I agree. Deriviere knocked it out the park. So many memorable moments. The drop in The Stom Boat. Sickest build-up in the Do Joe and the most amazing transition in Rising Up. The soundtrack, gameplay and art style on their own are all amazing and complement each other so well !
The rush I got when They're Back began. Instantly back to my childhood grinding out SOR2 with my mom :) 20+ years later I bought it for her on her Switch and she's now logged 300 hours into it!
HappyConsoleGamer sometimes I don’t want to leave the stage cause of the music. But what about how the music changes during a stage or how literally the music waits for you to proceed in the stage? Madness! Sega fan heaven!
Downloaded the soundtrack on spotify and cant stop listening to Funky HQ and The Underground. Top notch music from one of my favorite beat em up series. Owned the originals on the genesis and bought them again on the xbox one. Absolutely loving this game!
When Streets of Rage 2 came out in late 1992 and my cousin got it in early 1993, the first thing we did when put the game onto the Genesis is we went straight to the options and listen to the music. We did the same with Streets of Rage 3 when it came out in the summer of 1994 and now before I play Streets of Rage 4, I need to listen to the soundtrack. So far so good, I really enjoying the music.
From the very beginning of this I started crying! Streets of Rage has been my favorite video game series my whole life besides Street Fighter (SOR2 My fave) and being a die hard Sega Fan! Still the most beautiful music ever in a video game series! And this brings back all my happy memories as a teenager! I'm 44 now!
nice man, I'm a little bit younger but old enough to remember the genesis and NES being kings, and I was an NES kid so I didn't experience the SOR series until I messed around with emulators in high school. since then the soundtracks have been some of my favorite video game music ever, and made me appreciate beat em ups more in general.
Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima tracks are FIRE and tbh i'm really surprised how well other composers did, what a great OST! 53:27 is just awesome!
I love the gear shift from "They're Back" right into "The Streets" as soon as that car crashes. What a way to signify that, yes, this is the Streets of Rage you know and live but we do have some surprises in store for you.
The more I listen to the soundtrack, the more I love An Exhibition. It’s gotta be my favorite on the soundtrack and I feel it doesn’t get as much love as other tracks.
59:04 You can easily detect Yoko Shimomura's works like these a mile away thanks to her amazingly unique style. You could put it in a Mario & Luigi or Kingdom Hearts game and it wouldn't feel out of place.
In a world where almost every modern game feels more like a movie than a game, where almost every classic title became so boring and overproduced, where everything is about better graphics, this game feels so 90's with no effort at all. It doesn't feel like if they tried to make a retro game, it just feels original, feels like if they just wanted to make a videogame in the way that it's meant to be. PS. I'm a SNES fan, never played a Sega before, so don't think I'm just having a SoR nostalgia
It took until my second playthrough for the soundtrack to really grab me, but once it did I think it stands up very well against the classic tunes from the old games.
I think 25 Years Ago 01:21:30 might be one of the most underrated tracks, since the official soundtrack only includes a fraction of what you hear in game. The full song shifts from an arcade-like sound to a full on rave beat as you get closer to the concert and that was pretty neat. The whole soundtrack is phenomenal though!
I use to play beat em ups with my brother all the time in the late 80's to mid 90's. Sadly he passed away very young, but this game makes me feel like he's there with me. Thanks for the great game!
Olivier Deriviere's tracks are phenomenal. Call the Cops, Funky HQ, Storm Boat, An Exhibition, and Rising Up (especially Rising Up) are classics. Koshiro and Kawashima still chipped in a few tracks, but damn Deriviere would be a good composer to hand the reigns of the series off to.
Streets of rage 4 has definately made an incredible comeback, I'm really enjoying playing it, the soundtracks, the game play, that haven't ruined anything, what a game
The OST for this game is ridiculously good. I never played the originals but this game feels exactly like how i would imagine an arcade beat em up would feel. As a side note: i wish all devs would be more ambitious with their OSTs. Doom, Ghostrunner and SoR4 all clearly focused on their OST and it sounds amazing and its far from forgettable
If you haven’t heard the original SoR soundtracks they are really good too; especially 1 & 2. Even for just being done on Sega genesis they blow away other games of that era.
Agreed 100% dude. A really good OST can make an already great game phenomenal. SoR4, Doom 2016 and Ghostrunner all very clearly understood that and have amazing soundtracks.
I'm ready for Streets of Rage 5 "The Clan of XYZ" Upd. Thanks for the likes) Listening 3rd time this epic album of the year. Every single track is fresh and cool.
The stoy maybe that mr y snd ms y will escape from jail and planing to take over the city again with really dangerouse plan to create really powerful robot to destory the city. Its just i guess but i hope they make a fifth streets of rage game
Honestly i never play streets of rage on the sega genesis but i like the series.Ps3 was the console i grow up with. Like call of duty black ops, little big planet, god of war. I still have ps3 and i miss those times.
@@Habanero420 neat. I grew up with regular Nintendo in the mid 90s, then Genesis shortly after. I was introduced to Streets of Rage through Sega Channel. It was an adapter cart that hooked the Genesis to the cable outlet in the late 90s. So I never purchased many physical games for the system since they were all on cable for years. Later N64 won me over and so on.. My newest system is XBOX360. So PS3 doesn't seem old to me yet. Speaking of Genesis PS3 and 360 the Genesis Collection has the 3 streets of rage games. That's what inspired me to go buy a Genesis again, Genesis Collection for PS3 and 360 is A+, reminds me of Sega Channel, except the games don't change every month lol
Was my experience too! Have to give it to Deriviere, he's got a great mix of styles & moods here and his tracks are just as good if not better than those of YK and MK.
Same. I was underwhelmed at first, and then my second run I started hearing parts in the soundtrack that made me notice and think, "hey this part's pretty good" and by the third and fourth nights after playing there'd be tracks playing in my head. I definitely appreciate when music does that to me.
You know the game is epic when you are listening to the soundtrack after playing the game! Takes me back to when my brother and sister and I played the very first SoR in the 90s. Every track is a banger!
Motohiro Kawashima - Barbon is massively underrated. its definately a more subtle track but honestly almost every track is really growing on me the more times i play through.
Amazing selection of tracks as always Streets of Rage music has been great.👍 Nice to see Yuzo Koshiro, Motohiro Kawashima do a few tracks and i had a feeling that Shiva theme was done by the great Yoko Shimomura. Olivier has done awesome tracks to especially the "Storm Boat".
I seriously can't stop listening to this soundtrack! Olivier absolutely blew this out of the water, and Koshiro-san and the others did a phenomenal job as well. This is an amazing game that lives up to the Streets of Rage legacy. Great job, Sega & Dotemu and thank you for giving us SOR4!
So many Samurai in here, this soundtrack is fire, you know we're slicing that like button. Seriously though just like the original games, this soundtrack takes the best of the most recent musical sounds and creates an awesome atmosphere, from classic sounding stuff, all the way to synthwave.. Synthwave in SoR.. Perfect. 😎 Composers did a fantastic job.
I’m not really a gamer. But being a kid back in the 90’s this was the game! For them to remake it. Add such brightness to it. And give us this masterpiece. It’s a very simple “beat ‘em up” game. I just love it. Such a classic brought back with such class
I loved the theme of the twins since it has been inspired on Mister X theme, I also loved the laugh! Ha ha ha ha...! He is imitating Mister right there. (1:42).
Olivier Deriviere delivered it. Such responsability tô work along with these musicians, and he did very well I'm keeping up at the very same level. I'm looking up for more of his work from now on. He is outstanding!
I'd personally say he exceeded all of the other musicians. I was really hyped when I saw this game had an all-star cast of composers from other properties I'm familiar with but for the most part, the only songs I come back to in this game are by Olivier. Kind of wish he did the whole soundtrack, and look forward to hearing what more he does.
Ciro Lira it was. this is the best track out of the soundtrack. Just accept it people! People sleeping on this track tho. That 80s beat em up vibe. That bass is heavy with a sub. Got chills when mr. y popped up with the robot. Literally had to pause the game and turn it up! Too fire 🔥!
Some absolute bangers in this soundtrack, I love how the game modifies the soundtrack depending where you are in the game - Intro, They're back, The Streets, Storm Boat, Call the Cops, Funky HQ, Storm Boat, Rising up, Next of Kin showdown. Hard to know whether to punch or dance when playing this game
Gotta say, these SEGA-brand releases are hitting me real good in a nostalgic way. First, Sonic Mania, then the Sega Genesis Mini, and now we have Streets of Rage 4? I feel like a little kid discovering video games again...
Sega had nothing to do with this game as far as I am concerned, or did very little to almost nothing in the project. This game was dev by Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games
lajeandom I looked that up just now and it seems you’re right. But you mean to tell me that a bunch of different companies can make official sequels from other properties just like that? I imagine they at least got some consent from Sega or something like that.
Sega is selling rights to these companies to create a sequel. License is still owned by sega, but these companies bought the right to create this one game. If they ever wanted to create a new one, they'd need to extend the contract. Same situation occured with sonic mania and panzer dragoon remake.
Yes dawg. That whole level and theme got me so hype. The commisioners boss song is just the nail in the coffin. Superb soundtrack as well as the game too.
So ain't nobody gonna acknowledge how hard that commissioner track is??? I know it's hard to vibe to the track when he putting hands on you but it's definitely one of the best.
Listening to this soundtrack without any of the in-game distractions takes it to a whole new level. They've done a fantastic job, truly fantastic, but for me, Yozo Koshiro's samples stand out the most by far.
@_cloutedubz u cant just randomly assume he came from cxk. he might've liked this soundtrack without getting it from him. not gonna apologise if he was from cxk.
Some of my earliest and fondest memories are playing streets of rage with my dad. This game, and soundtrack are truly one of the greatest pleasures of my life. The creators really out did themselves here. At a loss for words. Thank you so much for this amazing game! 😭🙏❤️❤️
I am actively playing this game with my daughter. She loves it. And the fact that you can play as daughter and father certainly isn't a disadvantage either.
Storm Boat is my favorite track overall. It feels the most like the original games, especially when it picks up at 32:15 and the intensity goes through the roof. Love it! Second favorite is Rising Up when it picks up around 01:15:50. It's Extra is as well! 1:49:56
Oliver did a really good job on the soundtrack, some parts of his compositions make me feel thats something yuzo koshiro would compose, even I dont have an idea if hes familiar with synthwave or something!

58:22 when the Muy Thai fights pop out and flames circle you. Such a sick moment
My favorite part
Favorite game moment.
then u throw a cleaver at them 😆😆😆
I agree. Deriviere knocked it out the park. So many memorable moments. The drop in The Stom Boat. Sickest build-up in the Do Joe and the most amazing transition in Rising Up. The soundtrack, gameplay and art style on their own are all amazing and complement each other so well !
On Mania that shit was intense. They made you work to get to Shiva.
The rush I got when They're Back began. Instantly back to my childhood grinding out SOR2 with my mom :) 20+ years later I bought it for her on her Switch and she's now logged 300 hours into it!
'Rising Up' made me shed a tear, soooo good on how perfect it is.
Stayed up all night playing this felt like '92 all over again :D
Damn need to get that
Me too
Same. This game is so good. I played all day until i unlocked every character
@@JustChill0927 same was one heck of a ride

Olivier Deriviere has done amazing! Funky HQ 23:03
HappyConsoleGamer sometimes I don’t want to leave the stage cause of the music. But what about how the music changes during a stage or how literally the music waits for you to proceed in the stage? Madness! Sega fan heaven!
One of my faves for sure - wish the level was longer because of it. :)
Downloaded the soundtrack on spotify and cant stop listening to Funky HQ and The Underground. Top notch music from one of my favorite beat em up series. Owned the originals on the genesis and bought them again on the xbox one. Absolutely loving this game!
My absolute favorite track
Agreed! "An Exhibiition" at 01:08:04 is another absolutely brilliant track!
Yeppppp
I like dance music because of SOR2, it was that good :)
I remember playing streets of rage 2, when it first came. Bloody hell that was a long time ago now
the SoR 1-3 OSTs really use the mixture of 1988 and 1981 sound chips well
I can confirm that even after all these years Barbon is still a jerk.
I love how he looks like a jacked up Freddie Mercury lol
Barbon will make a Supersonic man out of you
I too, can confirm.
"C'MON!"
@@jking4854 lol, I see you SOR2
- C'mon, select your character already!
- But this soundtrack is soooooooo goooooooooood...
From the very beginning of this I started crying! Streets of Rage has been my favorite video game series my whole life besides Street Fighter (SOR2 My fave) and being a die hard Sega Fan! Still the most beautiful music ever in a video game series! And this brings back all my happy memories as a teenager! I'm 44 now!
YES! Did the same thing, and even remade SOR1 music
in a hardrock arrangement with my old band.
nice man, I'm a little bit younger but old enough to remember the genesis and NES being kings, and I was an NES kid so I didn't experience the SOR series until I messed around with emulators in high school. since then the soundtracks have been some of my favorite video game music ever, and made me appreciate beat em ups more in general.
Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima tracks are FIRE and tbh i'm really surprised how well other composers did, what a great OST! 53:27 is just awesome!
Great mix between new and old school
Really glad to see SoR coming back , and like this 💪
The elevator tune 1:16:30 is something else i get goose bumps and the feels of destroying manz
Deadman Dredd yesssssssssssss
You sir have good taste in music!
YES! Especially the transition at 1:09:18 . To die for
59:04 You can easily detect Yoko Shimomura's works like these a mile away thanks to her amazingly unique style. You could put it in a Mario & Luigi or Kingdom Hearts game and it wouldn't feel out of place.
Solar Flare [Who likes uploading SSBU replays] I get big Final Fantasy vibes from this one.
loved her work in Parasite Eve
48:20 This one is my favorite "on fire", when the guitar riff comes , wow brillant :)
Yeah, totally great track. And they managed to shove "Born to be wild" in there too :-)
I've got that track on repeat, it's so good!
They're Back: One of the Best Sounds in Video Game History
In a world where almost every modern game feels more like a movie than a game, where almost every classic title became so boring and overproduced, where everything is about better graphics, this game feels so 90's with no effort at all. It doesn't feel like if they tried to make a retro game, it just feels original, feels like if they just wanted to make a videogame in the way that it's meant to be.
PS. I'm a SNES fan, never played a Sega before, so don't think I'm just having a SoR nostalgia
There are lots of indies that don't fit that description...
@@juanche978 For example?
I'm telling you, the drop in "The Storm Boat" is the sickest thing in the whole game.
Hell yea. Shit really hypes you up the closer you get to the boss fight
32:19 to 33:25 Is my shit. But The Storm Boat caught my attention first on this game. Great Track
This track has Mother Russia Bleeds vibes
What do you mean by "the drop"? I don't listen to eloctronic music usually.
@@jsb7586 it usually means the climax or the exciting part
It took until my second playthrough for the soundtrack to really grab me, but once it did I think it stands up very well against the classic tunes from the old games.
The storm boat and the streets and next of a kin are my favorite tracks
The storm boat is amazing
It would be really hard to pick my favorites. I'm in love with this soundtrack.
John Knapp especially the second half!!! 😍😍
The stormboat SLAAAAAAPS
They go HARD!!
Borg is very sorry to hear this, Borg hopes it doesn’t make you too sad. Borg wishes you and your brother the best. 👍🏾
@@urLocalTurd thanks Borg 😊
My brother is still with me but I know exactly what you mean bc we used to crush streets back in the early 90's. It's nice that you have that memory.
🙏🏻
Olivier Deriviere's tracks are phenomenal. Call the Cops, Funky HQ, Storm Boat, An Exhibition, and Rising Up (especially Rising Up) are classics. Koshiro and Kawashima still chipped in a few tracks, but damn Deriviere would be a good composer to hand the reigns of the series off to.
U forgot Chow time, it's sound so great. Olivier did a very good worl on SOR4 yeah.
@@enorielenatsu5404 I can see Olivier with his lip curled reviewing that track. It’s got such attitude 🗣
Olivier Deriviere's tracks are 90's funky Euro techno tracks i love it
what about the Beat of "the Underground"
Lift the ground is pretty freakin awesome too, he should’ve also done the final boss
As a big fan of the first three, I'd like to say that this soundtrack pays great homage to it's predecessors. Very nice.
I agree. They did an excellent job.
Agreed
I think if you were more partial to the SoR 2 soundtrack you will be pleased but those like me who preferred SoR 1 will be left a little wanting.
@@neoneherefrom5836 this music poops on SOR1
is there any soundtrack thats a throwback to the first SoR?
That intro song is as 90s as it can get. Brings me back to rollerblading and super soakers
It just tells you this game is art
they did this perfect. they really took their time with this game and it shows
I see everybody talking about everything else but 8:49
If a song can make me and others laugh cry and dance from nostalgia you know that’s a good song
@@jonathanb.814 I've never played the original SoR games, but i'll give the old soundtracks a listen.
Gustavo Zamborlini im a PC guy but i’ll still probably end up buying them at some point
Agreed 100% dude. A really good OST can make an already great game phenomenal. SoR4, Doom 2016 and Ghostrunner all very clearly understood that and have amazing soundtracks.
I'm ready for Streets of Rage 5 "The Clan of XYZ"
Upd.
They may need a 6 button to win.
Streets of Rage 5: Final fight, because it'll be against Clan Z :)
That Chinatown (chapter 6) level song was so nostalgic!
This is a creeper. 1st time through the game your like "meh this is alright I guess". After the 10th your like "this soundtrack is SIIICK!"
Was my experience too! Have to give it to Deriviere, he's got a great mix of styles & moods here and his tracks are just as good if not better than those of YK and MK.
Well said. It's so true
Totally happened to me too.
Same. I was underwhelmed at first, and then my second run I started hearing parts in the soundtrack that made me notice and think, "hey this part's pretty good" and by the third and fourth nights after playing there'd be tracks playing in my head. I definitely appreciate when music does that to me.
Word...
That intro just instantly transport's you back to 92 😁
I literally get on this game and let the start menu play for 15 minutes before I actually start playing
Obsessed with the 1:15:37 tune. That was Floyd's Trailer I believe. So dope!
Level 857 Gotcha!
I fuckin waited for the full version after i heard it from the trailer
That beat get me so damn hype

My favorite too.
Level in the elevator ;)
Man at 21:15 when that beat changes up ...my god!! This soundtrack is damn sick!
This Oliever dude just made my day. I loved all of his tracks from this game.
My expectations for this game's OST were high but holy shit did they deliver
Amazing selection of tracks as always Streets of Rage music has been great.👍
Nice to see Yuzo Koshiro, Motohiro Kawashima do a few tracks and i had a feeling that Shiva theme was done by the great Yoko Shimomura.
Olivier has done awesome tracks to especially the "Storm Boat".
32:19 I like this soundtrack (on the elevator)
This is 100% the best moment!!
The track on the elevator dose hit diffrent! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I was going to say "Shiva's Theme" sounded like it was from Kingdom Hearts, and then I saw the composer in the list. Now that makes sense. :')

My favorite part started at 1:45:25
So many Samurai in here, this soundtrack is fire, you know we're slicing that like button.
Seriously though just like the original games, this soundtrack takes the best of the most recent musical sounds and creates an awesome atmosphere, from classic sounding stuff, all the way to synthwave.. Synthwave in SoR.. Perfect. 😎
Composers did a fantastic job.
Right, when you fight the Y Twins together at the end. I was pleasantly surprised.
1:15:36 That is some 80s/90s training montage music right there!
I’m not really a gamer. But being a kid back in the 90’s this was the game! For them to remake it. Add such brightness to it. And give us this masterpiece. It’s a very simple “beat ‘em up” game. I just love it. Such a classic brought back with such class
The storm boat song is my favorite!!!
I loved the theme of the twins since it has been inspired on Mister X theme, I also loved the laugh! Ha ha ha ha...! He is imitating Mister right there. (1:42).
Call the Cops is my favourite by far. I love how the beat syncs to the enemies opening the cell door!
1:45:18
Such an epic boss theme!! Would be kickass for just about any fight.
Even if it were in a GTA Vice City return!!
Sweet soundtrack for a sweet game.
Das Mörtal - Next of Kin Showdown : 01:45:18
Love the 80’s synth style of this one. Banger
That's the final boss theme and it's the best final boss theme of the entire series to me. Play that on a loud speaker with bass. That thing knocks
I think it was on Adam's trailer
Ciro Lira it was. this is the best track out of the soundtrack. Just accept it people! People sleeping on this track tho. That 80s beat em up vibe. That bass is heavy with a sub. Got chills when mr. y popped up with the robot. Literally had to pause the game and turn it up! Too fire 🔥!
Yes!!!!! OMG That beat change was epic!!
The Storm Boat is a masterpiece! wOw, second comes Do Joe.
It’s that main melody! What a track.
Rising up is phenomenal

@@user-nq2bm1sg5m Yep!!

7 months later and I still love this soundtrack, absolutely amazing! I listen to it everyday
Same here!
I am!
The boss music sounds like a fusion of industrial and new jack swing. Interesting, fun combination.
I love call the cops. The way it kicks in when the prison cell opens up is cool.
Yes dawg. That whole level and theme got me so hype. The commisioners boss song is just the nail in the coffin. Superb soundtrack as well as the game too.
Bruh, the beat is serious. Donovan be in the prison cell like "Let us out of here we bout to mess yall up".
Olivier Deriviere - Rising Up : 01:12:54 Olivier Deriviere - Lift the Ground : 01:29:48 Olivier Deriviere - Chow Time : 53:27 all bangers!!
So ain't nobody gonna acknowledge how hard that commissioner track is??? I know it's hard to vibe to the track when he putting hands on you but it's definitely one of the best.
Kujo 813 Yep!
My favourite boss theme on a triple draw, with Barbon and Mr. Y.

Rising up is the best track for me and shocked Yuzo didn't compose that one.
It’s the catchiest tune out if the whole bunch. And the map it played in was perfect. Russian bathhouse brawl. You just can’t go wrong.
