i'm a little put off by the new ways of the EDC Community. How can we make a simple item nice but Extremely expensive! Things are getting a little ridiculous.
It can get ridiculous. I love shiny pretty gadgets as much as the next person, but I am even more interested in why they carry what they carry. It's just interesting to see people's EDC's match up with different jobs, lifestyles, ect. The shiny pretty things come secondary.
Sometimes the expensive stuff can be worth it when you constantly use those tools on a regular basis. For example, I'm a security guard. Notebook, pen and flashlight are the most important tools. I have one of those "tactical" pens that writes in waterprood ink, and an "indestructible notebook" as incident reports are VITAL to keep safe in case I am summoned to court. A cheap notebook and pen doesn't really cut it they get destroyed easily on the daily grind. I have an Olight becuase the brighter the flashlight the faster the trouble-makers scatter like cockroaches. I also have a YEDC Pig Coin on the way because the cheap fidget toys break within a week under my use. (Used to regulate Tourette's syndrome) But some items are just cheapos. My wireless earbuds for example. I need to have something to listen to so I don't get bored, yet also be alert of my surroundings. I don't need noise-cancelling earbuds, I just need a cheap tinny earbud in one ear for listening to audiobooks and podcasts. My watch is just a reasonably priced Timex Expedition. For a knife, just a $30 classic Victorinox swiss. So depending on your EDC and usability of the items it's all depends. But yeah, it's a bore when I see people just posting over-priced stuff with no context.
@@RubenAvilaslight problem with that, high quality things have high quality products in it, high quality components cost more money, meaning it cost a lot to produce, meaning that to Evan break Evan he would have to change a lot of money. It's called capitalism, love it or be a communist
I personally don't consider the screw driver setup a practical EDC, but accept it would be a nice desktop item for the office. I am liking the mini speaker though , very international rescue (am sure Jamie would love it). thanks for another detailed well presented video.
For people who just want a good knife driver the $7 husky diver @ Home Depot has 4 double sided hardened bits and is perfect for knives fellas . I wanted to let people when a bit is stripped it’s possible to take a Dremel drum sander tip and take it down 1/16 “ or whatever it needs and extend the life and make it new again . Until another strip happens which can be avoided with the husky bits because sometimes the t7 or t9 bit fits better , nice and snug . 👍. Just sharing info to help someone hopefully . Serious,y though I think that husky driver was designed with knives in mind .
There’s no way I’d carry a key ring that looks like it has a bullet attached. When travelling I don’t need to attract the attention of Customs/Border Force personnel.
Thanks Jon, another interesting vid. Torch and Key connector would be my faves in this roundup. But Exotac gets my wallets vote. Just wondering if you would ever do a long term update on any items you have reviewed that still feature in your regular use?
That Muzen speaker reminds me of my Divoom Espresso speaker. It's smaller, made of plastic and has steampunk style with gears and screws, but overall the shape and buttons positioning are similar. Nice lightweight speaker to carry in a bag, and sound is surprisingly good too. Costed me around 4-5 times less than that Muzen speaker.
The screw driver is really neat even though it's a want rather than need. I really love and need fidget tools. My EDC includes a small drawstring bag with a haptic coin, small discreet gear spinner and of course a zippo lighter becuase that is both fidget and essential EDC in one.
Have you seen the keysmart magconnect pro yet? It also somewhat solves the unwanted pull apart issue with magconnect and magnuts (or whatever the keybar version is called) by REQUIRING the sideways force. I can see it being less easy to use though compared to the bullet one or the regular pull apart ones.
Surprised you didn’t go for the brass screwdriver! I know you’re also a fan of brass. SilverFox Tools have very recently launched a brass screwdriver that it a lot more pocket friendly!
My thoughts on this group, a screw driver like that should have at least a couple of bits attached and the branding is pathetic, powerbank..man that is a cheesy look- I wouldn't keep it even if it was gifted to me, shorts- somehow I wouldn't trust them for important things, I would go for a pouch with a clip and put it in my pocket (secured by clip) , torch is fine if that is what your looking for, Tag vault- my personal favorite here, speaker- If I want a speaker, I want a speaker spend the cost of this on a better one. key ring- I don't need a bullet on my keyring to make me feel like a man lol and the older pushpin system is much more secure and handy
I’ve been wanting one of those little speakers, but thanks to this review I think I’ll wait for version two since it will probably have USB-C. And it would be nice if they made that part so it wouldn’t wiggle. Maybe don’t listen to this review and fix a couple of things.
The speaker sent “XO Y R” when you turned it on. Be interesting to know if it means anything. The Bluetooth sync fast two beeps are likely just two beeps but would also possible be “I” in Morse. Cheers.
Some of those items are just ridiculous. Take the screwdriver. It is drop-dead gorgeous, I will say that. I would put this on my desk and marvel at it. Sort of defeats the „Carry“ part of EDC. Would I want to do any actual work with it? Hell no! If I drop 150-400 bucks on a screwdriver I would be way too scared to lose it, scratch up the gorgeous finish or have someone yoink it. About 40 bucks is where I draw the line for an EDC screwdriver set (I have a Hoto branded one that looks kinda banged up by now but works 100% flawlessly. Plus, if I lose it I am only about 30 bucks out - still annoying but not a massive deal). If you have a bunch of money that is burning a hole in your pocket that you need to get rid of fast and this expensive tool juuuust hits the spot: Rock on - I won’t hold you back. You do you…but I will still say it is ridiculous.
I've had great luck with Lumintop. I currently have a GT Mini and extension tube with the 3500Mah battery and the Tool AA with a 920 Mah battery. The only issue I've had with them, is losing them...
Your first item is expensive , worthless, other than to see how far I can throw it into the ocean. I don't mean to be negative the shorts with the waterproof pocket is awesome.. Thx. This is just my 2nd review I've seen of yours , I like them both , keep up the good work . Thank you . 😊
@@JonGadget Your right . I would have buried that compact screwdriver at the end of your video , and not have it lead off . I almost turned away , but glad I didn't. The rest was cool . Thank you Sir . Enjoy your evening .
Did you have to give back that swanky screwdriver set? Gorgeous 😍 desktopper... umm lemme get that off your hands 😁 I needs the precious! LOVE your bar/man cave backdrop by the way. Is that actually a real bar or pub?
It's a real issue with the keysmart magnetic clip, I find I don't want a super 'high pull' magnet, but also find that my keys disconnect by accident more often than I like. Good video!
Jon, love your finds and opinions! Feedback for improvement- seems like sometimes you are heavy on citing specs like battery life, runtime without verifying yourself. Those specs are overstated often so would be great to have a second opinion. Tough to do but always appreciated! Great production value as always, thank you!
Lumintop is very finicky and very delicate not appropriate for EDC, it will fail when u really need it. I would never have lumintop product for anything.
Am I the only one slightly annoyed by him saying IPX rating instead of IP rating? Seems to me like he dosen't fully understand the IP rating as it usually has two parts: Protection against solid objects like dust and protection against Water. An example would be IP 55 or IP X5 if the resistance against dust isn't specified.
Happy Friday Jon, what can I say about your latest crop of unusual gadgets other than I don't need or want any of them, not even as paperweights except maybe as gifts for people you really dont like who have given you useless & unwanted gifts and you wish to repay them in kind!
I have to partially concur. I’d buy some of these products if I won the lottery and just couldn’t figure out how to spend the money. Thanks for an entertaining video Jon.
What’s the deal with the goodskrew place?????? All their crap is out of stock. They went out of business or what? Only sell like three of the things at a time??? Nobody has time for that nonsense. I’m not going to waste my time chasing a company that can’t be bothered to figure out appropriate pricing to keep their crap in stock.

Hear, hear!
You should make some Uber high quality edc items and sell them at a super low price.

thanks for feeding back - pleased you like it - it is surprisingly good
Those shorts may be my go to now for when paddle boarding etc

I absolutely love those shorts! But i feel like it'd feel weird going in the water with stuff still in pockets😂
The amount of "stuff" people feel the need they have to have blows my mind.
There’s no way I’d carry a key ring that looks like it has a bullet attached. When travelling I don’t need to attract the attention of Customs/Border Force personnel.
I doubt this would be a problem

The power bank looks like something my Grandad would buy. He was had so many gadgets and things that didn’t look like what there actually were 🤨🧐😆
They call it good screw because they screw you good on the prices 😂😂

Sold on those shorts!
Yes, they really good Dom 👍
Shorts are the only one that would interest me everything else seems a bit tacticool rather than practical

Using all the pockets of the the bathing shorts you probably get problems staying at the surface when swimming. 🤔

The screwdriver looks more like something I’d find missing from my desk and I’d find it on my wife’s nightstand
Ya know, for as expensive as that driver is the bit holder (not the spinny one) would be not a boring black chunk of plastic
yes - could be more interesting - but would cost even more!

With all those pockets filled I think they’re more like “sinking shorts” than swimming shorts.
😁
That's a pretty cool screwdriver set
The Thor light would be perfect for Batman
Hi Jon, great video as always, you should check out the new Olight arkfeld, they have a fairly good reputation of flashlights
The speaker sent “XO Y R” when you turned it on. Be interesting to know if it means anything. The Bluetooth sync fast two beeps are likely just two beeps but would also possible be “I” in Morse. Cheers.
It would be great if the Muzen speaker could be attached to a belt or backpack strap
Agree!
Wow...can say I have not had a GoodSkrew.
That Muzen speaker lost a sale with the Micro USB.
yes - not ideal unfortunately

I have no use for LEP but damn that's a cool technology
I've always fancied one of those muzen speakers as they look fantastic! After your review I'm more swayed towards getting one but.....micro USB... :(
