- Ratchet: Deadlocked. A game that broke the status quo in the most awesome way possible. So what’s say we tackle such an awesome game with a truly awesome weapon? It’s time for ALL the fun as we try and beat Ratchet: Deadlocked with only the Scorpion Flail!
DETAILED RULES:
- No weapon listed under the “Weapons” menu may be used at any point, other than the Scorpion Flail and all of its upgraded forms
- The Omniwrench may not be used at any point, except to turn bolt cranks, or to perform advanced movement techniques (speedrunning tricks) provided that doing so does not result in an enemy taking damage.
- Anything other than the Scorpion Flail capable of dealing damage is considered illegal unless deemed necessary to progress (turrets, vehicles, etc.).
Note: This run takes place in Challenge Mode a.k.a. New Game Plus
- The player must begin their Challenge Mode playthrough with the Scorpion Flail at V1, but may have their maximum HP level at any point

Honestly both types of runs have appeal. Super weird stuff requiring multiple glitches and tricks are fun, but mostly come down to constantly having new tricks and glitches to show off. Usually in combination with consulting the speedrunning community.
On the other hand, a straightforward but challenging run can make for a good story, especially if the video is built around just sharing the experience. Basically coming down to "I know it's possible, there's no obvious 'gotcha' moment where you need a different weapon, but what does that actually look like."

When I saw the title of the video, I was also thinking that it would be easy given how powerful the flail is. Once you said you were banning the weapon mods thats when I realized how hard this could get. Though one of the things that I thought would be an issue didn't seem to be for you, which was the flails limited ammo. Great job on the video, looking forward to the next one! :)

using 10 ammo mods on the flail wouldn't make the challenge easier or harder, unless you count being slightly less reliant of ammo pickups as cheating. also for a challenge suggestion can you beat ratchet and clank tools of destruction without rareatanium upgrades on any weapons, all weapons from vendors are encouraged to be used as id imagine takyon will be a long and boring bullet sponge of a boss fight.

I mean... technically you could get rid of Merc and Green by just joining in Player 2. They don't have to do anything; they just have to exist.

@@wickedraptor2651 Yes, but the only thing Player 2 is required to do is not stray too far from Player 1.

@@wickedraptor2651 Well he could always just zoom in on Player 1's view in editing. But it might have just been more tedious to do 1P2C the whole game.
Well, it's hard to put player two in and just pretend they don't exist.
Someone needs to pick up for everything that Merc and Green would be doing, and some required actions (such as launching grind rails) can't be done alone, not to mention having two players effectively gives the player infinite respawns unless they also remember to toss player 2 off a ledge whenever player 1 dies.
If someone figured out how to play the game truly solo (like modding the game), that'd be a challenge run in of itself.
Yes u can. I've done it. Also doing the jump turn attack will cause the flail to hit behind u before u slam it in front. Best weapon ever lol

Man i would give my left ball and liver to play ratchets 1-4 on pc. Played them when i had ps1and2 but now my whole library is on pc.
Great video ! Dispite playing this game for years now, I still learned new things and mechanics and the challenge by itself seemed really fun, good job !

Yeah I thought it'd be an easy run to showboat, but then you removed mods . . . on the edge of my seat for this one!
i dont even need to watch this to know the answer is yes that weapon is beyond bonkers with a few area mods, i was just going through a brand new save on 4 star difficulty with a friend and that flail hard carried the moment i bought it! we are doing ng+ on the hardest difficulty, yes we get blasted easily but that damn weapon is SMOKING enemies and bosses alike

Wait, the aiming tutorial with the Duals is skippable in NG+? How?
No alpha mods seems weird since you get them as you upgrade a weapon. I'd understand not switching them but not even the default ones seems eXXXtreme!
One major downside of Deadlocked runs being Challenge Mode is it makes something that is REQUIRED on NG into optional: Getting enough dread points to advance. I feel an later Deadlocked runs should at least try to cover them, which ones are possible, not possible, or irrelevant (vehicle only).
Both runs that are Difficult But Not Too Complex like this one and Giant Puzzle Boxes like Suck Cannon are good watches. I've even started my own runs of RaC1, I've done Bomb Glove and Pyrocitor only runs, with the additional goal of getting as many gold bolts and skill points as possible, and allowing their Gold upgrade once I bought it on Gemlik Base. I'm doing Blaster but the dev codes to unlock weapons have had some... interesting effects on how the game handles ammo for it. Anyway, I think Glove of Doom would be a real challenge of a run. I also notice you haven't done any RaC2 runs yet, maybe Bomb Glove there? Lack of a PDA would make plenty of parts more difficult though. I guess there's also Going Mobile, Wrench only or Lancer only.
Idea for a challenge run if you have not done it already the Vipers only but you are locked to first person

If I did a run like this, I would allow alpha mods but not omega mods.
