- I explained why I did this testing at the start of the video, It's just another thing to watch out for while using this devise for rope soloing. Let me know what has happened to you guys while using this thing.

for sure i am waiting for your video on soloing...lead rope or top rope solo. i have no friends to come with me anymore so i need to learn this now. Thanks, really cool videos
At 13:00 I know what the problem is. I’ve done testing w the revo and did a video on how to get it to properly work. You have to be falling much faster and farther than you would w a grigri. This is because grigris use friction and the revo uses centripetal force. You need more rope before the backup knot. Also like you said, slab isn’t the best way to test it. Go on a roof climb on lead and free fall under the roof, it’ll lock much easier
Ya the slab definitely wasn't the best thing to test on, I'm going to tryout a few different settings in the future, thanks for the comment
I tested this today. I would not recommend the revo for top rope solo. The rope speed isn't fast enough through the device.
The device is excellent for normal sport climbing as the rope is going double the speed when the climber falls.
The revo break is also very weak with a new rope.
For the revo, my one experience with it was that it takes forever to catch you. Maybe not a bad device but I fell 7-10 feet each time. Not ideal at all for being near the ground or a ledge.
It is obvious that you were not free falling on the first drop, as we could easily see the legs walking down the rock, slowing down the fall. This is why it didn't lock. You must be going 4 m/sec.
I like the 2 rope idea.
You are correct about the weight compromising the locking device. Is anybody using this for top rope solo? That sounds like a nightmare, but lead solo works great.
The Revo is not recommended at all for top rope solo. As far as I’m concerned it’s worse than the gri Gri which is also not recommended. It’s a totally different ballgame with lead rope solo though. I think the Revo is reasonable for LRS (not a silent partner substitute but seems manageable). I recommend if you are going to experiment with LRS with the Revo, you mod one side with the spring mod on mountain project. I’ve seen tests showing it reduces the the catch distance by half basically. I recommend you message gunkclimber on UA-cam who has the most experience with it probably. First Person Beta also gave it a try recently to mixed results. There’s still difficulty getting it to feed which is resolved with a microtrax cache loop or back pack setup for the rope but I recommend you talk to those guys before more experimentation with lead.
Thanks, I'll check out the mod, but I'm not to interested in screwing around with my devise at the moment. I just feel like I'm going to break something and it won't catch me if I fall haha. Maybe I'll change my mind though...
Have you modified the revo? Apparently you can tighten the spring on one side so it catches extremely quickly making it much more useful for rope solos
It's 4 metres per second
Hahahah bro I just came by this video checking some revo stuff and it's so wild to me you are testing this 1000 feet up in the air. Why not hang a bit lower atleast, it would be the same test results no? 🤣😂.
Great background and test
