So here are some things I'd like to say: 1.- I highly recommend not using any DPI scaling other than 100% if you want the best experience 2.- For the XP install, you MUST use the x64 version, not the 32-bit nor the 64-bit one 3.- To download almost any attached file from the WinClassic forum, you must have an account beforehand 4.- Windows XP x64 comes with Media Player 10, not 9. Here's a link for the newer version: ua-cam.com/video/Fta_1j31Pls/v-deo.html 5.- For the XP version of Mystify to show up on the screensaver list, you must delete or rename the current version "Mystify.scr" inside System32 6. There's no need to copy "scrnsave.scr", my bad. 7. I missed some other screensavers from XP that are located at "C:\Windows\SysWow64", copy those as well 8. Put the AHK scripts in the startup folder, which is located at: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" 9.- Don't get Firefox 113.0, get 113.02 instead, which I did put in the description 10.- If you see that some parts of the video are muted, that's because one of the songs I used in this video got copyright claimed 11.- Don't forget to install the "Enable SyslistView32" Windhawk mod and remove all the items found on the "Text Replace" mod, after that, type "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" on the Program name box, then type "Mozilla Firefox" on the second box, finally, type "Microsoft Internet Explorer" on the last box.
@rain22738 If you're using a virtual machine, copy and paste the files from the XP vm to your main installation, just like you would copying contents from a folder to another one (Keep in mind that you must have VirtualBox Guest Additions or VMware Tools depending on the virtualization software you choose). If you're copying the files from a physical machine, use a USB drive to copy the contents from your XP installation to Windows 11.
@@HotTripod78computers sucked at the time and couldnt run windows vista because they mostly supported XP, and it was far ahead of its time. windows 7 had to be optimized, but also around that time computers got better. vista is also a beautiful looking OS aesthetically.

I gotta say, your Windows 7 transformation video works well on my machine. I've been using it for approx 5 months from now, there's no issues other than some incorrectly displayed due to WindowBlinds but can be easily fixed by excluding it. Able to run Forza Horizon 5 while being on a 2009-esque frutiger aero acrylic operating system feels really isn't right & cool at the same time.
The devientart xp theme pack (2nd link in desc.) has been updated and no longer has the proper files, I've tried putting the mediafire link into the wayback machine as well but the website that appears for a split second when the file is downloaded to your computer isnt archived, so theres no way to access the original file, if you could somehow provide me with the original file (via. discord maybe or google drive link/ separate media fire link) or give me another website to download it from it would really be appreciated, thank you.

Nope, you just change the aspects of the computer and nothing else. That is, you cannot transform the software from Windows 11 to Windows XP because that is not possible, if it were to be changed there would be many errors in the system.
Heya, thanks for the tutorial! I've ran into an issue though, I've somehow closed the Navigation Pane in Explorer, as it had an X button on it, and I clicked it by mistake. Do you know if there's any way to re-open it in Classic Explorer please? I also have an issue after installing the icons, where viewing a folder in Medium Icons view is fine, but in the Large Icons view, it shows the XP icon, and then an older (looks to be an old 9x or earlier) folder icon behind it.
You can get the navigation pane by clicking on the "Folders" button on the Classic Explorer Bar. Regarding the other thing, that's normal, so keep the icons on medium or lower.
Hey hey! Loving the video thus far! For some reason I cannot get the Explorer to reflect the Windows XP style. I've done all the steps with installing Luna, Theme Tool, Basic Editor, etc. But for some reason Explorer still looks like the Windows 11 one, only with a few minor changes such as a smaller font and a more rounded look. It also looks fine when I download stuff or open programs that aren't directly in Explorer itself. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Somehow the modded skin for Open-Shell's Luna also is not showing up for me despite placing it down in the correct Skin folder.

kiinda, if your computer is really weak it can make him a little bit laggy also, not knowing what youre doing can screw your computer, expecially with the regedit, it can screw your computer BIOS up and you'll have to re install windows but the stuff in the tutorial isnt harmfull if you do it the right way
i currently have a few problems 1: there is this big dark blue bar near the top of my file explorer instead of being like a tan color as shown in the video 2: sometimes i have to slightly resize a window to get it to load the theme in properly 3: at 1:25:06 i tried to go to my properties but the entire window was black and couldnt even be closed from there i had to close it from the retrobar
You can patch XP accurately... And receive windows 7 finally. Other taskbar, visual style and widgets. Same method: package of retro. In 2025 - produce windows 7 personally. Like people writing about XP 2024 (11 based).
it would be cool if you updated your win 11 to 7 transformation and maybe some more advanced tweaks like the control panel applets if they work on win 11 lol but still a cool transformation!
Already try, on windows 10 and windows 11. Bug in win10 is on Explorer, Quero not working. so you didnt get the address bar. Other Bug, keyboard shortcut not working (CTRL+C, F2 for rename, CTRL+V, CTRL+X), when install AutoKey (maybe), 'cause when i skip this step (keyboard was normal) but you didnt get proper xp explorer when you skip this. Also, Task Manager has no button to close or minimize, you have to ALT+F4 to close task manager. So, if you want to (Look Like XP) but in a "safe" way, just follow the step until BasicThemer, and then patch xp icon (at 01:15:16).

Might be a dumb question, I've been wanting to do this for a while now, but this is the only thing that's got me thinking about it. Are the possibilities that some things from the whole transformation gets eventually affected by any windows updates? Knowing how Microsoft tends to do a tons of updates, I was wondering if there's any point that it does break it to a certain degree because of that reason. Other than that, I really adoreee your attempt by recreating XP, huge props to make it look almost accurate to the og source!
I'm pretty sure it will due to the requirement of modification of system files that will eventually get replaced with updates, but Windows Update won't work with the icon pack installed anyway, so don't worry about that.

You have to open Open Shell and go into "start menu style" and select it in "Windows 7 style" and look for the skin and it will appear there. Since the skin is "skin.7" implying that it is from Windows 7
stuck on the logon screen section, there is no "Personalization" key in regedit, I tried just creating the key and then the "NoLockScreen" DWord but that does not work and it still shows the W11 lock screen without showing the classic XP logon.

If you can disable it, right click on task bars and select "task manager" and search for Open shell and BasicThemer and select end task. While the icons, you can delete them as long as you have not used them in a program
my laptop keeps automatically removing the Deviantart windows xp luna zip file everytime I try to open it. is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening?
one thing to note is the windhawk installer will not work unless you use the github link and get the offline installer no idea why but it WILL NOT work with the normal installer
A week ago, Microsoft nuked the required symbols for some Windhawk mods to function properly, and as of now that issue still hasn't been fixed, so that's likely the reason why it doesn't work.

i tried this on windows 11 24H2, my only problem is with the file explorer because it doesn't use native titlebar and it has the tab bar feature of explorer. the look is like the xpLunablue is at the back of the tab bar and the minimize-maximize-close sometimes disappears and replaces with the white-grayish background color and i can't click it.. do you know how to deal with the win11 24H2 explorer tab bar? i tried the windhawk classic explorer plugin with no tabbar but i get transparent titlebar... edit: nvm. i got to make the explorer patcher working, because earlier it keeps not responding for some reason that i have to unistall ep and the explorer still keeps on reloading, so i have to exit the retrobar to normally start the taskbar.

PROBLEM! Was having fun following this tutorial, but I found a flaw which soured my experience. For some reason, File Explorer would not register any keyboard shortcut. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V, and all the like. Even Function key commands don't work. I found this problematic when I accidentally hid Quero and it wouldn't let me reactivate the tool menu again. It was all going perfectly, but having that feature removed is pretty bad for a video editor/animator like me working fast. I also don't know what's causing it so I can't really pinpoint which application to uninstall. Checked the Explorer Patcher if I accidentally turned on some settings and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. I don't know the fix for this, but let this be a warning for those attempting to do this. There will be a chance where File Explorer will not allow you to do Keyboard shortcuts nor Function Key Commands. If anybody knows the fix, please do comment and let everyone know!
I think you're missing two things: the Disk Pie chart Windhawk mod and the Help Center. Although the Help Center isn't really usable, it does open and can add a touch to the system. Also, at least show us how to make the "Personalization" link open the classic display properties, like you did in Project 5112. The msinfo32.exe from Windows XP still works in Windows 11 (I backported the 32bit version for an improved experience)
@thetechguywizard not sure what you mean by that he doesn't show anything of the sort in the video other than resizing the menu and some other tweaking I followed nearly the entire video and it still has overlapping images as the person who made it said it's a unfinished "project" and has issues use at your own discretion

hey, so basicthemer has been acting kind of weird for me. whenever i try clicking on it/running as an admin, the only popup that shows up is “version 0.5.2” (or whatever version it is currently, i’ve been using the final). i’ve attempted installing other various versions of 0.5.2 besides the final provided by the luma theme. the XP borders for tabs on the theme also don’t show up through registry editor, even with me attempting to reset the theme and such. for context, i’m pretty sure i have the same windows ver as you do.

DON’T go to Safe Mode unless you have to; I went in there and the Theming got messed up and I had to do the Theming Process Again and reduced the Title Bar Height with the Winaero Tweaker.

If you can't find the key, then try disabling the lockscreen from Winaero Tweaker

It's at 1:37:11. Once you've installed and ran the program, search for "Disable Lock Screen" and after that, you should be able to disable it.

To do this you have to right click on the application and select "pin to taskbar"And there it will appear to you

1: there is this big dark blue bar near the top of my file explorer instead of being like a tan color as shown in the video
2: sometimes i have to slightly resize a window to get it to load the theme in properly
3: at 1:25:06 i tried to go to my properties but the entire window was black and couldnt even be closed from there i had to close it from the retrobar

Bug in win10 is on Explorer, Quero not working. so you didnt get the address bar.
Other Bug, keyboard shortcut not working (CTRL+C, F2 for rename, CTRL+V, CTRL+X), when install AutoKey (maybe), 'cause when i skip this step (keyboard was normal) but you didnt get proper xp explorer when you skip this. Also, Task Manager has no button to close or minimize, you have to ALT+F4 to close task manager.
So, if you want to (Look Like XP) but in a "safe" way, just follow the step until BasicThemer, and then patch xp icon (at 01:15:16).

I'm pretty sure it will due to the requirement of modification of system files that will eventually get replaced with updates, but Windows Update won't work with the icon pack installed anyway, so don't worry about that.

I have a problem when I put the xp-like skin in the skins file and open the Open Shell to change the Start menu theme. I don't see the theme
You have to open Open Shell and go into "start menu style" and select it in "Windows 7 style" and look for the skin and it will appear there.
Since the skin is "skin.7" implying that it is from Windows 7

If you can disable it, right click on task bars and select "task manager" and search for Open shell and BasicThemer and select end task.
While the icons, you can delete them as long as you have not used them in a program

A week ago, Microsoft nuked the required symbols for some Windhawk mods to function properly, and as of now that issue still hasn't been fixed, so that's likely the reason why it doesn't work.

hello, i have a problem with the windows XP theme. im just gonna keep it short and simple: i did everything how i was supposed to, and everything works correctly, except for the file explorer; basically whenever i open it, the font is good, but the theme is just plain blue or sometimes even transparent, and i have no idea what causes that nor how to fix it. any ideas?

the text is still kinda messed up tho. its basically transparent, and it doesnt react when i click the option to turn this off in personalisation.

@@mramayosken hey, i downloaded this mod and it works! thank you, but i have an another problem with file explorer customization. i did everything i could, but for some reason the icons on the toolbar basically wont show up no matter what. the only diffrence i could notice, was when you were NOT getting the box that says if you want to save changes or not, (notepad) but i did get it.
i tried this on windows 11 24H2, my only problem is with the file explorer because it doesn't use native titlebar and it has the tab bar feature of explorer. the look is like the xpLunablue is at the back of the tab bar and the minimize-maximize-close sometimes disappears and replaces with the white-grayish background color and i can't click it.. do you know how to deal with the win11 24H2 explorer tab bar? i tried the windhawk classic explorer plugin with no tabbar but i get transparent titlebar...
edit: nvm. i got to make the explorer patcher working, because earlier it keeps not responding for some reason that i have to unistall ep and the explorer still keeps on reloading, so i have to exit the retrobar to normally start the taskbar.

PROBLEM!
Was having fun following this tutorial, but I found a flaw which soured my experience. For some reason, File Explorer would not register any keyboard shortcut. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V, and all the like. Even Function key commands don't work. I found this problematic when I accidentally hid Quero and it wouldn't let me reactivate the tool menu again. It was all going perfectly, but having that feature removed is pretty bad for a video editor/animator like me working fast.
I also don't know what's causing it so I can't really pinpoint which application to uninstall. Checked the Explorer Patcher if I accidentally turned on some settings and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.
I don't know the fix for this, but let this be a warning for those attempting to do this. There will be a chance where File Explorer will not allow you to do Keyboard shortcuts nor Function Key Commands. If anybody knows the fix, please do comment and let everyone know!

I think you're missing two things: the Disk Pie chart Windhawk mod and the Help Center. Although the Help Center isn't really usable, it does open and can add a touch to the system.
Also, at least show us how to make the "Personalization" link open the classic display properties, like you did in Project 5112. The msinfo32.exe from Windows XP still works in Windows 11 (I backported the 32bit version for an improved experience)

hey, so basicthemer has been acting kind of weird for me. whenever i try clicking on it/running as an admin, the only popup that shows up is “version 0.5.2” (or whatever version it is currently, i’ve been using the final). i’ve attempted installing other various versions of 0.5.2 besides the final provided by the luma theme. the XP borders for tabs on the theme also don’t show up through registry editor, even with me attempting to reset the theme and such. for context, i’m pretty sure i have the same windows ver as you do.
