I appreciate you telling me that GE sent one for free. I already knew how to remove the filter and installing bypass should be very similar, however, I was about to buy one off of Amazon for $25 and I called them and they ordered one up for me for free. I even tried back-flushing the filter, but I believe there is an RFID chip that probably shuts it off hard. But I have one coming FedEx. Thanks for the info.
My pleasure and FWIW mine is still working great! My whole-house water filter and then my RO system clean my water. The fridge simply contains this dummy filter now that I don’t have to pay to replace :)
You were oblivious to the turning needed to both uninstall and then install the bypass, also, so the holes do not line up at the start, just consider the clockwise turn to install such that they line up afterward.
but the xwfe filter has the chip do not throw the filter away if anything carefully remove the chip and then buy your water drop or other filters from Amazon cheap and replace the RFID chip in the exact location it was on the factory filter mark it
Great tip! Thank you very much! Hopefully I will never use a refrigerator filter again, since my reverse osmosis filter is so much better (plus less expensive to service).
By a Whirlpool WRS571CIHZOO, then remove the filter. You don't need a bypass plug. Mine comes with a built-in bypass. I installed a whole-house water softener system. Still dispenses water and makes ice. My system is the LifeSource non-salt system. No user maintenance and a 25-year life cycle. Just need to replace the charcoal canister about 6 to 8 years. Way cheaper than replacing water filters and salt. I don't need an RO system that you have to change fitlers which is another cost.
Subscribe and check out my reverse osmosis filter video. I use that and I contacted GE to obtain a "blank filter" to use inside of the refrigerator, since my water is now filtered prior to arriving at the refrigerator.

it seems you can take the RFID chip off of the filter carefully and stick it in the identical location on the new filter..

Also, you could include some observance of the filter status indicator. Before and after.
Excellent feedback! Thank you very much for sharing!

Thank you for the video. Very helpful.
No problem!
Mr. Irix, pls show a hack for the XWFE GE filter, so we can use good, but inexpensive filters by transferring the chip.

I did this and the filter status light is giving me red light with an error status instead of a number.
Strange. I’ve never encountered that.
Do you need to turn your water off?
I did not but I had a towel and bucket beside me, just in case!
before you make a video practice what you are going to teach!!!!
