While a shadow priest can't out damage the top DPS class in the entire game, this video is about out-damaging a shadow-spec Destro lock, not a BM hunter.
A big part of Shadow priest was also to snap shot your DoTs when popping your trinkets , not that it will touch the warlock but it will still help out a bit more.
Absolutely, there's so much more complexity to the spriest's rotation so I have no doubt a very experience shadow priest could probably do better numbers than me though admittedly not beat the warlock

This Shadow Versus was logical and fun, whatever the outcome :)) even more with the recap at each video you don't have to watch if you don't to (y)
The outcome was never in question, but it was fun to see my DPS wasn't too far off your numbers. The merit of Shadowpriests are the mana- and healthgains, leading to being about two-thirds as good in pure DPS.
Did your test for the shadow priest simulate the improved shadow bolt proc from warlocks critting? It's a fairly significant boost for the SP, not enough to win but with a few locks in the group it can have high uptime and give a potential 20% more SP dmg.
Btw I wanted to point out that normally when you are fighting a boss in wow they have dodge chance when hitting it behind from melee, but I believe if the boss is stunned they cannot dodge. So if you do melee comparisons they will do more damage because of that.
having a full group which needs healing and mana would be much cooler but hey wouldnt know how to set this up to be consistent :D as shadow is a utility specc for your raid rather then top dps would be nice to see where shadow shines in contrast to the lack of damage
And that, folks, is what scaling is in a nutshell. Spriest benefits next to none with haste or crit so raw spell power is the only thing they really take advantage of wheres Locks continue to scale across the board. *That being said* what a Spriest lacks in personal damage is more than making up for it vicariously through other mana users in the group.
I love these comparisons. Could you do one with the affliction warlock next? I love the spec and I plan to do it in BC servers, even if my DPS is worse.
Back in TBC i collected all chance on spellhit items with my warlock. Some items had "chance on hit: +Spellhaste". Haste procs increased the uptime of each other. If I'm not mistaken the Warlock was the "Heroic" class of TBC. Where you see Warriors and Mages in Classic, with the Death Knight in WotLK, Warlocks was the big one in TBC.
Bm hunter versus survival hunter would be really nice to see. Bm hunter obviously will do more but since i like pvp a lot it would be nice to see how far behind i would be raiding as a survival hunter.
Hey Hamsterwheel, what would you say is your #1 private server recommendation for my wife and I who want to level on wow together. We want a difficult leveling experience ideally with definitely x1 xp. We played classic wow for quite a bit and enjoyed it and would be open to it again! Thanks!
I think your test might be a bit in favor of the destruction lock for 2 reasons: 1. The druid and shaman crit buffs on the same party, benefit the lock a loooooot more since they have Ruin, all spells used can crit and proc shadow vulnaribility that increase damage by 20%. Not wrong, just a note on the setup. 2. Which segways to the more important reason. The lock is benefitting for priest shadow weaving but priest doesn't seem to have the shadow vulnaribility proc on his test. On a raid setup they would benefit from both debuffs and 20% dmg increase for the priest would increase the dps by 100-200. The end result would not change, lock still better for dps anyway. Very interesting video, thanks for doing it!
there are many people warriors who claim that arms mace spec only deals slightly less damage than the sword spec and they raid as a mace spec arms warrior. i would definitely like a comparison between the two. i would also like the arms vs fury warrior showdown to see which is actually better as a raw DPS.
SP suffers from several things: DoTs can't crit Mind Flay can't crit. Range is only 24 yards after talents. Only MB and SW:D can crit, but only for 150%. The latter damages you as well. They are, ironically, mana inefficient as hell
It's not , and when u going raid u have only 32 slots of debuf, that's why nobody allow u to use your "weak" DOTs on boss because of there are much more important DOTs from another classes

How Afli lock can out dps Destro (even in early t4) if Afli doing almost same damage as Shadow priest. Btw it would be much more interesting to see Afli lock vs Shp ( DOT damage masters ) than 21/40 vs Shp, coz results where obvious
Shadow doesn't scale at all with haste, and very little with crit. If dots could crit and gain benefit from haste, it would have been a much better situation.
I think you should really run this tests with the last phase being absolute BIS gear for each class regardless of weather it is part of the tier 6 set or not.
Well these series aren't exactly a clear answer because its not a 'realistic' raiding scenario. I mean I can just sit there and do my rotation, not have to worry about threat, not having to move around or whatever :) But to some extent there is a core of truth in these
My knowledge is limited but I thought shadow warlock was one of if not the best pure DPS in TBC, but spriest offers invaluable utility being a mana battery with vampiric touch.
Absolutely, what people need to keep in mind is that warlocks are amazing in dps partially because of classes in their raid that might not be able to keep up with them. For instance shadow priests and also elemental shamans, who make the warlock do +2000 dps
Hamsterwheel I get that I really do, and I’m not being critical or disparaging the test in the slightest I really enjoy the videos and find them fascinating, most of my understanding of vanilla/TBC comes from yours and other youtubers videos and the little bit of time I played on private servers, and it just seemed somewhat skewed as a top DPS vs a class offering some of the best utility was all I was thinking.
Shadow Priest: Gotta perfect the rotation, maximise the duration of debuffs, reapply when trinket, time the flay into word hits, perfect play, 1.1k dps Warlock: Hehe shadow bolt 7k crits go BRRRRRRRRRRRR
due to rogues not having top tier dps until much later on and offering very little utility they will probably only have 1 raid slot in progression. wars dps isnt near what it was in classic so you will likely see 1 fury & 1 arms for utility and then tank wars in the beginning of TBC which get outshined later by bears.
as the person above me said, there's only a single slot for a rogue and a total of 2 slots for warriors. when sunwell comes out, the MT warrior switches into one of the needed DPS specs (if you have an arms warrior in your raid, then the MT warrior switches into fury) and feral (or prot pal) takes the spot as a raid MT and they reign supreme over the other 2 tanks in sunwell due to removal of crushing blows. rogues are HORRIBLE before BT but i would like to invest into one rogue regardless as it makes council fight much easier and you have a really good glaive wielder that can dish out a lot of DPS later on.
So based on this and your previous fire lock video, Fire locks actually do more dps before t6 (assuming there is an improved scorch on the boss)... interesting
I don't recall what the lock brings to the party table, but doesn't the shadowpriest give both mana and health regen for the group? I know its not strictly dps, but its utility which shouldn't be overlooked
Locks bring ,healthstones, stam buff of they use imp(usually not tho), curses for extra dmg for the raid, summons, banish for demons, oh and u need one to tank the boss in SSC.
so warlocks bring the following: 1) 3x healthstone total 2) soulstone for every warlock 3) summoning, making everything go much smoother 4) affliction warlock can use a pet for stamina 5) fire and shadow resistance spell tanks (you need one of these for every raid tier) 6) curses 7) banish is invaluable in TBC and one of the best CC abilities (if not the best) shadow priests bring the following: 1) mana regen based on damage they're doing 2) raid-wise shadow damage debuff everything else is provided by heal priests warlocks are just too good in TBC in PVE and alongside shamans, they're the most demanded class in TBC, as you ideally want 5 shamans and 4-5 warlocks in your raid setup.
@@LikeVenom18 And SP brings a 15% increased shadow damage bonus to the raid. -Buffs -Shackle cc Needed in Kara -Fear ward -Ability to ress/heal/shield if needed -Single or aoe Dispel. -Better treatcontrol, less manahungry than lock, cause of life-tap, and can use fade to dump threat. Nontheless both classes are in high demand, and are often needed 🙂
It is insane how huge the dmg difference is. Ye sure SP is a mana battery but that should not make the diff 1k dps it is insane! How Blizzard thought here is for me a big riddle!
because a shadow priest was never aimed to be a competitive DPS but a support class. they give mana based on how much shadow damage they're doing and that's why they're so good in TBC. a far more relevant comparison would be a shadow priest vs balance druid, as both specs fall into the same category, but a hybrid (like shadow priest or balance druid) can never contest a pure DPS (like warlock). there are some exceptions however (like rogues early on), but even those exceptions surpass the hybrid spec by a large margin later on
So far yeah haha, though there are classes that gain more dps out of better gear than others. Shadow Destro lock dps in blues is extremely weak, in that round it got crushed by the elemental shaman, fire destro lock and a bunch of others :)

2) soulstone for every warlock
3) summoning, making everything go much smoother
4) affliction warlock can use a pet for stamina
5) fire and shadow resistance spell tanks (you need one of these for every raid tier)
6) curses
7) banish is invaluable in TBC and one of the best CC abilities (if not the best)
shadow priests bring the following:
1) mana regen based on damage they're doing
2) raid-wise shadow damage debuff
everything else is provided by heal priests
warlocks are just too good in TBC in PVE and alongside shamans, they're the most demanded class in TBC, as you ideally want 5 shamans and 4-5 warlocks in your raid setup.
@@LikeVenom18 And SP brings a 15% increased shadow damage bonus to the raid.
-Buffs
-Shackle cc Needed in Kara
-Fear ward
-Ability to ress/heal/shield if needed
-Single or aoe Dispel.
Finish off warlock with Demo vs BM for pet specs.
When is next video coming?
1 button won VS 5-6 buttons.
Sometimes i wonder if developers are even testing their game, and this is not the only example.
because a shadow priest was never aimed to be a competitive DPS but a support class. they give mana based on how much shadow damage they're doing and that's why they're so good in TBC. a far more relevant comparison would be a shadow priest vs balance druid, as both specs fall into the same category, but a hybrid (like shadow priest or balance druid) can never contest a pure DPS (like warlock). there are some exceptions however (like rogues early on), but even those exceptions surpass the hybrid spec by a large margin later on
Would like to see, ele shaman feral druid or even enhance shaman dps
Shadow destro would be keeping corruption and isolated up 100%, every Sim shows that's a dps increase except in specific circumstances.
It’s basically who ever pulls ahead out of round 1 takes the cake lol. So far anyway
So far yeah haha, though there are classes that gain more dps out of better gear than others. Shadow Destro lock dps in blues is extremely weak, in that round it got crushed by the elemental shaman, fire destro lock and a bunch of others :)
Umm that felhunter lock staff is something I've never seen before. Possibly the coolest weapon in TBC?
One of, it's the staff that drops off of Illidan in Black Temple
@@HamsterWheelGaming While I dabbled in TBC back in the day I never played through the content, other than running dungeons leveling in retail. This is going to be a fresh experience. The warlock is winning so far in terms of the cool factor.
👍👍👍👍
These numbers are definitely not accurate to classic TBC. Warlocks are already doing 1800-2K with Full P1 BiS and Shadow Priest are doing 12-1400 DPS.
I dont think shadow will do that much dps because he is probably stuck in the healer grp.
can we see maybe a feral druid?
What about horde ret paladin vs alliance ret paladin?
i have a feeling single button spam hunter will beat the t6 shadow lock by a lot
Shadow priest should've been undead for racial spell to do damage=) Since that haste troll racial is not beneficial at all.
At 1k dps the spriest will be giving 250 mp5 to all group members and doing up to 750 hps, thats pretty spicy!
Absolutely, so while they're not top dps they are super useful in terms of utility!
When your rotation is spamming one button lol
Oh a new video... I WONDER WHO'S GOING TO WIN
Its the one who does shadow damage!
Do I see curse of elements up???
can you do rogue vs warrior or feral
moonkin vs arcane next?
Dude i’ve been pretty set on rolling warlock in classic tbc for a while now
Hunter next?
