@JooJ As a brazilian studying russian i can confirm. Phonetically speaking they are very similar. Of course the alphabet is different, but generaly a brazilian wont have many difficulties with pronunciation. For instance the russian 'r' and 'u' sounds are typically confusing for a native english speaker, but for a portuguese speaker is just the same.

Here comes a long post but I beg of you non Brazilians to read it.
For non Brazilians here goes the context: Rafinha is one of the pioneers of modern stand up in the country, and at the time was one of three hosts of the, at the time, the show that disrupted completely the format of tv comedy by always going as far as possible in provoking corrupt politicians with surprise interviews, doing very important stories about outrageous inequalities throughout the country and giving comics a platform to show their talent nation wide (being in a non cable network). The singer in question not only is married to a guy who is close to a ton of big companies, tv network owners, soccer club owners and agents, and all the ones responsible for putting money on these shows, but also the daughter of an idolized country singer, and always supported by the biggest communications empire in the country (Globo) which pretty much controls tv journalism as a whole and had in this particular show, the only ratings losses in all possible hours, days and such.
The guy stood up for his right to freedom is speech but got no support from the show producers (due to popular support to the singer and threats from sponsors), the network got afraid of what Globo could do to them in branding hurtful strategies, his comic partners didn’t side with him claiming religious reasons, defending PC limits, and his co host was a personal friend of the singer’s husband.
The rest is pretty much whats he said in the video.
The guy got really screwed for at least some good 5 years by not being booked for stand up tours and even festivals he himself helped create and make popular. The general crowd in Brazil decided to really go against him due to media influence (even though he had previously made jokes way heavier, bolder and more controversial with most of them sharing all of it in social networks) and only recently he has been able to slowly get back on his feet by doing Netflix specials, his UA-cam channel and some tour dates.
Personally, I feel ashamed as a Brazilian that we get known for being really ignorant when it comes to free speech rights while having absurdly daily corruption scandals and even common citizens atitudes and not revolting against it. We were even able to elect a new president (which we had to for the last 16 years were ruled by the same party which was responsible for the biggest corruption cases of our modern history) that is clearly unqualified to even run a gift shop in a subway station, let alone a country as big and broke(n) like ours, not to mention already being linked to corruption scandals, possible ties to militia (police officers that, when off duty, join forces to profit from all trades from black market, to bribe slum citizens to provide them “safety”, control any form of services provided inside the slums, and to top it all frequently do hits by contract), defends torture practices done during our military dictatorship times, cuts a ton of civil rights, ignores the premise of a laic administration (being a radical Christian), to mention just a few things disclosed in only 2 months of presidency.
Seeing Rafinha on JRE makes me really happy for him. Hopefully now he gets his rewards after very harsh times in his career.
Sorry for the long post. But this case in particular really ticks me off.

One of them is amplifying world trends, while the US amplifies European (and first world) trends, Brazil amplifies third world trends, I myself come from a third-world country and I understood everything you said and yet because Brazil is so big everything gets multiplied to insane proportions.

Just stop it with this "I'm being persecuted because of my ideas". This thing to play the victim card is to reinforce that there's no freedom of speech in Brazil, which is a HUGE lie. Just turn the TV on and you'll see lots of people speaking their mind and getting away with it. The difference now is that the internet is part of public debate and everyone can give their opinion, despite of how dumb it should be. But definitely no, nobody would ever lose their belongings for giving an opinion!

We say things like "The supervisor is coming, you better get your white ass back to your machine" or ill say "Aye, boss man is coming, yall better get to singing and shuffling" and we laugh our asses off. Obviously we are particular about who hears us bc some are sensitive and do not understand context. But between us 5-6 guys, its literally hilarious. We were joking about the VA gov'r and his black face/clan suit. And they thought that shit was funny as hell because how do you fuck up sooooo bad as a white dude, you have to choose between being the dude dressed as a black guy or a clan member. lololol.

On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people.
While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there.

When you can't even vent, or argue your point, then the frustration of impotence starts buzzing in the brain.
And when your words haven't been heard, that buzz starts whispering about taking _action._

I just discovered Rafinha on UA-cam late last year.
I'm 60 years old, a woman, and off all the stuff I've heard him make jokes about...I knew that in my generation, very few would be offended by them, but I KNEW in this current generation of cry babies who's feelings get hurt so easily, that he probably had a lot of hate directed at him. I'm very sad to hear that it even went as far as law suits...that he Lost! Unbelievable. Seriously, if I hear an off colored, misogynistic, joke... I don't get offended as a woman. It's freaking joke...get over it. And often those jokes, while sometimes stereotypical ....are funny, just because they are stereotypical and often stereotypes happen because they are based upon true patterns of behavior. :P
