battery and the ground connections are in good condition. A brand new fully charged battery only has a shelf life of around 6-12 months before it starts to degrade if left uncharged, so check the manufacturing date of the battery before buying. Also give the vehicle a long drive after changing the battery so that the battery can be charged.

There is a setting for battery replacement in the "Diagbox" software and a lot of people who have changed batteries without running the software have had issues. Get your service agent to look at it,.

I went to a Citroën mechanic today to ask about the BGPA unit fault. This is what he said:
"About 8 cars per month come in with this BGPA fault. Mostly caused by the battery not being replaced following the correct procedure, and BLOWING UP the Battery Charge Unit! (Even AA make this mistake!).
When you replace the battery, DO NOT turn ON the car! Leave the car windows down and close all doors.
Take your keyless entry FOB at least 3m away, and wait 10 mins.
After 10 mins come back (with FOB) and ** ONLY ** turn ON the electrics.
Wait a min. Now you can start the engine.
This procedure allows the computers to properly start up and reset things after the battery replacement.
The same procedure applies when changing the BGPA".
Also, I specifically asked about coding a replacement unit (something I was told "can only be done at the Citroën factory" - THIS IS NOT TRUE. You can fit a new/refurbished unit as you would a bulb.
He did add, "I don't know about the China parts on Amazon".

This is a new BPGA unit from the dealer. There are also used ones that you can get from the breakers or online which are cheaper. Make sure you have the correct part number when buying.
