Love doesn't fade, passion does. The real scam is that the whole western world sells you passion and say that it's love when in fact what they show you is passion, love isn't a violent feeling, it's not wanting to make the other one yours, it's not wanting to be with the other one because you feel better that way. Love is essentialy benovelence toward an other person, its selfless (not egoistic like passion), and when it's reciprocated then you can feel the effect of real love, a relation between 2 persons where each party try to help the other grow up and become a better version of themself. But this definition is almost an ancient debris of an other civilization at this point, nowaday no one would teach you that.
The problem isn't that the concept of love is gone, it's just that the english language doesn't have the words for it. Language shapes culture. If the language lacks proper words to express something, the culture loses touch with the concept. The word you're talking about still exists in Greek, it's called "agape". In English it translates to "love", but in Greek we have a multitude of other words to define the other things that "love" seems to have gobbled up in the English language. When we speak of agape, we speak of what you're talking about, specifically.
@Ricdriquez Wilson Essentially. Agape is Charitable love. I think this interpretation is very fitting when talking about Echidna because the opposite of Greed is Charity. Greed is the sin and Charity is the heavenly virtue. When Echidna laments the fading nature of Love, she is inherently misunderstanding Love at its core. Charity is opposite to her nature, so she cannot understand the fundamental principle of Agape. For her, Love is to use and be used until there is nothing left. But Agape is neverending because its source is God Himself; it is infinite. It cannot fade, it cannot be spent, it is everlasting.
@Ricdriquez Wilson I'm pretty sure from the way Tappei wrote the chapter "Reason to Believe" he also read about the concept of Agape because one thing that is integral to understanding Agape is that it is integral to God's character. God doesn't have a reason to "love" us, He loves us because He loves us. Asking "why"? Is missing the point. Agape is freely given, it expects nothing in return, it has no motivation, it has no "why". It is instilled in us through God's nature and through Him we love each other. When Emilia asks Subaru over and over again: "Why?", "Why are you saying all these things?", "Why do you love me?". The only answer Subaru can give is that he loves her. He loves her because he loves her. That is all. It's so simple, yet so hard to grasp. She can ask him a thousand times and the answer will always be the same. That is why I think Echidna posits this question at the end of the arc. Why must love fade? Because your concept of love isn't love Echidna. Agape is love, and you'll never understand it.
Interest fades when you get bored. It makes sense why she would interpret it that way. I also believe this was how it was meant to be interpreted. this is a great character analysis. But i too am a nut for Echidna. I'd like to see a video of the Echidnas we get to see in arc 5 and 6. In my opinion we might learn more from her until Omega Echidna makes a new appearance. we know the Echidna in arc 6 is emotionally strong and capable of making tough choices. But she still fears death/ favors the safety of her host. She later acknowledges that "Subaru" isn't as bad of a person that she originally thought. Thinking he'll just betray everyone. Even tho we know that Subaru was actually possessed as well. She sees the progression of those around her. I'd imagine this is why she latched onto Anastasia in the first place. The two shared a strong mutual bond. Meaning she can relate to others. That alone shows us what kind of person she might have been when alive.

I know this is late, but this is such a great video! The point this video brings up of inherent greed is the main concept of the hedonic treadmill theory. Essentially, humans have a tendency to return to a hedonic set point (HSP) - which is different for everyone but nonetheless still there - a set “point” which determines baseline happiness. Any drastic event that brings upon great happiness or sadness that calls for large fluctuations in happiness occurs, but only for some X amount of time before reverting back to the original baseline (this process of reversion is known as hedonic adaptation). I’m not sure exactly where trauma and such play into this, but at least for satisfaction this is seen time and time again in human behavior. I am sure the author knows of this, but in the case that he doesn’t, he still came to the same conclusion through events in his life as some of the most influential psychologists in history. Such brilliant storytelling either way, Re: Zero deserves all the acclaim it receives.

Not a drunk idiot. That was a great video. Nice job
You are an Drunk Genius.
4:40 in and all I'm hearing is "I could fix her"
Ok I love her even more now
When I saw echidna in trailer I looked on google for some information and I find that she is interested in subarus death return anyway keep going bro do more vids I love it
Well she wants to live forever
Just random thought:
When will subaru complete lose it?
Abit random
I feel like he goes insane every couple episodes
@@Echidnut also do you have any idea when ch 80 for arc 6 is out?
@@brokenverdict9995 My guess is as good as yours. Tappei's definitely busy with Season 2, so whenever they start finalizing things, that's when he'll start writing again. It could be soon, or it could be in a couple months
@@Echidnut well we will just have to wait.
Nice vid anyways
Keep up the good work 😊
@@brokenverdict9995 Will do! Thanks for the support man :)
She is so enigmatic... and yes i understood everything you said.
Ok other videos don’t have much comedy but in the beginning, that dad one, was just awesome lol
I was watching it, also, drunk. For 100% sure he is right and all those words I can explain. Just give me some drink!
I just finished arc 4 BRUUUUH THE CHILLSSSSSSS WHEN SHE SAID IT
Your channel satisfies my greed
Whut now is January 24th what a coincidence so Happy Birthday Echidna 😁
re zeros characters are like fractals
they just keep getting more complex
What if she were to start from zero?, since she can use the witchfactor why not ask Daphne to eat some of her memories(I dont think even Daphne could eat it all without something similar to the 1st Van Astrea case with Roi)
Yeah if Daphne ate all that, something bad might happen to her. But even if she did, Echidna would likely feel the same way she does now. Even if she starts from zero, she's still unable to be satisfied
I think that's enough Mama Murphy.
Love must fade so that hate can takes its place.
Oh i thought this video how to get drunk with echidna's body fluid.
Give her a gaming PC with gigabit internet and she'll be set for at least another century
That thirst for knowledge reminds me of orochimaru
Please make more rezero videos
Long time no fucking see my friend
Donna has not overcomed depression, somehow the history has not told us yet. She repeadly says that and only beatrice knows why, in loving the days gone by beatrice she is still sufering about past relationships and that's why she understands toska's feelings.
love fades because of time....
For someone who possess all knowledge, I'm surprised that she doesn't know about the hedonic treadmill...
