@@methmaranaveera3273 it can definitely run games around that time and some optimized newer games, but for best performance you'd need to be on a ddr4 board. try to find a 4gb 770 if you can, it's a way better pickup
I'm not a gamer. But I bought a GTX 960 new for $217.25 in 2015 (9 years ago), That's nearly $300 in 2024 bucks, and I'm still using it. Problem free for my purposes for that long is pretty impressive from my POV. I used to crunch for SETI@Home with it. The most it works out now is HiDef video processing.
the reason you see lower temp even on overclock is that you are vram limited on 960 with shaders and textures so your gpu usage is lower you can clearly see that the TDP is lower on 5 fps minecraft anyway good video .
The reason why temps dropped under load after oc is because of power usage. You weren’t drawing more than 105w usually. I own a 960 that can do up to 175 but rarely reaches that. The cooler and how much power it draws will never make it touch 70c on the cooler. At most I saw my 960 do like 66c while gaming at most. It was almost always chilling at 57c tho
yo man i run that EXACT card but its 4gb instead of the usual 2gb model and it manages to pull its own weight today, i dont play any AAA new releases so it does its job perfectly fine for what its worth, good card!
@@methmaranaveera3273 It does support that. It supports NVIDIA shadowplay as well unlike the GTX 560 Ti. Shadowplay uses the NVENC encoder to record with almost no loss in framerate.
Cool experiment, but what you didn't know about overclocking a lot of video cards, is they go into a high temperature throttling mode when overstressed. You have to sneak up on the OC. Try something less?
Temperature in the 60s is perfectly normal for that card. Two fans is kind of overkill for this little gpu. Now try and find a gtx 960 with blower style cooling , THEN you will see different temps lol (up to 80)… My last gtx 960 overclocked +150 on core and +550 on memory :-)
Had that precise model for a few years .. yeah is pretty cool by default, low TDP, plus a beefy msi cooler .. it will never overheat ... the only bad part was .. that i had the 2gb model and also .. maxwell sucks at dx12 and vulkan ... pretty nice experiment buddy, nice vid ....

Since you're looking for more vram these might help :)
What you failed to take into account is Nvidia, was pushing for card looks parody in the 900 series. So many of the makes just threw on higher end coolers on the lower cards. The the 960 archetecture Maxwell 206 was one of the better per watt cards of its time outside of the 750ti.
@@xenomorphgaming7472 I know, outside of the 750ti (60w) that didn't even need power cables the 960 (120w) is a low wattage, with a cooler that was meant for cards with 130w more power drawl.
Inspired by your effort to make the card heat up to 70 degrees, I have committed to research my own 960. Without changing any of the factory settings in its entire lifespan, everything being stock as out of the box, and without tampering with any software (other than installing the most recent driver) - after some effort, I have managed to get mine 960 to 70,1°C with the hot spot being 79,1°C. I dont think its possible for it to go to 80 degrees since fan speed was just 48% at that temperature. I appreciate the video.
@@EverythingDesktops Of course!! I tried today again, and i managed to get consistently above 70°C, with the hot spot up to 81,3°C (fans at 54%). So basically my poor 960 is ̶u̶s̶e̶d̶ abused daily for 4K gaming (online and competitive titles), and i manage to get temperatures above 61°C in only one hellhole of a game - VR Chat. I run it without VR, on said 4k TV. I used 700MB "crasher" avatar which is the most visually intensive thing that i have ever seen in my entire life, and after numerous tries with various functionalities of said avatar, i managed to get above 70°C. VR chat is generally the best game - i believe - to set GPU utilization/temperature records, because the GPU is primarily used there to rasterize user-created, unreasonably large, overly complex and very very poorly optimized content (especially avatars). If someone ever wanted to attempt it, I used an avatar called "golden gang robot DS by ×͜×GĦØSTLY×͜×" (though i believe there are many others that can do it). It is available for free for any person upon searching for it on an avatar world. Most GPU-consuming shader package for this avatar is according to my research the "golden robot animation 3" which you have to select in game in order to start an epilepsy-inducing light show which also melts your GPU. I recommend doing it in a large and graphic intensive world/instance for an easier 70°C. (PLEASE do not use this avatar nor its functions in a public instance, since it will hardcore lag other people and may make them epileptic).
Run a game thats not 6fps but more 30, so that the watts of the gpu are high, in msi afterburner, turn the powerlimit to the highest possible and then overclock it
