- Samsung SmartThings and Google Just Got SO Much Better (Together) + Samsung @ CES!
There is a lot to get excited about when we're talking about Samsung SmartThings and really the Samsung ecosystem in general. We have all of the new devices from CES 2021, plus we have a number of new services, and even a few robots (or personal companions as people like to call them)! However, maybe the biggest news was the fact that Google and Samsung came together and partnered in a number of ways.
We'll show you the new Galaxy S21 phones from Samsung, the new Galaxy SmartTags, and the new Galaxy Buds Pro. Those are devices unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2021. We'll also showcase the new JetBot 90 AI+ (or JB, for short), a new service for your puppy with SmartThings Pet Care, a new way for you to cook with SmartThings Cooking, and a new service called Samsung Bot Care.
That and more in our #news about #samsung #smartthings!

Thanks to a post on Reddit, I've had my Nest account connected to Smartthings for a few days now. Was wondering when you were going to do a video announcing it. Wasn't sure if I should give you a heads up at first or not. Then I remembered you usually post a new video on Saturdays.
I've actually had Nest/ST for weeks now! Just wasn't in the cards with CES going on!
I have a samsung tv. It said to install that app Smartthings on the phone.
I do not have Amazon or Alexa ... Does it have any advantage to install the app (in addition to lowering the volume and turning on the TV from the phone) ???
You should just try it with the SmartThings app :)
Interesting times ahead for sure.
I love the partnership between Samsung and Google and I have found myself investing more and more into Samsung because of great features and good implementation with other brands.
I love the path in most cases! I wish they'd just go vanilla android but I'm starting to feel ready to ignore that difference. It's all great stuff!
@@AutomateYourLife I must say that most of the new features that are introduced in vanilla Android have been implemented in Samsung long beforehand.
For now I'm using the Galaxy Fold 2, an amazing piece of engineering!
You're always ahead of the curve sir!
Never buy a Samsung Fridge unless you dont mind having it serviced every few months to make the ice maker work
Oh the horror... the hours ive spent with a knife and a hairdryer in the icebox....
I went thru two years before finally gave up and got a new fridge
I had one and it wasn't that bad...but I haven't had a newer one. I've heard a few folks mention it though.
Shame that Samsung doesn't send you things. But at least you have a new subscribe. ( me ). Btw; I love your t-shirt. 😁
I'll take the sub any day! Thanks so much!
Any ideas where to buy a SmartThings hub?
Not yet. If you're in Europe there are a few available from a few sellers, but not many. It'll come.
Does this announcement change anything regarding hubs?
Nope! Not a thing.
Will Samsung Smart things still work with Alexa devices?
Absolutely! You're good to go for the long run.
Do you think Google will let Smartthings or any other company have access to Google Home Speakers like what Amazon Echo has had for years? Just want motion sensor to play a sound on speakers?
Boy I hope so. Not showing at all in the developers sdk yet though...
Hubitat has that working quite nicely. When my patio or condo door opens there is a voice announcement on all my Google home mini ‘s.
Nice job again, Brian. The buttons look a little chunky and from a practical standpoint, the latest Tile devices work fine, but we can always use more. BTW, the SmartThings Buttons work perfectly for me these days. I have 5 in use now and they never fail and are quick and very capable...Including the little-discussed ability to "toggle" a light's status, meaning you can control the on/off status of three different lights or groups ...single press on, press again off, etc. The Flics won't do it. I'd really like to see all the Android folks (Google, Samsung, and Amazon) start playing nicely together as Apple just smiles watching them argue amongst themselves.
lol you think Tim is over there giggling in a corner hey? You might just be right.
I'm interested to see if the batteries in the smart tags can be changed and if they become the battery...even if a little chunky as you put it. I'd love to see all that capability come into ST!
Hopefully in the near future they'll let you control Google home with smartthings.
I'm really hoping for that too.
Sadly every time I go to buy Samsung sensors they are "out of stock".
To understand why. Watch ua-cam.com/video/z0hbszcIz-0/v-deo.html then feel better when you watch ua-cam.com/video/NVpiderNn9M/v-deo.html
I really liked the video and your presentation of the content. New Subscriber!
Awesome, thank you!
Samsung tv won't even show up my nest camera feed on it.
Now if SmartThings stays up more than 5 minutes at a time.
It's been a rough go for some folks in the US for sure. Surprisingly, depending on where you were...you haven't had an outage. Ie. me.
Great review. The UWB tag finder is very interesting. You mentioned that the Samsung TVs have a camera built-in. But, on the Google Duo and exercise clips, it shows a small camera mounted on top.
It's possible I was wrong on that...looking at the email Samsung didn't actually confirm that...eep
I'd really like an in depth explanation of how to use NFC tags to trigger lights and other devices in smart things or with Google assistant on Android. It seems really difficult and convoluted.
It's not suuuuuper useful on Android without Tasker! But I can dig into it at some point :)
I’m very excited to see the partnership between google and Samsung. Do you think there will be a new hub coming out since smart things is disappearing?
There IS a new hub: ua-cam.com/video/NVpiderNn9M/v-deo.html
Maybe I'll finally take the plunge on a hub.
One of us...one of us...
You think there's still a battle with Apple ? I really doubt it. I am yet to see someone witha full automation setup via Apple.
Ohhhh there's a ton of people! There's many a battle coming.
Hey Brian, enjoyed your video ......thanks. There's a question I can't seem to get answered going to Samsung's smartthings and Google support. I have water sensors connected to my Samsung Hub but I'd like there to be an audible alarm. The text message automation option doesn't get my attention quick enough, when there's a leak. Samsung told me to get a smart speaker and attach to the hub. During my effort to locate a smart speaker that was compatible, I came across a number of music speakers but their prices were exorbitant. Not quite what I had in mind. You spoke of the new working relationship between Samsung and Google, I wondered, if my Google mesh speakers or my older google speakers would interface. Tried many times through both apps smarttings & Google home) but couldn't tie them together. Do you know of a way to get an audible alarm out of smartthings for my water sensors? thanks
There's nothing today between Google and Samsung that would allow you to do this, sadly. You could get Amazon to say something with virtual switches
Samsung and Google are the kings!
I can find smartthings 2 and 3 on ebay but I am not sure which one to get.. I don't really care about the battery backup ..
Then get a V3. For sure :)
V2's nearing end of life I think. 1-2 years tops.
@@AutomateYourLife Thank you
Hopefully next will come some better SmartThings and Alexa integration.
Also, I'd really love the ability to make simulated switches without having to open up the IDE.
Oh I can make simulated switches in app now. Once I made one I had the Virtual Device Creator. Just type in a name in there
@@AutomateYourLife Is there a guide for this that you could share?
Hi Brian, my respect to you and your channel. I appreciate your content and all the advise you give your followers. If i come across a SmartThings hub 3 should i buy it or consider another option. I am concerned that the SmartThings hub stops working for being discontinued. I apologize if you already answered this question. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Franklin! I don't see anything wrong with buying the V3 hub if you come across one on a good deal. They were regularly about $60-$70 USD so I wouldn't spend anymore than that as the Aeotec version of the V3 hub will be coming out very soon.
@@AutomateYourLife thank you Brian
Affiliate link, but here's the new ST hub available on pre-order: popp.to/?ref=AYL
Transition device = something so expensive and niche that it will never come to market.
Oh not in this case! JetBot is selling in Korea right away.
Can I operate my Google home mini with Smarthings?
It's more the other way. Right now, your Google Home Mini can control SmartThings devices. :)
In the future, I think so!
the sad thing is , galaxy smart tag only works with samsung phone.
Yeahhhh I'm wondering with the end of Tizen and the beginning of this better partnership if we don't see that change quickly.
Hi, do you happen to know if there is an option to reduce to radius of the location when the smartthings identify when you are at home or away ?
Right now I need to be very far away from home until the system changes the security when I'm away
So the smallest radius I've seen is Life360. You'd have to take that through IFTTT though.
@@AutomateYourLife I see, too bad it cost money
My Nest Hello now works Alexa very pleased
Yessssss!
Samsung to you: "You lose, you get nothing, good day to you sir"
LOL
So sad
So Samsung is going from pet care! Samsung Brian care. Well good luck cleaning up after you. LMAO and by the way whoever gives you one thumb down you ought to send Alan after.....
Ahahahahaha I will send Bot Handy! Alan is too nice. 🤦
You mentioned that those new Samsung TVs have a camera embedded. Of course they do not. They are selling a HD camera accessory.
I'm sure they are...sorry if I was wrong there!
Since google just threatened Australia with cutting off their internet services, let's see what happens haha
This is something we need to chat about next week...I tell ya. What a story.
Appreciate all your hard work and content, quick question if it hasn’t already been addressed, I have a few SmartThings cameras that do not show correctly in google home, will that change now they are working together or does anyone know a work around already? Would like to stream them to my display devices just like my Wyze (work decent) and nest cams. Thanks!
Sadly, I don't know that this will change anytime soon. It's actually the one side of everything that isn't being worked on just yet. So...I'd like to say that will get resolved, but I've heard nothing. :(
@@AutomateYourLife appreciate your response! Will just wait patiently to see if they fix it.
That Vacuum looks like a normal out school one with the handle chopped off it
LOL!!!
So will Google Nest Secure work on SmartThings now?
Nope. That's one of the ones exempt. I showed what else in the video!
Shame on Samsung.. You make great videos and have a nice sub base.
Right!? I dunno why anymore. I've had a few media contacts but never anyone wanting to send a product!
All I want is a voice controlled microwave available in Canada. I am having difficulty seeing the keypad and the display as I am severely visually impaired.
Maybe it makes sense to import an Amazon Alexa enabled Smart Oven?
Isn’t there an Amazon basics microwave with Alexa?
Thank you for your video, can you help/make a video about Window shades or curtains that are compatible with smartthings? And to add in routines and scenes.
Many thanks for your time
Thanks Ehab! We'll make more in the future, but for now check out this one that works with ST: ua-cam.com/video/FmVg11zTfpE/v-deo.html
@@AutomateYourLife thank you so much for your prompt response! Will look into it, nto sure how i missed it, i watch most your videos 😅 brilliant keep it up!
Thank you so much!
Hello Brian, was thinking using my smartthings motion sensor upstairs as a temperature sensor with my nest thermostat downstairs, now when you said they merged if we can call it this way. But smartthings wants me to migrate nest to google. I don't have too many nest/google devices. Once I migrate, will I lose thermostat on nest app? Kind of scared doing it
You won't lose the Thermostat as far as I know. The last time I tried it, it was still in the Nest app. It's time to migrate anyways Paul...you're starting to miss out!
@@AutomateYourLife let's see what happens 🙈 its on you if anything 😜
Got itttt! Nest is same as it was in the app as you said, and it showed up in smartthings
Now, let's automate! 😎
Nice i will update my SmartThings app.
Great 👍
Thanks. 👍
Thank you!
Did you make your own shirt 127.0.0.1
sadly, I didn't make that one!
I think that one's a busted tees one
Finally might get to buy SmartThings sensor, supplier has them available for pre-order 😬 late Feb/March 🤔
@@grantos8276 who??
How to connect ?? In samsung thing app
Android Auto? Settings Gear icon in the main menu 😀
@@AutomateYourLife not found any new option now..
Update your app. Might not be available yet for you though
