- This week I'm joined by comedian Rafi Bastos (@raficomedy). We discuss when we moved to America from Brazil, pioneering the stand up comedy scene in Brazil, opening up a comedy club in Brazil, gratitude, the humbling experience of coming to America, focusing on what you can control, romanticizing misery, the big cultural differences between Brazil and USA, the journalism TV show Rafi did in Brazil that contributed to the gratitude he has for life today, Rafi's experience hosting the Netflix show Ultimate Beastmaster, the first time Rafi came to USA in 1999 to play basketball which was the first time he saw stand up, being more confident on stage than in life, and so much more!
This was like watching an uncle sharing his life experiences and giving advices to his niece 😄
nice pfp
I'm sure uncle Rafinha will love that comment hahaha, a super cute niece btw
to the fans it feels like the uncle who made it abroad, his journey is quite inspirational to me
I'm happy to know Natalie`s channel. I clicked on the video because I wanted to see Rafinha speaking English, but Natalie was a good surprise!
thanks rafi, because of him, I accept my nose 12 years ago.
As once said, the nose was born, then the arms an legs grow
girls dig our big noses. small nose is ga
Rafi was one of the top 5! it's incrediable
Even just listening to him talk is very interesting and makes you pay attention, he is such a brilliant guy, when I discovered his comedy I was like what the fck, this guy is hilarious. Huge respect for him.
This was a nice surprise. I've been watching your clips for some time now. It's nice to see little Rafi in this episode, he's huge here in Brazil and he's killing it over there.
Following this guy since Página do Rafinha in the early 2000, hope he does it all again over there!
Tem que respeitar o Brasil !!! Dale Rafinha
"Little Rafi" rocks!
26:20 I'm literally the guy watching to learn english hahah

Me too
Voa!
The part about motivational speech was really helpful, thank you for that!
Que demais essa entrevista. Rafinha esta voando sucesso irmão.
And now this is what I've been waiting for since Rafinha started to get some regular audience in Brazil. Natalie is, by far, my currently favorite comedian in the US and Rafinha is one of Brazil's GOATs!
I follow Rafi since 2008 and saw Natalie clips on instagram a few weeks ago, love them both now
I've followed Rafinha's career since his TV early days back in Brazil, and this was such an endearing and humbling conversation. I could watch an entire afternoon of this. Great stuff and now I'll be following you on Twitch as well Nat. Thanks for the amazing content!
This is the biggest stand up comedian of all times in Brazil for sure! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Um episódio de crossover maravilhoso!
So cool! I love Natalie
It's great to get some background on Rafi. Worth subbing for this clip alone. Listening to this in London April 20th 2024 21:11pm
Amazing interview! A lot of feelings and experiences shared.

Amazing show!
Rafi is 💯💯💯💯, it takes some mad skills to do what he's doing.
"Little Rafa" 🤪 proved that his success in Brazil was not luck
Nice Rafinha ! You did it 👍🏼👊🏻
Such a entertaining interview 😌
EU AMO O RAFINHA
Boa Rafinha 🇧🇷🇧🇷
The biggest revelation from RBS

Thanks for the description. I like Rafinha so I guess it's going to be cool!
Natalie, I've watched a few of your videos... congrats! You really how to do it! 😊
Go Rafi goooo!!!!
You should invite a comedian named Pandji Pragiwaksono, he is a great comedian from Indonesia. He is currently based in NYC and has made more than 10 special shows. His last show was watched by more than 7500 people
Rafinha is fu**n great! Greetings from BR!
Rafi is the brazilian Jimmy Fallon, it's nice to watch him exchanging his experience with talented upcomers. I really loved the talk Nat, thank you for bringing a little piece of brazil on your show. I wish u nothing but the best.

Vai Brasil 🇧🇷🇧🇷
He was a pioneer of stand up in Brazil , it means he started in the 1920's.
Actualy the comedy in Brasil started late, 1950-60, but because the dictatorship between 1964-1985, the evolution was very slow with all the censorship of the dictators. Then, was a BOOM with comedy in television, and just in 2004-05 started the Stand Up culture here in Brasil. Now is the "Golden Age" of stand up with big names like Whindersson Nunes, Thiago Ventura and the "4 Amigos" (4 Friends), Renato Albani... They are huuuge online and sold out any theater in any city here.
@@rosembergmassocati9048 Well, unfortunately we don't have 1st amendment here, so we are suffering from censorship once again based on arbitrary "benevolence".
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK a parte do tarot tá maravilhosa
Grande Rafinha!!
18:00 - this whole topic is so deep, and this can be applied to any area of life not just work, or comedy, etc; Just adding my 20 cents here, I think we need to learn how to live those "life peaks", those huge moments and so on, but accept that its not forever, its not constant, its a peak. And its not bad, its a moment or a phase. And I think we also need to learn how to live the "low" phases of our lives, and understand that its also fine, these are the moments you rest a little bit, or you do those 5 steps back to then run even faster. And I say "we need to learn" because what happens is that, if we do not learn it, we feel anxious and you know, a lot of pressure that we need to keep that peak up forever, because we sort of get used to it, we feel like we can't be happy with less than that, and this is very dangerous. So yeah, thats really important to find a good balance between enjoying the "peaks", living the "lows", and enjoying the "average".
Rafinha ❤❤❤❤
So good Nat ! i loved to hear u both! hope you have all the success in the world :)
PORRA MUITO FODA!!! I'm fan of both
26:29 Yes, i'm a brazilian and i'm learning english. Nice!
There was stand up in Brazil before them, from comedians like Chico Anísio and Zé Vasconcelos. But it was from few ones, not so mainstream as today.
these you mentioned did mostly characters. stand up comedy did start more significantly with rafinha. of course we can always argue cavemen did before yada yada.
@@evoltaocao5078 nope, they did characters on TV, but also stand up in theaters. They even used to record the presentations and sell records. There was a best seller one by Chico Anisio in the 70s.
@@bearcb most of their work were characters on tv and rafinha was part of the popularization of stand up. if you want to be rigorously scientific about it you are also wrong cause i bet homo habilis also got jokes 200.000 years before chico.
@@evoltaocao5078 like I said above, there were few at the time, not mainstream as today. Learn to read.
@@bearcbas i said, layman, science is not in your favor. cave men did it first.
26:23 Yessssssssss
Rafinha comedy was never my cup of tea, but I really respect what he is doing.
He was big in Brazil and decided to start from zero in a different country. Kudos for him!
"Why did u move to the USA?", then he proceeds to almost drop the glass of water. Intense feelings
RAFINHA É PESADO !
Little Rafi!
👏👏👏👏
The "Let's have coffee" in Brazil remark missed an important point: here we have the famous "vamos marcar: e nunca ir" (Let's schedule it: and actually never go for it).
26:27 Aprender inglês com o Drácula, é pegado D:
I follow Rafinha since Youpix, I actually have a photo with him on insta, and I keep following untill this days, a real comedian, not the kind that we have now in Brazil, new gens.
Rafi could have talked about his experience at CQC and his joke with Wanessa.
He did it in another podcast, the one with Joe Rogan
Legenda.
Expectativa do Rafinha: "vou pros EUA conquistar um novo público"
Realidade do Rafinha: ele se muda pros EUA e a gente vai atrás. Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Voa, Rafinha!
😮❤❤❤❤
Rafinha no EUA virou Rafi kkkkkkkkkk
🇧🇷
niceee
rafinha tiozão kkkkk
Rafi Bastos is the brazilian Rafinha Bastos.

Introduce me to her, little Rafa! Please 😢

A mina que convidou o Rafinha é manera.

Rafinha its huge, here, in Brazil.
Not one mention of when he stole the moon or adopted his three daughters. Not even a mention of his wife Lucy. He'd be nothing without his minions.
Raphs voice in English sounds like an long time smoker
34:30 got curious and googled it, China has 0.9% of english speakers and Brazil has 5%
Talvez ele seja
Como assim sotaque de judeu? Existem judeus no mundo inteiro 🧐
Especialmente do Rio Grande do Sul.
"i'd like to start with, what was the best advice you ever recieved" missed oportunity to answer "so, when i arrived here, a friend told me to never use the N word, but never told me what the N word was"
about the tarot:
The Broken Glass means you are in a mental stagnation where you don't believe nothing from the cards...
and The Devil is gonna get you if you keep taking out those cards.
I hate US I'm here just to learn english haha 26:25
It's kind of nonsense to say that he was one of the pioneers of Standup in Brazil. Before him there was Chico Anísio, Jo Soares and Terça Insana.
None of these were doing stand-up comedy. Not in the sense that 'stand-up' is understood in America. They were more like 'sketch comedy' rather than stand-up comedy.
@@Gabriel-V-Silva Nah. You're wrong.
If this is not stand-up, I don't know what else is:
