    I followed conventional advice, healthy whole grain, avoid fat, fruit, food pyramid, etc. I got fatter and sicker. One day, I found a posting from an Irish dietision that claimed my problem and the same results. She checked her class notes. One statement from a Bio Chem professor was: Iinsulin is the primary fat storage hormone. She ditched carbs, and all came right. I did the same with the same results. That led to Berry, Baker, Davis, Unwin, Wortman, and others. I'm glad Duke U. has the good sense to keep this excellent doc!

    I love your content and feel my knowledgeable about Keto/ proper diet has grown immensely since binging on your channel, however, what I appreciate the most about your videos is…no profanity. 😮
    I’ve never heard you say a curse word and I feel confident sharing your videos with anyone without giving a disclaimer.
    THANK YOU for using clean adjectives. It is a refreshing blessing to not have my spirit junked up with trash vocabulary while trying to heal from food addiction. Thank Dr. Westam

    I especially appreciate that Dr Westman is not adversorial. He admits other regimes might work. And he has a good-humored attitude to the structural stupidity of mainstream medicine. Other people get cultish about keto. They'll denounce doctors as "liars" and crooks rather than seeing them as (generally) well-meaning parts of an inadequate system.

    As you know, there is no targeting process for "belly fat" specific. Some people will lose fat everywhere else first.

    • @DrAJ_LatinAmerica
      @DrAJ_LatinAmerica 2 роки тому +3

      @JamieForReal, MLIS Keep in mind "belly fat" can be subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. In many studies, lots of women will lose fat in legs, breast or glute areas but they lose in the belly area. There is a certain genetic component to fat loss as well as many lifestyle factors, cortisol levels, is the person exercising or just dieting,..... lots of nuances. That said, the only thing that holds true, is no diet or exercise will specifically target the belly without affecting other areas of the body. Dr. Westman is a good guy, no need to resort to click bait tittles

    • @DrAJ_LatinAmerica
      @DrAJ_LatinAmerica 2 роки тому +1

      @JamieForReal, MLIS As I said, Dr. Westman a good guy. Not really "his" program. It is a general keto philosophy that has been around a long time. Yes, works great for many people. I use Keto and Carnivore in my practice for many patients. For others I use other programs. All depends on the person's Age, race, goals, lifestyle,.......many options. Only suggesting the title should be more along the lines of "Weight loss in General".

    • @DrAJ_LatinAmerica
      @DrAJ_LatinAmerica 2 роки тому

      @JamieForReal, MLIS YES, you hit the nail on the head with "contradictory advice". Absolutely because we are taking about humans who bring with them emotional, financial and other issues. Plus, there are cases like studies I have done with groups of people were they lost weight and improved all health markers on a cupcake diet. (not recommended but works). These types of studies confuse people if they do not have the control and will power to maintain strict compliance. Even did a bread, seed oil, sugar diet with same results, everyone lost weight and better health markers (sure, short term, again not recommending it). So the general public see these things and take out of context. Absolutely agree, lots of confusion, conflict and personalities. Content and context is critical. Great to have this conversation and add to the algorithm of this channel. This channel needs more attention and followers. There are Muck Bag eating channels with a 3M+ followers, craziness. Serious health channels difficult to get off the ground.

    Everything Dr. Westman says is true. I have reversed my T2D with my A1c at 5.1 and fasting glucose in the 90's. Random blood glucose checks are below 120 and post-meal levels are usually between 120 and 130. At the same time, I lost about 25 kgs, went from 88 to 63.5, but here's the thing. I would be happier if I was around 67 kgs, but I'm not there. And I don't seem to be able to gain that extra 4 kgs. I have his book, and will have to read it again, especially the last phase, but the challenge is how to gain a few pounds without unbalancing your blood glucose. Oh, I'm off metformin for 3 months now, and I certainly don't want to have to go back.

      ps, if possible, make that weight gain muscle. I have found light to moderate weight lifting workouts and long walks to be helpful building muscle. I increased egg consumption, too. It's a gradual process. It's a challenge that everyone has to figure out what works best for them.

    I just don't know what to do. In my rural area all health providers seem "traditional" aka ill-informed. Had to have the LDL talk today. My #s are great IMO. Tri 104, HDL 63 & LDL 185 (Had been Tri 305, HDL 45 & LDL 167.) At intake one question was "Do you eat a healthy low fat diet?" I, of course, said no, there's no such thing. When the LDL talk came up, the provider stated "I'm here to educate you". How the $#@ can someone without the information educate me? I explained that LDL is protective of the immune system and against all-cause mortality - particularly in my age group and older. (*I think she pitied me and kept repeating that she was there to educate me.)

How can I create a diverse microbiome while following a keto diet? Please help . . .

      They are bad on a Keto diet because they are so carby, but they are not bad in an ordinary diet.

      I should have phrased that better
      I eat a low carb diet and have gone from 220 pounds at 5'2 to 135 pounds and I ate pasta and potatoes the whole time but very little, more meats , lettuce and Avocado etc
      I wonder now that I am down the weight will it make me fat again if I eat them in moderation?

    I'm sorry, but I did try it your way. Eating as much as I liked of meat raised my blood sugar to the 160's plus, even though carbs were less than 20, and I gained 20 pounds. I have to keep my protein lower and increase the fat. We are NOT all the same.

    • @NostalgiNorden

      You have a protein limit on Keto.

      It’s possible you didn’t follow Dr. Westman’s protocol even though you think you did. We see this all the time. Dr. Westman runs a class called the Keto Made Simple Masterclass. Perhaps look at taking the class 😊

      @@AdaptYourLife I find it interesting that when something doesn't work for everyone, the reaction is almost without fail "You're doing it wrong". I got the same from my diabetes educator. "It can't fail, so you're doing it wrong." with the strong implication that I was lying.
