We HAVE To TAKE A Step BACKWARDS - PREPPING For Metal On Our BARNDOMINIUM
Вставка

- In this video, Greg, Erik, Dean and Sam work on prepping for the metal coming - they finish putting up sheathing, close the gap between the SIPs and the sheathing, stain the fascia boards and take a step backwards when they realize rain is coming before we are ready for it. We knew it was a possibility that it would rain before we were ready, but we were hoping we would be done before it got here. Rain is expected in the next couple of days, so we are tarping the roof-we don't want the SIPs to get wet. It's unfortunate and definitely feels like we are going backwards, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
After this, we will add the fascia, install the metal roof, windows and garage doors - And then, we will be dried in and can focus on the inside of our barndominium. Exciting, but stressful times! Thank you for following along with us!
We are building our barndominium - barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill. If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the first slab last summer, we milled most of the timbers needed over this past winter/spring, added plumbing, put in a second slab for our garage and now we have started building our barndominium - barnhouse - lodge - our home, with 8 bents going up being the first step in our excitement! After, we secured the bents, we added girts, SIPs and now we are prepping for metal so we can get dried in before the snow flies!
Here's the video where all 8 bents are put up in one day- it was pretty amazing:
• It's FINALLY Time To B...
Here's the video where we share our change in plans and decide to turn our barn into our home:
• EVERYTHING Had To CHAN...
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from @BarnGeek. We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home:
• Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
• Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
3 posts in the front
4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
It will have a 3 :12 pitch
Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

We Have To Take A Step Backwards - Prepping For Metal On Our Barndominium
October 2024
Hello ODW.. Thanks once again for the video project updating. Looking good, your project and being grateful for the people close to your lives that helped you..
It's definitely hard to take a step backwards, but a necessary step. It's to be expected- it is Fall. We've been very lucky with the weather this year and are thankful for that, but sure does sting to have to put up this tarp before we can install our metal roof. Now, onto hoping for some good weather so we can get this roof up next week! Wish us luck and we hope you enjoy this prep! 😁
You'll feel much better when the metal is on.
Its all looking great to me ...good that you already had the Tarps to cover the roof ..pain putting it on but less stress ..knowing all that perfect work is keeping dry when mother nature is doing her worst Best wishes again from France Roger & Marianne Chateau couer d Lion France
The project is looking real good. Thanks for the video.
When i have to do a job like you covering the Roof i call it a ..... " A Holding Action " makes me feel like i am not going backwards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Greg been watching your videos since been introduced by the Johnstons, great seeing your progress, I’m now binge watching all your previous videos
Couldn't you just have put the Ice and water shield and other underlayment on the roof? Thanks for sharing;t tiyks for sharing
You need to put ice and water shield on before the metal. Bit the bullet and get it on now.
Now I know why I was only hearing in my right hearing aid at the beginning. You will figure it out. That OSB does not like getting wet, glad you covered.
let me know how you fixed your audio. mine is still not right and settings was no help.
It just cleared up at the 21 minute left, I didn’t do anything.
I know all about set backs in building. I spent a full winter wet and snow while building a home. Everyday I was using a snow shovel or shop vac during construction. Get the roof on and things will go better for the remaining build.
When are you going to finish the Zip board with the Zip tape for all seams ??? That is a very important to insure water tightness over all the seams on the roof and walls before any wrap you may be appling ... Looking good so far...
the audio was just fine to me
The audio is a bit muted for me but I can still hear it. I have turn my volume up to 88 when most of the videos I watch at 62.
The house looks good but winter and snow are coming you might have 2 weeks so get the roof on now
That gap should have metal flashing
👍🏴
Doesnt sound right - Did you put the SIPs on wrong? Were the SIP panels to short?
What is going on with your audio over the last three uploads ???
What do you do for a living ?
why not put membrane on now, with battons
Why did show putting siding up on side little walls now zip system
🇳🇴👍👍
