I used to think my voice is damaged, and I use so many hydration stuff like nebulizer and moisturizer and but then I found it is because the support level does not match the intensity of the voice. Good technique and sufficient sleep is more important than those, they are just for special situations, but they are quite satisfying to use.
Yeah I would say technique is even more important. I remember drinking coffee while singing and it would be really hard at first, but technique helps so much and bad habits bother me less and less. You will see videos of people like John Mayer singing eating spicy food, so this is a very good point to think about. The truth is though, to maximize your voice you can't be ignoring the lifestyle changes. I am surprised to hear how much really goes into some of these people's voices. Not everyone has the same understanding, but people like Geoff Castellucci really give you an idea. He talks about inducing light trauma on purpose, and how his voice is lower the next day as a result, and he uses that in addition to countless tricks. Those acapella groups are unbelievable.
I think I have the same problem, how do I fix it? How do I match my support level with the intensity of my voice?
Saline is similar to what’s inside of the cells . If there is lowered concentration inside of the cells , the additional saline that’s been added goes inside the cells of the Vocal Tract ( osmosis ). Makes sense .
Singer here, just got one of these, can’t wait to try it. I’m currently in the middle of a musical and got a cold, so I’m excited to get it out and get better
Get better soon!
Couldn't agree more! Of all the medications, herbals, etc., recommended by my vocal therapy clinic, the nebulizer is one of the few things that has made the biggest difference, especially during cold season (another is diet of course). Thank you for the video!
This is so interesting. Saline solution on a nebuliser was recommended to me by my son's pediatrician in case of cough and sore throat. Instead of mixing that with any other weird and miraculous substance, until she could visit the kid, she always told me that going with saline solution is the best thing I can do. I'm not surprised that it's the same for singers' vocal health.
I moved from wet Oregon to DRY Utah five years ago and nebulizing has saved my voice! John Henny was the one who turned me on to this and I nebulize before singing religiously. Additionally, I am…well, let’s just say, no longer young. This helps with the aging voice as well. Can’t say enough about the benefits of nebulizing! Do it!!
So glad this is helping your voice! I with you on the aging voice - in fact, this whole aging thing is totally overrated :)
I absolutely agree! Would love it if you would do a podcast on tips for the aging voice. Including that it’s overrated bc a lot out there assumes the worst and it’s not true. Lots of us boomers out here still singing! @@JohnHennyVocalStudio
Thank you!
Great advice
never heard about this before, nice info
Hi John, I would LOVE to hear your reaction/analysis to Heart's performance of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center, while Led Zeppelin was being honored. I've seen other analyses, but after seeing your analysis of Whitney's I Have Nothing, I think you would bring more depth and breadth to the analysis.
After seeing you mention how Whitney interplayed with the orchestra, I thought of Heart's version of Stairway. No other analysis mentions interplaying with the orchestra, as you had in Whitney's video. I would find it hard to believe you have not listened to this version, but if you have not, it is a must listen. It is one of the most goose bump inducing musical performances I have witnessed.
Hey John, love the video! Any luck with other Saline solutions, or is the hydration formula the way to go?
You're an angel~ This is just what I needed to know & hear! I'm going to look for Vocal Mist brand now. I appreciate you. Have a blessed and beautiful day! ;o)
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve used my vocal mist for 4 years and swear by it. It’s also great when you are traveling.
I have a naturally dry throat will it help? I often sound tired even when I’m not
Is it enough 4ml in a day of sterile water 0.9% saline?
Just got one have a question do you have to pour the solution out after each use or can you use it for two days then do the cleaning of the device?
This is great - why is there no link or info about this - I hate to spend hours looking for it. How can you tell if there are vertical or horizontal screens?
Do you have any thoughts on the Omron MicroAir U100 nebuliser versus the Vocal Mist? Thank you!
great info
Glad it was helpful!
Can you provide the link to buy the nebulizer?
Does the salt in saline not damage vocal cords or irratate them?
Hey Dr. John, how long does the isotonic saline last on your vocal cord when you use the VocalMist
Hi John. We have a Swedish guy you must check out. Tommy Johansson!!! He doing covers of famous songs and kills them all =0) For example he has done...." Im still standing"..."Blinding lights"..."The show must go on"...."Phantom of the opera"...."Emerald"...." You raised me up"....but plz start with "Shes gone" ( Steelheart )....it will blow your mind =0)
How expensive is the complete kit? How often do you need to buy the solution?
hi john i might be wrong here but hearing this . it looks like this is what there using on the wishbus 107.5 youve have comented on ?
Sir a very interesting review I learned alot. Thank you for sharing. I have a question, you use their saline solution, cant I use my own saline solution? Water and salt. What is so special about theirs?
I wouldn't use homemade. It is VERY important that the solution be sterilized and with the right amount of saline. It's not expensive when purchased in bulk on Amazon.
Singer here, please how can i get this particular nebulizer/Vocal mist / saline solution? I really really need this.
I need to vocal lesson I want to make it practice
Hi thanks for the video , I couldnt agree enough ❤ quick question what you think about the viral vocal or voice 37 natural dropps on Amazon ?
It helps me open up my vocal chords and clear up the mucus and phlegm
Can u please help me to voice out my voice
Mei singing practice Karta hoon but others have problem on the room, sir koi aisaa helmet hai jis mei awaaz bahir Na Jaye . Like Voice defuser for head and mouth. Kuch istarahh .
Please tell me the name of that one.
Link to product?
Hi John...quick question. Someone recommended similar practice to me. They suggested 3% food grade Hydrogen peroxide. Which is better...that or the salene solution?? The person who recommended is a singer...many thanks John.
DO NOT inhale hydrogen peroxide! I don’t know how this got started but doctors are warning people against this.
Can this cause pneumonia or cause damage to the lungs in any way?
I just got a nebulizer for Christmas and I was wondering if I would be able to use other medical grade 0.9% saline solution or if it’s recommended to use the vocal mist solution. I got an off brand one which is totally fine, since I want to see if it works out before committing to a more expensive nebulizer, but I don’t want to do any damage to my voice and being a college student, the vocal mist brand solution can get a little expensive. Thanks!!
You can use the other solution.
My nebulizer is coming soon 🤞 let’s hope it helps my tech week voice (I’m in my high schools production of Anastasia)
Mask(nose & mouth) vs mouthpiece...
Which do u think is more effective for vocal cords??
Both work. I usually use the mouthpiece.
How often and how long before singing should I nebulize?
I use a nebulizer just before and during vocal practice. I would use about 10 to 15 mins before a performance.
What brand does he like
04:45 "..and this thing pumps out steam, you can see it, it's not steam!" 😉
😂😂
Is this product recommended as a treatment after stressful vocal use, or as a pre-treatment before singing/lecturing?
Before
Is there a downside to steaming your voice daily?
None that I know of, but be sure to keep your steamer or nebulizer clean.
Hi! I've gotten several different results when searching for this product. Do you have a link to the specific product shown in your video? Thanks!
Hey! You found it? Myvocalmist is the name.
So expensive 😔
There are less expensive versions on Amazon
I bought a VocalMist, did absolutely nothing to me. Very very disappointed! Plus it's expensive stuff for nothing.
Sorry to hear that.
@@JohnHennyVocalStudio Thank you. I'm more disappointed because I was desperate to find a way to calm my constantly stiff and tensed throat muscles. Stress is doing that a lot to me. With all the raving reviews about the VocalMist/nebulizers since a few years now, I thought I found the solution. But it does nothing, I don't feel anything after, not even a little moisturized, and it is not helping my voice in any way. I was using it 3 times a day or before I sing... so I don't understand the hype personally.
@@coloraturaMusicPerhaps you have more issues than just tenseness. A visit to an ENT might be in order.
@@IfYaGotEmSmokeEm True. But since it's about hydration, I don't understand that I don't feel more hydrated after using it if you know what I mean. Steam makes feel more hydrated immediately whether I am very tensed or not but the nebulizer thing doesn't do anything. It even makes me feel DRYER sometimes. So to me it sounds like a scam that just went popular because it looked "fancy".
@@coloraturaMusic you are exactly right because I also bought a vocal mist nebulizer and it did not work at all for me and I also think that it’s a scam
Um….the vocal most portable nebulizer!
