  • Taggers like to etch into glass because the damage (tag) typically stays there for so long as opposed to typical graffiti which is often quickly painted over or removed.
    The reason the tags usually stay for so long is because glass replacement can be very costly.
    Removing the scratches by resurfacing the glass is something not a lot of people even realize is possible and those that are aware have often seen "repairs" using inferior technology or perhaps skill. Either way they have seen enough heavily distorted "fun house effect" repairs to be justified in thing glass repair is not a good option. The thing is, a good repair should look nothing was ever done to it.
    If you have etched or scratched glass that needs resurfacing please check out our website or give us a call today!

    What grit did you start with? When I do headlights that are really bad, I start with 80-120. Does it really need to be started that low, or can I start with a 400? The scratches are on the bottom of glass door, so pretty sure it was a dog.
    Also, can I just do the bottom part? Or do I have to do whole door.

      If is reply is too late, I apologize. As far as starting grit, I find it best to remove the initial damage as quickly as possible which often requires the more more aggressive grits. For dog scratches I typically start off with 120, sometimes 80 if they're deep. It's hard to know without seeing.

      Polishing with cerium oxide and a felt pad is the best DIY solution. If the scratches are too deep to remove with that silicon carbide sanding discs will be needed. With that it's very easy to cause further, irreversible damage however, so best to hire a professional at that point

    • @fixscratchedglass
      @fixscratchedglass  3 роки тому +2

      The rotational marks likely come from a low grade polishing compound. Either that or the swirls where left behind during an incomplete polishing prep, and are just being revealed once the rest of the glass is clear.

    your using abrasive pads on patio door tempered glass and it doesnt blow up the glass first time i see this i was a glass cutter n installer for many years n this is the first time this is done to a tempered glass unless thats plate glass which was illegal to use in entrance ways cause the heat on the glass would have popped the glass

    • @fixscratchedglass
      @fixscratchedglass  7 років тому +2

      Betta Gene you're right, this is tempered glass. I like in California, so 90% of the glass I work on is tempered.

    • @reefman46
      @reefman46 7 років тому +1

      i remember when i was an installer when people wanted us to buff out scratches on tempered glass i use to tell them i would if they sign a form stating it is not my fault if the glass pops that we are not responsible cause 1 out of 5 doors will blow up in your face if that glass get to hot cause i have tried to pop tempered glass by laying it on the floor n throwing a hammer on the center n it would not pop but tap the corner just a touch n it blows up quick aaaaaaaahh god old days i miss it

    • @jamesbowie7776
      @jamesbowie7776 4 роки тому

      As long as you don’t allow the glass to get to hot it’s perfectly fine to work on tempered glass, constantly checking the temp & making sure you don’t push to hard & create to much friction & heat. Most panes of glass are weak on the edges that’s usually the weakest part
