- This piece is part of a Mass of composer Sir Karl Jenkins with the title "The Armed Man (Subtitle A Mass for Peace). The Mass was commissioned by the Royal Armories Museum for the Millennium celebrations, to mark the museum's move from London to Leeds, and it was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. Like Benjamin Britten's War Requiem before it, it is essentially an anti-war piece and is based on the Catholic Mass, which Jenkins combines with other sources, principally the 15th-century folk song "L'homme armé" in the first and last movements . It was written for SATB chorus with soloists (soprano and muezzin) and a symphonic orchestra.
I improvised on a piano score. I had to improvise because of the compass from the organ. The manuals are both in the lower notes and the higher notes too short. I had to shift the accompaniment an octave up while I had to play some notes from the right hand an octave lower. That made it a bit inconvinient to play (the hands crossed a lot), but I managed to reach the end of the piece without damage! :-). I hope you like this wonderful piece.

Beautifully registered and played! The Dutch registration gives a unique sense of calmness and peace.
Thanks! Wonderful music indeed!
It's nice you play a piece for peace at these troubled times!
Thanks Vidas!
It looks like you were playing the Aleksey Agdeev arrangement (musescore) and the adaptations you made to be able to play the piece on the organ are really most effective, Rien. A beautiful performance with a very 'Dutch' registration choice on this gorgeous sample set making for a haunting rendition: bravo!
Thanks Graham! Again a piece where finding the right registration and playing style, took more time than learning the piece.

Good to hear something else than his Pie Jesu :)
Agree. Hahaha. I’m not allowed to play “Fanfare” from Lemmens you told me before. I shall put Pie Jesu on the list too! :-)
Very nice music. What was the disposition?
Follows in Dm!
A valuable arrangement of this wonderful work. For those interested in the composer, only yesterday I came across this ua-cam.com/video/2oUt5IZR_Uk/v-deo.html
