I have been with this family from almost the beginning and I am starting if they will ever get to live in this old home ? All the hard work that they are doing , they must get frustrated some time..I don't think I would ever begin a project as hard as this.. The work they have done so far is great and sometimes beautiful.. I wish them all the luck kn their endeavour ..

That's a very, very thorough inspector you have monitoring your work. And what a lot of hard work it was too. As usual you've done a wonderful job. Well done! [I especially enjoyed the inspector's sign off signature(s), everyone will know you've passed with the highest marks.]

It makes me laugh that Anneke, (Catspector) had to walk over everything to make sure each step was done properly. You two are doing such a wonderful job.

You work so hard, If you get a Bull Float on a long pole, you can make your work nice and smooth. This will make it a lot better on your back too.

I would not sleep the night before a concrete pour like. I am imagining all the things that could go wrong. 😨 I felt better when I saw it was not a massive truck dumping it down a chute through an open window. It was a relief to see you had it all under control.

There is no need to remove rust from tempering steel
It is always rusty and that is intended 😉

    • @brechtvandormael1733

It's true, rust is even better tegen brand new steel for concrete work

    • @phillip8962
      @phillip8962 Годину тому

Yeah surface rust is not an issue. Only when the rust starts flaking is when you need to be concerned - but that takes many months before that starts to happen

1:12 : Ha! I recognized that thin plastic foil immediately. About the same stuff as sandwich bags.
Bought it once, and never repeated that mistake. Always went for the sturdier option. Much more manageable and fit-for-use.

Is it typical in Belgium to pour a concrete floor in two lifts? If so, please explain why. Do you use a concrete paste or bonding agent between layers? Are you going to install in-floor radiant heating in the top layer? Thank you for your attention to detail (e.g. descaling the reinforcing mesh prior to installation)!

Too bad you don't have fiberglass rebar at your suppliers.
Metal/steel rebar is a guarantee of the failure of any concrete and the number one cause of premature deterioration and failure in reinforced concrete construction
-for example, bridges, buildings, roads, foundations, and pads.
Untreated steel rebar arrives already rusting. Coated rebar rusts 8 you cut it and break the coating.
As well as the metal twist ties. It is the rusting process that eventually destroys reinforced concrete.
Metal, like steel, rusts in the presence of moisture and oxygen.
Concrete is porous and absorbs moisture, and oxygen is present in our atmosphere.
As the metal rusts, it expands, creating cracks that allow more moisture in, and more rust equals larger and larger cracks.
It eventually fails and breaks down.
😱 Luckily, it may take a lifetime for that to happen in your home.
We are presently having all our sidewalks, patios, driveways, and parking slabs replaced because of that failure because 8 years ago our home's previous owners used steel rebar that rusted.
This time I insisted that our concrete use only non-metal rebar, fiberglass with plastic ties, not metal.
Our contractor agreed and said he and most concrete contracts have switched over to fiberglass rebar for the exact reason stated above.
It might be something you look into for any future concrete projects.
We look forward to making more progress on the house. 😁
