I've been enjoying your videos in my struggle for employment in medical coding. Unfortunately or fortunately my path has strayed....
I have not worked in a medical office for ten years and I went for my CPC-A. Not too hard really. I thought this would demonstrate my ability to learn, my knowledge of A & P and medical terminology. I applied for nineteen entry level medical office positions and was called back for none of them. The area where I'm job hunting prefers EHR experience or college. Not being to thrilled about the idea of paying for two years of college to get a clerical position, and slightly desperate for employment with benefits, I took a CNA (certified nurse aide) course. I was hired to the first CNA position I applied for. Hooray. I'm now making more money than a clerk and they will reimburse my tuition if I decide to go college to be an RN. Not bad.
I am still very much interested in coding and if I ever move somewhere where working remotely is preferable to driving (like Vermont in winter) I will definitely go back to coding.
Thank you for sharing your journey and ideas with us. You gave me plenty to think about.
I wish you best of luck in whatever path you choose.

Thank you, Kate, this was a gold video for me, two months ago I started working for a law firm as a Facility Specialist I am calling every day to obtain Medical records at different facilities but suffice it to say that I am very far away from being a specialist, previous to this job I didn't know that it was something called Medical Records, I believe I will be consuming all your videos to get a better idea of what the different type of records are and I guess I will learn a lot about all of the jargon used in this field. On my first day, I called a facility and I said Hey! My name is .... and I need to send a medical records request to your facility and I would like to have the fax number to send the request, then she asked ....... sure .. what kind of records? and I was like ......... listen!..... it is my first day in here so......... why don't you send me aaaaalllll the records?......

Im 21, and I work in retail right now and am looking for something completely different for my life and i am interested in this career. Would this be something that I should put in a application for? Even though I have no previous experience in anything remotely like this. Im a fast learner and a hard worker. Im just wondering if someone like me can do something like this. Or if I would be unqualified for this position without schooling or previous experience.

Informative video! I wonder if this is a good career choice for me if I speak English as a secondary language? I am registered nurse and my English skills are alright but it might not be as good and accurate as that of a native speaker, do you have colleagues who are non-native speakers? Would appreciate any inputs:)

Hello Coding with Kate. Thank you so much for posting the following video. I am a second year graduate student studying information technology with a specialization in health informatics. I would like to know if I may interview you for a health information technician assignment. The assignment includes 4 questions and if you would like to remain anonymous, you can. The questions are pertaining to EHR and medical coding. Please let me know whether you are interested. Looking forward to your response and thank you. I hope that you are having a great day.
